Happening today, a lab company will test the mold that forced the San Jose Fire Department to close a fire station. The equipment has been cleared out from station 16. That will give way to showers later in the day. We are starting out with numbers chilly in concord, in San Francisco 55 degrees. In san jose just 46. Afternoon highs we are looking for them to only top out in the low 60s as we get some showers moving into the bay area midday today. And then some strong winds behind that so heres what were expecting first for showers to spread south beginning in the north bay of course and then over the central bay by early afternoon, blustery winds behind this. Christmas day looks good. But today, carry an umbrella. Well have a look at the mountains in the forecast up there in a few minutes. First lets get the latest. Heres frank and michelle. Right now a popular trail in San Francisco is closed because of a slide that took out a couple of big trees and things could get worse. Kpix 5s anne makovec is at lands end this morning where the trail is likely to be closed through the weekend. Anne. Reporter it is misty here right now and we are expecting a little bit of rain later on today which is not good news for this section of coastal trails here behind me at lands end. There is already a 200foot landslide where a 15foot section of the path has caved in. Two 60foot cypress trees came down, as well. The slide started monday at this popular tourist spot near the Navy Memorial parking lot. So park rangers put up barricades and yellow tape but we saw several bicyclists and hikers climb over the barricade. Im a big boy. I can figure out whats safe and whats not. Thats not so bad. Its a small landslide. And it should be circled with tape, but the trail should be open to the public to walk. Reporter yeah. Park rangers are concerned the landslide could slip further toppling trees across the trail especially with the more rain were expecting. We are going to hear from a geologist coming up in the next halfhour. In the meantime, park rangers are trying to figure out what they are going to do next. Federal workers who will do repairs are off for christmas so the trail is likely to be closed through the weekend. New this morning, a Missouri Police officer shot and killed a man overnight a few miles from ferguson. Police say officers responded to a burglary call at a gas station when one of two suspects pulled a gun out. He was shot three times. Other suspect got away. A woman says the victim is her 18yearold some. Police released some Surveillance Video showing the suspect pulling that gun. Former president george h. W. Bush number 41 is in the hospital. A Spokesman Says mr. Bush was experiencing shortness of breath yesterday evening and was taken to the hospital in houston as a precaution. Mr. Bush now is 90 years old and was hospitalized two years ago with bronchitis. Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco getting ready to serve up one big Christmas Eve lunch. 3,000 people are expected to have prime rib for lunch thanks to glide Family Services in San Francisco. The woman banging on the window claimed to be a cop flashes a badge from a senior care facility. When shiu didnt get what she wanted [ screaming ] i can go back and kind of laugh about it because it was crazy but in the moment, absolutely terrifying. Reporter the two women say the drama began when the driver tailgated and cut them off on i 880 in Placer County on saturday. I flipped her off. Reporter she says she regrets that move. [ screaming ] reporter the wild rampage ended when the girls drove to an awaiting chp officer. 50yearold dierdre orozco of santa clara pleaded not guilty to charges of assault, reckless driving and false imprisonment. Turns out, she struck before. She was in cuffs just last week for felony hilt run. Im not surprised that she is in jail at all. Reporter her own landlord says she lived in this home with a man and her two children about three years ago before he had to evict her. She has a temper. You know, i do my job, my job is to collect my rents and you dont pay the rent you dont have the right to live in the place. Reporter orozco is a bail bonds agent in san jose. According to records. All this happened just one day after orozco got out of jail after a similar incident in roseville just last week. Today emergency workers in mississippi plan today to survey the damage from storms that hammered the south. Yesterdays weather is blamed for the deaths of at least four people. Another 50 people are being treated for injuries. The storm also flipped over cars and knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses. Like a third world around here. Businesses and homes sustained damage. Rough weather is expected today in much of the eastern half of the United States making flight delays likely for those christmas travelers. It is expected to reopen in time for the monday morning commute on the is itth. They will be shutting down the bridge to install a movable median barrier there.
