Reporter youre looking at a commuting conightmare, bart has closed the track due to an electrical problem on the track that has taken out two dozen cars today. Here is the bart spokesperson. Something is happening that is sending a surge and voltage to only certain cars and it is damaging a piece of the equipment. And at this point we cannot allow for any other cars to be damaged. Reporter it is similar to a problem two years ago, engineers are still looking for the cause of that problem. Meanwhile, they installed a bus bridge, thus far the lines have not been too long, and customers are very philosophical. Whose fault is it . I mean, it happens. Reporter youre stuck in it . Reporter rodriguez is the grandfather of the 6yearold boy who police say was severely injured by this man, 29yearold Daniel Morris in a quiet Castro Valley neighborhood march 7th. According to police, he was at the wheel of this ford when it struck the boy and his older brother as they walked on the sidewalk just steps from their home. They were walking to school, and he said he found an earth worm. Reporter they were with their grandmother, rodriguez wife, when the car struck the two brothers, pinning the younger one against a pole. She asked the driver for help, he came out, looked at him, got something from the car and ran off. Reporter nine days later, Daniel Morris was arrested in the parking lot of this hayward motel. At 1 00 a. M. , the suspect was arrested, mr. Daniel morris, who is our prime suspect in the hitandrun that occurred on march 7th that severely injured a 6yearold boy. Reporter the fusion was just one of the cars stolen. Several men broke into the key drop box and drove away five cars over a 90minute period. Rodriguez young grandson is still in the hospital, having lost his left leg below the knee. Up until this date they had five operations and possibly two more. I know they have good doctors. Reporter it all started when chp officer keith meter attended a bone marrow registry drive like this one. You move this swab around for ten seconds. Reporter meter found out he was a match for an 8yearold girl who needed a bone marrow transplant. When i got called i started the process and i found out that my blood counts were low at the time. And i ignored the fact that they told me to go to the doctor because i felt fine. Reporter meter was the picture of health, always athletic he helped the chp win the bakers Law Enforcement run more than once. But more testing revealed officer meter had cancer and now he was the one who needed bone marrow. There is no cure for the one i have, the only cure is a bone marrow transplant. Reporter hearing his story inspired his fellow officers to work to find a match for him or for someone else. It is definitely a sense of family. And so you take care of one another like family. Reporter and what better way to save a fellow officers life. It hit close to home, it made me think it could possibly be me or close to me. Reporter the testing may make you feel silly, but if they match, the procedure is no joke. When you wake up you will experience lower back pain. Reporter a small price, officers say.
