New video showing the forceful winds in Southern California that have been knocking down trees and even tearing open water mains. The gusts are up to 60 miles an hour leaving more than 2400 people without power in los angeles. In hawthorne, winds knocked a massive tree on a car. And in east l. A. , the gusts brought trees crashing on to power lines meanwhile, what are we dealing with here in the bay area . Sunshine . Those are referred to as santa ana winds. We call them diablo winds here locally. I believe yesterday you were interviewing Elizabeth Cook in los angeles. You remember her snare. Oh, yeah, you could see the hair just blowing in the wind. All this is because of what we have happening beginning with yesterday High Pressure building in. Its producing an offshore flow. Well have some gusty winds later today for the most part northwesterlies 10 to 20 with stronger gusts in the highest elevations and along the shore, as well. Southern california will have powerful offshore santa ana winds. Right now, we do have because of the winds visibility unlimited. The sky is clear. Boy, look how beautiful it is what a great start. Its going to be sun this weekend. We have a speak in temperatures and then would you believe on monday the first day of may and on may day well have near record warmth . At least for a couple of days. Again, High Pressure is right there providing us with that nice clear slot all the way into Point Conception and into the los angeles area. But as it continues to build we are seeing that offshore flow. When you have that, the humidity drops, the winds increase, you can see those tight winds right there. When you have those lines close together, thats called a pressure gradient. We have a little bit more of an ease, a slack right here in San Francisco. But look how tight those bars are as we move into Southern California. So when you have the lower humidity and the temperatures spiking, thats when you have the potential of fire danger. Boy, the California Department of forestry is saying that they are not looking forward to this fire season. We have so much fuel out there with all the abundance of rainfall. 70s around the central valley. 54 degrees in the greater lake tahoe area. If you are heading to the high sierra, it is spectacular. Lets take it over to our drive times where were still in the green for 101 through the south bay and 580 as you make your way from the livermore area or from 238 excuse me on up towards highway 13 into oakland. Quick and easy ride in the green, 20 minutes. Lets take to transit where we are running right on time. Thats excellent news if you use that as an option today and out to the bay bridge toll plaza, where traffic is still nice and light no metering lights. Thats a check of your traffic. Back to you. Only on 5 this morning, when you order fish at a restaurant, are you really getting what you think youre getting . Before you take another bite, you will want to see what Susie Steimle uncovered at several bay area eateries. Reporter youre looking at undercover video of a sushi restaurant in downtown San Francisco. Our first stop on a tour of bay area eateries to find out if the fish they are serving is what it says it is on the menu. We selected halibut, red snapper and white tuna for our random test. Thank you these are three of the most commonly mislabeled fish in the world. The United States had one of the highest mislabeling rates according to their research. Using the same dna bar coding kits, one by one we placed our fish samples into test tubes being careful not to cross contaminate. Then we sent the samples to the lab. Two weeks later our results came back. 11 of 16 fish were mislabeled. First red snapper. It turned out to be yellowtail rockfish. At another, silver greyrock fish. At another in oakland, white bass. And at another in san jose, japanese [ indiscernible ] all the substitutions are cheaper fish. I had some pretty, um, heated discussions last night with the sushi chef. Reporter at yuki the manager said to her surprise, her chef confirmed our findings. He said we order at night when we call in our orders we order thai which is jab neat for snapper. What gets delivered is mondai, which is japanese for [indiscernible name] reporter its overfished so supplies are limited. The menu board at yuki is now changed. Whatever me put up on the board has to be what it is. Reporter up next, halibut. Is it local or the halibut im not sure where it came from. But i can find out. Reporter at another restaurant the chef nailed it. [ inaudible ] thats from alaska. Reporter this is pacific halibut but at yuki and m aj ajori, we got a farm raised fish. They say when halibut is unavailable its replaced with flounder. Theres no intentional deceit on our part. There really isnt. I ordered, um, yes. Reporter the most serious case of mislabeling involves super white tuna. Tuna, super white, yes. Reporter our dna tests show its not tuna at all. Every sample turned out to be a snake mackerel thats banned in japan and italy. Its nicknamed the exlax fish because eating too much can cause serious gastrointestinal issues. It probably started as a marketing term because nobody what escalar is. Reporter the company on pier 33 delivers fresh seafood to restaurants all over the bay area. He doesnt sell it. You know, thats something which, you know, has Health Issues involved with it. Reporter but he also says oceana study is unfair as its only looking at a few species of fish that are frequently mislabeled. Generally for the most part the see from is honest. To imply that 50 or 60 of the time when you go out and go to your local restaurant or fish market that youre going to get mislabeled fish is just completely untrue. Reporter at this mandarin restaurant in san rafael the owner told us he is just following suit with other restaurants. Some people we dont understand so we put super white. Reporter before after talking to us he promised his menu is going to change. Youre going to remove the word super white from the menu. Escalar. Reporter Susie Steimle, kpix 5.
