Its a fatal accident east 580 at macarthur boulevard involving a car hitting a power pole and we do understand there are live wires now being reported on the roadway. Chp is temporarily shutting down the onramp to east 580. All lanes of the freeway are open. In richmond we had an accident blocking a couple of lanes. Chp now tells us all lanes are now open and you can see the traffic flowing well through the area at 63 miles per hour. Now, heres the scoop for local transit. We are live here at this temporary new dmv office that opened up in East San Jose. This is the one of four to open up across the state specifically to process the applicants from a controversial new law, a b6 0, which provides drivers licenses for undocumented immigrants. Starting now, you do not need to prove youre in the country legally to get a drivers license. However, you still need to pass the written and vision test and, of course, the actual driving test itself. Yes means yes for College Students. A new law says any College Students about to have sex must get, quote, an affirmative conscious and voluntary agreement to engage in sexual activity. Silence or lack of resistance is no longer considered consent. And san jose restaurants finally catch up with other cities in california by banning all styrofoam food containers. This new round of laws applies to local restaurants. Previously chain restaurants were already banning styrofoam. Its commonly considered to be one of the top items found in litter. Finally, chickens, pigs and cows now have a little more breathing room. A new law goes into effect that gives more room to egg laying hens, breeding sows and veal cows. In berkeley a tax on sugary drinks like sodas and Energy Drinks will take effect today. Measure d levies a onecent per ounce tax for beverages that contribute to obesity and diabetes. Berkeley is the first city in the nation to put this kind of tax into effect overcome well funded opposition from the soda industry. Last fall voters rejected a similar measure in San Francisco. And in san mateo county, it is costing more now to buy a bag when you go shopping. You can pay for a reusable plastic bag. The price now 25 cents per bag. Thats up from a dime from last year. And a new state law says dogs are now allowed in outdoor seating areas as restaurants as long as theyre on a leash and well behaved but the final decision on dining with dogs is left with local cities and individual restaurants. Protestors were out new years eve in the bay area. The crowd along San Franciscos embarcadero included a few dozen people protesting against police shootings. Police kept an eye on them as they marched down the embarcadero in a peaceful demonstration. And protestors were also out in oakland last night. Some of them were arrested after bottles were thrown at Police Officers and a group failed to disperse when orderedded to do so. Police were when ordered to do so. Police were on high alert after someone posted a banner at an east oakland fire station. The message was a threat against oakland Police Officers on january 1. The Oakland Police department is aware of threats that have been made to Law Enforcement agencies. Because of threats against officers Oakland Police worked in teams of two last night. New york city will likely name two streets after the Police Detectives who were shot and killed some 12 days ago. The proposed name changes are for the streets in brooklyn where rafael ramos and wenjian liu lived. The city Council Plans to vote on the street naming bill at its second meeting later this month. Stormy weather is slowing the search for victims and wreckage from air asia flight 8501. The search area has doubled in size but choppy seas are preventing divers from going in. Starting today, gasoline and diesel producers will have to either supply lower carbon fuels or buy pollution permits for the Greenhouse Gases created when the fuel is burned.
