Investigators concluded what went wrong last november when the coach careened out of control for several blocks. They say it was operator error. Joe vazquez says the driver defiantly disagrees. Joe. [ pause ] [ no audio ] there was a mechanical problem on the bus. And im very disappointed that the outcome of sfpd. Reporter Kenneth Malvar gave a statement at his lawyers office. He is in a wheelchair with back and leg injuries after the november crash at union square. Malvar was driving a double decker city sightseeing bus when he swears the brakes went out. The runaway bus hit 14 cars and injured 19 people before it smashed into some scaffolding. Malvar says he pumped the brakes and the accelerator several times to try to get them to work. He said they were sloppy and nonresponsive, mechanical failure. But when San Francisco police announced the results of their investigation this morning, they laid the blame on the driver saying he didnt brake. Surveillance video shows that his brake lights never lit up. If he did step on the brake which we believe he did not we definitely have proof to show he did step on the throttle. Thats why we believe he apparently stepped on the wrong pedal. So now its going to be left upon me that it was driver error. But i was there like i said and there was a mechanical problem. The brother died in the blast at the subway station. A laptop found in the trash is believed to contain ibrahims will in which he says he is hunted and no longer safe.
