He lived in fort pierce, about 50 miles southeast of orlando. One by one, the bodies of the victims were hauled away from the pulse nightclub sunday night earlier, anxious family members sobbed adams they learned the faith of their loved ones. Police say 29yearold omar mateen, armed with an ar15 Assault Rifle and a handgun opened fire in the crowded gay club around 2 00 a. M. Sunday morning. There were bodies, people that were wounded. Just to get them out of the way. Probably the worst fear i ever felt in my entire life. Reporter the fbi is investigating the accident as an act of terrorism, after mateen went into a Club Bathroom and called 911 to pledge his acollegance to isis before he started shooting. The fbi first became aware of mateen in 2013, when he made inflammatory comments to co worker us, ledging possible terrorist ties. The fbi looked at him again in 2014, to investigate potential ties to an american sue is side bomber in syria. The agency said it closed both investigations because mateen did not pose a threat at the time. Reporter the bureau of alcohol, tobacco, and firearms said mateen legally bought the guns. He purchased two fire participates, a handgun and long gun within the last few days. Reporter his exwife received the left her marriage after only 4 month. He was mentally unstable and mentally ill. Reporter authorities will release the names of more victims today. And dozens gathered at the Defrank Center for a vigil in san jose yesterday. They came to send thoughts and prayers to families of the shooting victims. People at the vigil said they were there in shock, but theyre there to morn in solidarity. And thousands gathered at harvey milk plaza. Some 60 the mourners booed mayor ed lee when he spoke. Many were shocked that such a violent act could still happen after all their community has been through. Flags will fly at halftime across the country today. There were some rumors that were spread around that there were possibly more are shooters, but Orlando Police did confirm this morning no thats not the case. And we know that a number of the victims, moist of the victims, have been identified, but not all of the families have been notified. How many families have been notified at this point . Reporter the last number we got from authorities was that they had identified 48 of the 49 victims. We had that number 50 earlier. 50 total victims, but that includes the shooter. So were looking at 49. Authorities say they have identified 48, and are working on notifying all of those families. When i checked my phone just a few minutes ago and looked at that heartbreaking list of all of those names, i saw 26, and so they are still working to get in touch with families of about 20 other victims before they publicly release those names. It has to be a painstaking process in order to do that. Can you just let us know where the investigation sits right is now we can see behind you, the police tape is still up, and we the Law Enforcement vehicles are behind you. Whats going on there .
