National guard troops have spanned outfoot fanned out throughout the city and firefighters are putting out fires. This follows riots in several parts of the city after the funeral of a black man who died in police custody. The governor of maryland has declared a state of emergency in baltimore to try and tamp down the violence and also all that looting. Edward lawrence reports on the chaotic scene.
