Federal investigators are trying to figure out what cause third degree deadly plane crash near the Sonoma Skypark airport. The pilot was killed and three people on board were injured. Reporter good morning to you, sam and laura. On board the plane, pilot and two children and adult woman taking off just before 1 00 yesterday afternoon from the Sonoma Skypark here behind me. Their plane almost immediately in distress. Witness we spoke with said that the small single engine sr22 ascended to around 75 feet. The engine sputtered an cut out twice before the plane crashed in the field about 1,000 feet from the airport. You can see in the video from sky ranger, the pilot deployed an emergency parachute to slow the planes descent a. Number of people witnessing the crash ran to the site the try to help the family. When i got there, there was a little hand out of the back window so i thought, oh my gosh, somebodys alive in there. Lets see what we can do. Reporter the Good Samaritans were able to pry the boy and girl out of the plane. Both were air lifted to oakland childrens hospitals and are being treated for seriously injuries. The woman also badly hurt and being treated at a local hospital here in sonoma. The father, however, did not survive the crash. The Sheriffs Office has identified him as bill goldman, a 38yearold assistant professor in International Studies at usf. The university issued a statement offering condolences and prayers for his wife sarah and their children, george and marie. Sf gate is reporting that goldman was the grandson of the late richard and ro da goldman, two wellknown philanthropists in San Francisco.
