And you were probably a little intimidated. There are few giants like that in our industry. No question. Well talk about his life and career in a little while. We want to start on this wednesday morning with our top story, the ebola crisis. A Liberian National is in isolation in newark, new jersey, this morning as doctors wait for ebola results. Meantime, the cameraman working with nbc in liberia when he contracted the virus is preparing to head home. Nbc National Correspondent kate snow is at the hospital in omaha, where he was treated. Kate, good morning to you. Reporter good morning, matt. Ashoka mukpo got a clean bill of health after several tests showing there was no ebola left in his bloodstream. Later today, he will walk out of this hospital. Meantime, as you say, this morning, another new scare at the Newark Airport, this one involving a passenger from liberia. Another day, another worry. A sick passenger who landed at Newark Airport outside new york tuesday sent to a local hospital and isolated. Medical workers are evaluating his symptoms out of an abundance of caution. The Liberian National had traveled from liberia to brussels before flying in to the u. S. On flight 998, landing before 1 00 pm tuesday. Ashoka mukpo, the nbc freelance cameraman, is totally ebola free and no danger when he leaves the hospital today. In every day walks of life, interacting people at the movie theater, grocery store, he poses no risk. He is not infectious . Is he not infectious. Reporter minutes after receiving that good news, ashoka tweeted, ebola free and feeling so blessed. I fought and won with lots of help. It was, he said, a profound relief. Its going to take him a couple three weeks before he feels, hey, im back to normal. Reporter he tweeted he was still thinking about the two nurses from dallas and looking forward to the day they get the same news. Nina phams condition has improved. No word on amber vinson. Texas governor rick perry announced the hospital that treated Thomas Eric Duncan will no longer handle ebola cases in the state. Instead, theyre designating two ebola treatment facilities. Rival the most advanced units in the world. Reporter sales of the protective gear used in hospitals are through the roof. The most popular fullbodysuits are on a 12week backlog. And new rules from the department of Homeland Security kick in today. All passengers traveling from the west african nations dealing with ebola will now have to enter the u. S. Through one of five airports that have screening where temperatures and travel history are taken. Late word telling nbc news, the passenger, liberian who came into newark, likely does not have ebola. That is good news here, the latest from here in nebraska. Back to you, hoda, matt. Kate snow on the story for us. Thank you very much. The fbi is going through the online history of three colorado girls after they were stopped in germany. Investigators believe they were on a journey to join up with islamic militants in syria. Nbcs justice correspondent Pete Williams has latest on that. Good morning, pete. Reporter hoda, good morning. No release of names because these girls are all under 18 and no charges have been filed. But Officials Say this is an example of the system working, worried parents sounding the alarm, getting the fbi on the case. The fbi says if the parents of the three girls, ages 15, 16 and 17 had not spoken up, the teens probably would not have been stopped, detained over the weekend at the airport in frankfurt, germany. American officials believe they planned to travel on to syria and join up with isis or another group. We are very grateful to germany for their cooperation with us on this particular instance of some young folks who were traveling. Reporter their father reported them missing when they didnt come home from school on friday evening. The Sheriffs Office reports he discovered their passports were missing, too, along with 2,000 in cash. Alarmed, he called local authorities, who notified the fbi. Thats when officials discovered that the sisters and another girl, the daughter of parents from sudan, who also live in denver, left friday on a flight to chicago, then to frankfurt, and had tickets to fly on to istanbul in turkey. Notified by american authorities, german Airport Police stopped them in frankfurt and sent them home. Back in colorado, they told a sheriffs deputy they left for family reasons but refused to elaborate. Authorities are now checking their emails and internet histories to see if others were involved. And officials are also investigating whether one of the girls struck up a relationship with someone in syria she met online. The prospect that americans would be recruited by the slick propaganda pumped out by isis has been a prime National Security worry. Any time you have even one individual who seeks to join isis, you have the possibility that they will be trained at a high level, radicalized and then possibly returned to conduct an attack in the United States. Reporter u. S. Officials say they doubt any charges will be filed. Prosecuting minors is rare and complicated in the federal system. But Authorities Say they will keep a close eye on the three girls. It was legendary, andrea. Indeed, it was, matt, leading the Washington Posts historic coverage of watergate, leading to the resignation of richard nixon, events that influenced generations of journalists to follow. Ben bradlee, the hardcharging, swashbuckling, often profane editor who took on a president. Is it hard for a newspaper to go up against a popular president . Its my kind of hard. I like that. If youre right, it isnt hard. Reporter played in all the president s men by jason robards. When is somebody going to go on the record on this story . Reporter already famous when two young reporters, bob woodward and carl bernstein, took on a source they named deep throat. They kept his identity a secret for decades until the source, a highranking fbi official, was revealed by others. All that time, confiding only in bradlee. Nixons involved. Lives could be at stake. Theres wiretapping. This is going the distance. His question was, what the hell do we do now . Reporter the late publisher, katherine graham, didnt flinch, despite white house threats to ruin her and the paper. She also backed bradlee in publishing the pentagon papers, a secret history of the vietnam war, a landmark case they won against the Nixon White House in the supreme court. Bradlee, a boston brahmin, a world war ii veteran and his wife, sally, the Washington Post reporter, defined the washington couple for decades. This past year, president obama awarded bradlee the medal of freedom. He was, on balance, the greatest newspaper editor of postwar period. He was daring. He was willing to be dangerous. Larry king, great editor and friend of mine, ben bradlee of the Washington Post was 93. Courageous. Rest in peace, my friend. We got a statement in from our own tom brokaw. Just as there will not be another babe ruth, sinatra or hemingway, there will not be another bradlee. I miss him already. From bob woodward and carl bernstein, these men tied together in history forever. Ben was a true friend and a genius leader in journalism. He forever altered our business. We loved him deeply and he will never be forgotten or replaced in our lives. And, you know, you can talk about someones professional life and the impact they had in the work world. But for bradlee, he said his lifes work was a book he wrote in 2002 life work fathers and sons. You should read it, if you havent had an opportunity. It takes you past that historic career but inside his home, his family, which meant more than anything. A lot of people will be picking up that book. You should take that picture of him and put it up in newsrooms just to remind people how we should be. Youre right. An emotional hearing tied to those shocking claims of locker room hazing at a new jersey high school. Well hear from players standing up for their nowsuspended coaches.
