Happening later, the Palo Alto School board is set to talk about controversial new Sex Education curriculum. Kris sanchez joins us to talk about why parents are so concerned about the program. Good morning, kris. Good morning. For parents, they say this is just much nife for seventh graders. They are pretty young going into seventh grade. But under california law, they have to get this sort of instruction. So the Palo Alto Unified School district is partners with health connected. According to their website, the middle School Program is ten hours of instruction over two weeks time. It includes gender roles, relationship, sexuality as well as reproductive health, including contraception and sexually transmitted diseases. Under californias Healthy Youth act, students have to get Sexual Health education once in middle school and again in high school. The courses have to cover the topics. According to the school board agenda, parents will have the opportunity to opt out of this if they see fit. And they will have access to all materials before their children do, but thats really one of the issues for parents. Health connected does not offer all their materials online because of proprietary reasons. So parents have to show up in person to look at one copy of that instruction curriculum. Thats one of the issues that will be discussed at the meeting tonight at 6 30 at the Palo Alto Unified School district. There are reports he was stopped last year in turkey trying to enter syria. The San Bernadino man accused of killing a australian tourist in San Francisco is expected in court later today. David morillo is expected to be arraigned on murder charges. Police say morillo got into a fight on friday evening with matthew bate outside of a hotel. Bate later died from his injuries. Life in prison, the sentence handed down to Antolin Garcia torres. The defense is expected to ask for a new trial because a judge recently overturned another murder conviction based on false evidence. Even if there is a new trial, Antolin Garcia torres will not face the same punishment. If there was a new trial, it would only be for life without the possibility of parole. The Death Penalty could not be reinstated since the jury did speak today and said this was not a death case. So he will never face the death penaltien if hes given a new trial. Clark says there is a new trial, it would likely be held another county given all the Media Coverage of the case. The hearing to discuss a new trial is expected in accept. Later today, a Progress Report on san mateos planned sewer rate hike. The city is seeking to raise money for capital improvements. That has a backup forming just past the skyway off the carquinez bridge, continuing to build off the highway before coming into the area. Oakland Police Officers, according to one new study, reportedly speak less respectfully to black citizens during traffic stops. Stanford researchers looked at body cam footage of nearly 1,000 traffic stops. The east bay times reports the language used by officers showed differing levels of respect and formality depending upon the race and age of the driver. That study also found in general that officers spoke fairly respectfully to all people. A south bay family is grieving this morning after a freak accident involving a golf cart. Debra bed rtd from san jose died outside of sacramento. Chp said she was a passenger in a golf cart when the driver turned sharply, throwing her from the cart and onto the wine glass that she had been holding, cutting her badly. Thats where we start out there, but looking from pleasanton, its all clear, and our temperatures have been cool as well. Were in the low to mid 50s and at 56 degrees in oakland and san jose. And morgan hill now at 50 degrees. Looking at some patchy fog along the coast and also for parts of the north bay as well. Were seeing the visibility at Half Moon Bay now down to three miles and also from santa cruz and coming through the mountain gaps over to san martin and gilroy, seeing some patchy fog there as well. As we go through today, all of that clears out and then well see the temperatures reaching into the low 60s or rather low 80s for gilroy and for parts of the east bay. We have anywhere from 84 degrees in danville to 68 degrees in oakland. Also 68 in san mateo. 65 in the Mission District today. And 78 degrees in novato. As youre making plans for the day, maybe youre heading out to the as game, they won last night. Our temperatures will be in the low 60s and dropping back to the upper 50s. Make sure youre wearing a nice warm sweater. The rest of the week, a chance of rain in the forecast. Yeah, pretty late in the season, but well see the highest chance for the north bay. Thats thursday into early friday morning before that system moves on. We may have the possibility of getting at least a tenth of an inch of rain for the north bay, and then it kind of fizzles out, which is typical this time of year. We may see light showers between thursday night and friday. And then well have a dry weekend with high temperatures in the 60s for San Francisco. Inland areas will have some warm weather today and tomorrow. Cooler down the rest of the week, and the weekend is looking really. Heading over to mike now, whats happening as you head out on the roads. Overall, things looking really good. A gradual build, but two key spots were tracking. Key spots where we typically see the build, north 87 through san jose. This crash still blocks the two left lanes, and we see a slow drive just as you make the split from 85 north through the area, so northbound 17, you might want to go past the interchange, take it back up toward 280 if you can, if youre working west of downtown. Meanwhile, the other issue were watching is the upper east shore freeway. Showing a build right now. We should see some recovery. The earlier crash just got cleared from lanes seconds before i made wi my way to the studio for the report. It will be our more gradual recovery because of the voolume. Were try to save you 25 minutes, driving from vallejo to San Francisco, instead of using the sloesest of all three routes, almost two hours, the blue one, the purple route across the buniche bridge saves you 25 minutes, even with the slow drive out of vallejo, that saves you about ten minutes as well. Well show you the mugshot of almena. Both men were arrested yesterday morning outside of alameda county. Alameda arrested in lake county, and harris was in Los Angeles County. This is after an exhaustive sixmonth investigation, the d. A. Announced both men Face Criminal Charges in connection with the ghost ship fire which includes 36 counts of involuntary man sloter for the 36 people who died in december in the party where the warehouse went up in flames. The d. Amp also adding the two men knowingly created a fire trap, an inadequate space for folks to eskwap. If convicted, they could face up to 39 years in state prison. We got a chance to speak to the mother of one of the victims who passed away inside the warehouse. She hopes justice will be served. You feel like youre in this state of limbo waiting to hear something. And it feels better to know thats movement going on. Almenas bail was set at 1 million, and hes scheduled to appear in courtthursday. As for harrison, hes scheduled to be brought up here by sheriffs deputies at some point later this week. They were literally trying to your vote, according to a leaked document from the National Security agency. Published by the online news website the intercept. We should see some recovery and see the times recovering, but we had traffic shifting, folks avoiding that and taking highway 17 to 280 or continuing on 85, also using 101 as an alternate, so those are all causing the Ripple Effect. Well continue to see traffic shift through san jose, and it may flow to the rest of silicon valley. Although traffic is relatively light. Heres the approach to the bay bridge. The slowest drive right now across the dumbarton bridge. The dumbarton bridge saw some crash a saw over on the peninsula side, and that may be affecting the overall commute. For sunday, for the coast, in the mid 60s and mid 70s for the inland valleys. And its going to be mostly sunny. Well have a sand sculpture contest happening in alameda. Thats saturday. It will be cool to start, but with all that sunshine, well see the high temperatures reaching into the upper 60s, maybe one of many cool events to check out this weekend. If youre planning to head to napa valley, it will be in the mid 70s. For both friday and saturday. Sunday, a little bit warmer, up to 82 degrees but still comfortable. This is a live look at squaw valley as the sun rises, there will be a chance of rainoon friday, and high temperatures reaching the low 50s to upper 50s by the end of the weekend. Day two of the bill cosby Sexual Assault trial. Yesterday, one of the comedians accusers delivered dramatic testimony. She claimed she was drugged by cosby and molested in a Los Angeles Hotel room in 1996. But during crossexamination, experts say the witness struggled with her memories and with the consistency of her testimony. Also seeing the sunshine in the south bay with the temperature of 55 degrees. And then look at the low visibility as we get a look towards the Golden Gate Bridge and also from tiburon. We see that our temperatures in the upper 40s to low 50s. And some clouds there. But then as we go today, were going to see the sunshine breaking out, and the peninsula will see a high of 75. 85 for the trivalley. Still pretty warm there. And it will be windy again in San Francisco today with a high of 65. So youre looking out the window and youre getting ready for the day. Make sure you want to wear some short sleeves and shorts today. Something nice and comfortable, especially for the inland valleys where the temperatures will be heating up once again. Now, as we go through the forecast, we talked about this just briefly, the chance of rain in the forecast. Out ahead of a cold front, this will bring in some showers, especially for the north bay. Between thursday night and early friday morning, but then as it hits the hills and parts of the north bay, it will kind of fizzle out. Well see if we can make it to the south bay with some of the light showers expected to move in, and wherever you are, i always appreciate you snapping a photo and sending it to me. Looking at this forecast, the only chance that we wont have of seeing the sun will be thursday evening into early friday with that system moving in. After that, well see some more dry weather and also some more comfortable temperatures for getting out and about around the bay area. And mike, youre saying the crashes are clearing out now . Yeah, just in time. Just in time for the commute to really start to build. I know its tuesday and almost 7 00, its 6 52, folks. Just starting to see the build. We tend to see that in summer months. Looking at the south bay, the east bay, and the upper east shore freeway. The upper east shore had that crash that cleared a while back, just as we saw more traffic off the carquinez bridge. Folks using an alternate, so there may be more folks as the commute builds. The south bay, 87 and 101 both had crashes around the same latitude. They both cleared. Some recovery, and more traffic for 85. Lets look at the shift in the south bay on our system. Waze says if you use this, drive from Almaden Valley up to Mountain View and sunnyvale, 85 will be about as fast as it will be for 87. Recovering through downtown, and also you can avoid 101 because thats the slowest stretch coming up past the airport for the earlier crashes.
