Exactly what took place. Horrible accident. A San Mateo County sheriffs car accidentally hit a pedestrian in san bruno sending that woman to the hospital. Happened near the intersection of san mateo and san bruno avenues just before 11 a. M. Witnesses say the sheriffs vehicle was making a left turn when it hit the woman who was in the crosswalk. The gas station owner on the corner said he heard it all happen. Had a big impact. And looked up and the lady was on the ground. Surveillance video captured the impact. Difficult to see but look past the white car at the gas pump. That is the sheriffs car turning left at the intersection. The womans condition is not yet known. Tonight Palo Alto Police have surround ed a house on else nor drive where a man is barricaded inside. The standoff now in its third hour has a twist. Kpix 5s len ramirez is live with how this all unfolded. This was apparently a burglary in progress that was interrupted by Palo Alto Police. You can see the perimeter here which is on north california avenue. The burglary suspect was originally seen in the backyard of a home in the 900 block of oregon avenue. He ran from officers according to police and apparently tried to hide out in another house in the 900 block of elsinore drive. Thats where police say were home at the time. At about 2 30 p. M. The suspect entered the residence occupied by a woman in her and her caregiver. Her caregiver immediately exited the house and the helderly woman was asleep. She got up and immediately exited. The suspect is described as a hispanic man in his 20s with a blue or black hoodie. Police dont think the suspect was armed at the time but is surrounded by heavily armed s. W. A. T. Officers from the Palo Alto Police department. Residents who let who live in the area are being asked to shelter in place lock your doors and windows and just stay put. Dont go in or out of the area. There are several roads in this area that have been blocked off by police while this standoff continues into its third hour. A lawsuit over a Police Shooting in San Francisco made its way to the Supreme Court today. Justices heard arguments about a 2008 incident where officers shot a 60yearold mentally ill woman. She had schizophrenia and had threatened the Police Officer with a knife. Police went in to her home, opened fire during that confrontation. She did survive and sued the city. The issue at hand whether cops need to take special precautions when dealing with with a mentally ill violent suspect. Because they knew that she was mentally impaired knew that she was in a room that she was isolated from other people, could not escape, and even though she had threatened them, they did not need to enter that room and create a confrontation. City leaders told the Supreme Court that having a separate policy for unpredictable mentally ill suspects can make these situations even more dangerous. The Supreme Court could issue a ruling by june. Three east bay teenagers are behind bars in connection with a shooting close to their high school campus. It happened at El Cerrito High School last friday. Three students, two 16yearolds and a 17yearold are accused of targeting a 19yearold man. The victim survived the shooting. The three suspects are booked on attempted murder and conspiracy. A woman who died after a cliff collapsed near point rays has been identified. 58yearold San Francisco resident nancy blum was killed in the rock slide on saturday. She had been hiking in the area of arc rock with one other person when the cliff gave way. They both fell about 70 feet. She was pronounced dead. The other hiker was airlifted a hospital. Park Officials Say they posted warning signs last week that the end of the trail was dangerous. A young hiker missing in yosemite for two days has been found alive but hurt. 20yearold michael dahl disappeared saturday while hiking with friends near lower yosemite falls. Park visitors spotted him this morning in that same area. He was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries but at this point its still unclear exactly what happened to him. Police in charlottesville say theres no evidence that a rape took place the conclusion of a fivemonth investigation. The alleged attack was described in graphic detail in Rolling Stone magazine. A woman identified only as jackie said she was raped at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity in 2012. Police say is there was too many discrepancies in her story. Rolling stone admits it made mistakes in that article. Robert durst was in a new orleans courtroom with his hands shackled to his sides and padded cuffs. The judge said the 71yearold is a flight risk and a danger to others. Hes also on suicide watch. Durst was arrested in a new Orleans Hotel earlier this month on weapons charges and on an l. A. County warrant accusing him of murder. We were able to get a lot of information that hadnt been available to us. Durst is accused of killing his friend susan berman in Beverly Hills 15 years ago. Durst claims he had nothing to do with bermans death or the disappearance of his first wife. He says science doesnt back up what he called alarmist views on global warning. A double standard for double parking. Churchgoers at one bay area parish have been break the rules for years. Why officers say its easier to offer forgiveness than fines. On sundays the city looks the other way when churchgoers park along the median on delores street. The churchgoers are a little annoyed by another group trying to take advantage of that little perk. A scammer posing as a sergeant has been calling people and threatening to arrest them on bogus warrants. Hes been able to dupe at least four people in to paying hundreds of dollars to get out of it. You get a suspicious call, police want to hear from you. A new proposal to clear the air in the bay area may have potential home sellers seeing red. Homes with wood burning fireplaces will not be able to be sold or rented unless theyre retrofitted with cleaner devices such as gas fireplaces and that fix can cost thousands as much as 3,000. Bay Area Management district wants to phase out fireplaces to reduce public exposure to the smoke.
