Put out a distress call today in bad weather. Rescue crews are on the way to help. Two new deaths reported this morning regarding a ferry fire. Two sailors on an albanian tugboat were killed while securing the ferry that burned. 10 deaths were reported of ferry passengers. 427 others rescued many by helicopter. Rescuers still searching for more possible victims right now. A man is dead and a woman was injured after a shooting in berkeley. We have a live picture right now of the investigation. This is why the National Weather service has issued a wind advisory in effect today from high noon until wednesday at lunchtime winds increasing to 30 Miles Per Hour gusts to 45 highest elevations including the Coastal Range up to 60mile perhour gusts at times. Were here at the riverwalk apartments at 1510 bascomb avenue the latest scene in the string of five car fires that hit san jose overnight over two weeks. This is significant because it has put the most number of lives at risk. This is at the riverwalk apartments at 1510 bascomb avenue. If you look over there off in the distance, you will see part of the Apartment Building has melted from the heat of the fire. If you look on the ground, you will see a lot of glass. We are being told that the arsonist broke the window of a second vehicle here that it was not successful starting a second fire in the active location. It shows you how much the flames would be near the building how much residents would be in danger. It starts with the van fire from where we are right now. This is at 2105 bascomb in campbell. This photo was taken by the Santa Clara CountyFire Department around 10 p. M. And then two hours later, this happened. This is cell phone video of the fire around midnight at 1550 bascomb avenue. Literally right next to the ebay campus. The gray volkswagen was a total loss. Sjpd has since towed it away and then at 2 30 this morning a block away a toyota was set on fire right where were standing now at the riverwalk apartments. It looks like the gas tank may have been targeted. The Apartment Building did have surveillance cameras that captured it on video. All told, there were three fires this morning starting at 10 p. M. That is a total of 6 fires spanning two weeks. San jose Police Investigators have quite a case on their hands. Live in san jose, kiet do, kpix 5. 16 cal fire workers are on leave after an investigation into a sex tape that could not be found. Investigators were looking into a report of a video that supposedly showed firefighters having sex with prostitutes on fire trucks. Although the video was never located, investigators say they did discover some other unrelated violations. Right now its too early to determine the next steps well take. We do know in their initial information to us there are violations made by these 16 employees. Cal fire wont explain the violations. Most of the suspended employees are current or former fire academy instructors. A Bank Robbery Suspect handed over to the police by his own father. The 20yearold suspect arrested and charged with robbing a Wells Fargo Bank in san mateo just last week. When police put out these photos, his father recognized him. He says he was worried about his sons safety. Any parent that would be a very difficult decision to have to make being a parent. But its basically weighing whats best for the totality of circumstances and ultimately whats best for the child in this case. The suspect actually lives across the street from the bank he is accused of robbing. Tomorrow is the end of the line for the drakes bay oyster company. Owners will vacate a 2500acre estuary in the north bay where oysters have been farmed for more than 50 years. This follows a long and ultimately losing battle with federal and state agencies. The owners had hoped to compel the feds to renew a 40year lease. But the final blow came last june when the Supreme Court refused to hear the case. Congressman Michael Grimm of new york is resigning from office. The republican pleaded guilty to tax evasion last week after retiring from the fbi back in 2007. Grimm invested in a small manhattan restaurant. He is accused of under reporting more than a Million Dollars in wages to avoid paying taxes. He faces up to 30 months in jail but wont be sentenced until june. He will resign effective friday. Chevron has agreed to let Contra Costa CountyHealth Officials look into a flaring incident at the richmond refinery. It happened earlier this month. The flaring was used to depressurize and shut down a unit. Chevron says there was no danger to the public. Look at the current wind speeds around the bay area now. Kind of flat in san jose. Towards the north bay 18mile perhour winds in fairfield. And in santa rosa those northerly winds at 13 Miles Per Hour coupled up with an air temperature of 39 feels like 31 degrees currently. We have a wind advisory in effect from today all the way through tomorrow. This ought to warm us up. A nasa telescope is giving us a cool new look at the sun. These are high energy xrays. The telescope can be pointed directly at the sun without damage to the sensors. It will look beyond the solar system to snap images of black holes. Police are trying to figure out why two men stole a Newspaper Delivery truck and led police on a wild chase through three counties. Officers chased the hijackers down the peninsula yesterday across the san mateo bridge and ended up in san leandro. Cate caugiran picks up the story from there. They were driving pretty erratically and put a lot of lives in danger today. Reporter two suspects are in jail and investigators trying to figure out their motive behind taking the San Francisco chronicle truck. He swerved towards our motor officers and attempted to strike one of our motorcycle officers. He was not injured. Reporter this chase started in San Francisco and as the two tried to get away, they rammed the truck into a Police Officers car. Then the suspects went east to san leandro. In the middle of the chase a witness said the driver of the chronicle truck hit this trash can and at some point, the other suspect who was a passenger in the truck got out, jumped on a bike and tried to get away. That didnt work. Police caught him. The driver continued on and ditched the truck in this cul desac near chabot park. Thats when he jumped the fence and tried to hide in a creek. It doesnt surprise me this would be a good place to get away if you were going to try and hide. Reporter but this neighbor helped stop it after he pointed officers in the right direction. I was like, turn, turn, turn Reporter Police surrounded the area. Saw the guns drawn. Reporter and then made their move and the arrests. It was scary.
