Recently city leaders declared a state of emergency making overtime mandatory and putting several dozen officers who dont usually work patrol back on the streets to cover the area. Now we are learning just how much overtime they are actually working. A new report says that they are working eight extra hours a week every week all year. The normal days where would you have a couple of days off, its not happening anymore. You have maybe a day off in between. Reporter all right. Get this. Just for some perspective, the audit says that sjpd officers are working 450 overtime hours every year compared to los angeles and San Francisco who work about 100 hours every, single year and theyre much bigger departments. Now, if you remember, kpix 5 uncovered last month that officers were actually sleeping in rvs in a parking lot near sjpd just to get some rest between their mandatory overtime shifts and their regular shifts. Now, recently the city declared a state of emergency to make overtime mandatory and to put officers who dont usually work patrol, dozens of them, on the streets to cover the area. Now were learning just how much overtime they are working. According to a new audit, they are working eight extra hours a week every, single week all year long. The pattern that we saw is in a people are using sick is that people are using sick leave to get a day off work. Its inappropriate but they need a day off. They work until they are completely exhausted, and then they melted down. Its either get sick or so tired that they have to call in sick in order to get some sleep. Reporter and just for some perspective here, the audit says that sjpd officers are working 450 overtime hours every, single year. Now compare that to los angeles and San Francisco<\/a>, much bigger departments, they are working 100 hours of overtime a year. The mayor is pushing voters to push measure f as a solution this november. That would restore benefits for these officers as well as benefits for any other city worker who left and wants to return. Not causing too many delays which is great. But here are some delays also on the nimitz freeway coming in both directions looking good right now 238 to the maze will take you about 18 minutes. Heres the delays i was talking about on 880 slow southbound in hayward if you are heading to the san mateo bridge. Heres a look at that slow commute. Look at that. Lots of brake lights. You can see 880 to 101 westbound will take you up to 20 to 25 minutes. Thats a look at traffic. Roberta, youre busy over there today. Very busy because we are tracking Hurricane Matthew<\/a>. It has now made landfall as a category 4 hurricane with winds up to 145 Miles Per Hour<\/a>. Keep in mind on a scale of one to five, with five being the most deadly and dangerous and catastrophic of hurricanes this is a four. And haiti has not seen anything like this since 1964, with hurricane cleo. Now this is the projected path. Now that its moved on shower the southwest and western portion of haiti, thats the coastal area of tiburon, we have the Coastal Range<\/a> here and we are anticipating landslides. This category 4 hurricane will continue its jog into cuba making landfall and across the bahamas with the same kind of intensity and force. If everything falls into play, as the path suggests, we have hurricane watches in effect for florida with 10 inches of rain anticipated by the end of the workweek. We do anticipate subtle changes over the next couple of days. So well be very mindful on monitoring Hurricane Matthew<\/a>s progression.
