Sean wentz says since 2011, they have seen a 6 reduction in force. 2011 officers used force in nearly 1,500 incidents. Last year 504. Complaints are down, about 30 . Weve seen that the video overwhelmingly supports Police Officers. Not always but in the vast majority of cases. Do you track officers . One of the steps is the supervisor has to watch the videos from every use of force that happens. Not just the member but the others there as well. In the incidents last year 24 were not captured on camera. 20 were reprimanded by their supervisors. Four cases went further to the internal Affairs Division for investigation and displain. What is your expectation when it comes to officers and when they have their cameras on . What happens if they dont . If the officer has no prior history they will be dealt with informally. If theres a repet, it becomes a disciplinary action. Morris said hes seeing more officers turning off their cameras. We have footage of an officer looking at another officer and pointing to their chest saying lets have this conversation in a moment. Is that code . It is. Its an unwritten. What do you make that have . I can see why it may appear to be suspicious. Officers have to have conversations that shouldnt be recorded. The chief says officers are allowed to stop reporting when theyre talking tactics or strategy. Theres no purpose in parts of the criminal case. Why isnt it reasonable to have a private conversation without the body camera on . It may be reasonable. What do we demand when theyre working and on duty . The problem is it leaves space for interpretation. The chief says opd officers record and upload 12 terabyte of data every month, used as a study at stanford university. Analyzinging the interaction that can be used how officers are trained not just here but agencies nationwide. We are capturing information between Police Officers than weve ever captured or provide ed at any time in our history. Its difficult to believe were not being that transparent. Unlike some departments. A box isnt required to indicate whether they were rolling when they used force. The chief will consider adding that to track the information easier.
