What exactly is that new sculpture on the embarcadero . Its called soma and those two squiggly metal pieces, well those are neurons. So its supposed to represent the cells that are in your brain. Its supposed to be a representation on a very large scale of the very very tiny, tiny events that take place that create everything that humans experience. Reporter soma was first built five years ago by the artists in San Francisco called the flaming lotus girls famous for their fiery burning man statues. Its not flaming like most of your work. Explain that to me. At burning man it was flaming. Oh, yeah. Very much so. Part of the thing about doing public art for the masses is that you know you have to make a few changes from the original design so that people dont hurt themselves. It did break our heart a little bit to take off the fire pieces but its still a beautiful piece. Its supposed to make you and what does it do . Do i like it . Do i not like it . Like what about it do i like . Reporter they better like it. They better like it. Well, what do you think . What the heck . Theyve got so much room there. What the heck . You never know. Its too early right. Too early. Thats right. All right. Lets go out live and show you whats going on. Unfortunately a couple of accidents so far and they both happened at the same time. This fatal accident bay point, bailey road closed between concord boulevard and west leland. Thats a solo car accident but still both directions of bailey road closed and the commute that. Again i would avoid that. They dont have an estimated time when they can reopen that stretch of road for us. In the meantime better news in sunnyvale. This fatal accident is involving a motorcycle and again it happened a half hour before that one out in the east bay. Northbound 101 at lawrence expressway. All lanes are finally reopened and were actually seeing quite an improvement on 101 now coming from san jose. Theres actually no longer a delay. And you just missed it the lanes changed and they opened another southbound lane opened in the commute direction getting into San Francisco. So now you got four of them. Four southbound lanes open heading on to doyle drive. Northbound looks okay. As well if youre leaving San Francisco. Bay bridge toll plaza, clear. No longer seeing the delays in the cash lanes. It looks good all across the span. The nimitz also cleared the overnight roadwork. A lot of it northbound and southbound. But anyway everything is gone now. 15 minutes in both directions from 238 and the maze and b. A. R. T. Is also on time. Remember kcbs when you hit the road. 106. 9 fm and 7 40 a. M. Thats the latest from here in the kcbs traffic center. Lawrence another wild day in weather. Really is. Boy dont get this everyday in the bay area. Weve got some thunderstorms rolling in right now. You may have heard that rumble and seen the lightning outside and hidef Doppler Radar is tracking it right now. You can see its making its way in along the coastline. And were seeing some heavy downpours with these cells moving on through. A little subtropical moisture sliding into the bay area just enough to touch off some of thunderstorms right now. And some very heavy downpours. In for a closer look now and you can see the heavy rainfall into south San Francisco. Into San Francisco proper as well. And then sliding now into the north bay in toward richmond and got a pretty good cell now just making its way in through concord and this will continue through the Morning Hours. And then really begin to taper off. But dont be surprised you might see a little lightning out there early on today. Then by the afternoon, that will quiet down. It will become a mixture of clouds and sunshine and then more sunshine and less muggy conditions as we round out the week. But right now youre seeing lot of this moisture just being drawn up out of the south moving into the bay area. Thats that subtropical tap and touching off the storms this morning. Thunderstorms this morning. Around the state 80s and 90s in the Central Valley and watch out in the high country. You could see a few more thunderstorms in lake tahoe and a few showers in towards the month way bay this morning. Around the bay area though as we look to the afternoon a couple of passing clouds throughout the day today. But it looks like things settling down the rain will come through this morning. And then taper off. Temperatures today going to be mild. 70s and 80s in the south bay and 60s along the coastline. 70s a few 80s inland. And then inside the bay youll see 60s and some 70s. But boy, this is an interesting way to start out the day today. Some thunderstorms early on then i think things settle down. Wednesday and thursday, looks like things calm down and by the way guys one bolt of lightning . Five times hotter than the surface of the sun. At 55,000 degrees.
