Usually, for the past 48 hours. That fire hose trained itself north of the golden gate and that is where doppler is picking up most of the action. You can see north of this things are drying out a little but from novato and south a swath of rain. This is pretty much how its been the past 48 hours but some heavier cells are moving south and at least a little east but for much of the bay area this morning its dry. From hayward and south through san jose and Santa Clara County youre thinking what is the fuss about . Its about the fact that weve had more than a foot of rain in parts of the north bay, by antioch south of the strait and just a little north of highway 4 pretty good cells coming down. Were all going to get wet by the time this cold front presses south even though now you can see in the south bay nothing coming down. Thats been the characteristic of the storm. For the most part san jose only a 10th inch of rain yesterday. Down in the peninsula there hasnt been much either. But because in the north bay this is simply persistent and persissed and persisted there are flood alerts posted there until this afternoon. Flash flood watches are posted north bay counties another one to two inches on top of what we already have, today. Some places its approaching a foot of rain so theres possible flash flooding. Be careful out there. The complete forecast coming up, including rain for everybody. First, from the relative comfort of the studio they always say a good reporter is a wet reporter. I see this morning you qualify. Reporter i always follow in your footsteps. No matter where you travel i have your back. You nailed it when you said in the south bay everybodys saying whats the fuss . People called me and said wow you really missed this forecast. Not the case. In fact its even worse this morning than yesterday at this hour. I want to set the stage for you. Got to clean the lens because its raining, its pouring in the morinne area, moments ago let me show what you we saw. It looks minor but its a rockslide in the Marin Headlands. This is at its most notable because its a good indication that saturation is now taking place. Over a foot of rain has fallen here and will continue to fall. We have yet another impulse that will be rolling into this area. If we can jump out live here, i want to point out the ceiling has been lowered, fog is settling in on top of the wind and rain. So people in the north bay are prepared. This is what one local resident has to say. Were downtown on pine street. We get the floods every time it floods. Every time we have to figure it out. Its not that high yet. Its getting there. Its the same as last year when the Flood Warning was off. Reporter at this hour we have a Flash Flood Watch in effect until 3 00 this afternoon for the northern portion of our bay area. I would not be surprised when the next impulse rolls in late Morning Hours in the north bay, gradually slides across the San Francisco area in the early afternoon hours and then towards the south bay we see that watch upgraded to a warning. One thing out here at the Golden Gate Bridge and the headlands we noticed when the ceiling lowers theres airport delays. I called sfo, sure enough, delays. They cant say how long they will be at this hour but well keep you posted on storm watch on kpix 5. Roberta gonzales, back to you. Thank you. Steady rains combined with fierce winds means trouble for large trees as you can see here. This tree came crashing down in sacramento and barely missed several homes but did crush the back seat and trunk of that car. If youre headed to the airport as roberta just mentioned its a good idea to call ahead. At sfo a Delay Program is in effect all day long, 38 flights are cancelled so far. Delays anywhere from 15 minutes to halfhour. You can see everything that is headed our way any time, just take out your smartphone and type in kpix. Com weather to view the hidef doppler. Rain revealed another potential problem with the new bay bridge. Apparently it leaks. The San Francisco chronicle says rainwater is getting into the structure under the roadway along that new eastern span. That could cause corrosion which could weaken the bridge. Cal transtold the chronicle it can fix the problem but added no matter what some water is going to get in. Trouble for the governor and Lieutenant Governor now caught up in a active investigation. The state is looking into whether or not they received improper donations from sacramento lobbyists dozens of politicians including jerry brown and Gavin Newsome are expected to give warning letters, they are accused of not disclosing lavish fundraisers at the sacramento managetion. It may be a violation of Campaign Finance law. In sacramento the lobbyists so powerful they are called the third house up there with the assembly and state senate. Our insideers are asked how much power do they have in sacramento . You almost cannot accept a glass of water if its extended to you by anybody allegedly connected with the halls of legislature. Its totally and completely unrealistic. It is impossible, frankly to be strictly obedient thereto. You can have the best intentions and your conduct can be misinterpreted. The lobbyists have a lot more influence because they have the dough. They do. Last year lobbyists spent an estimated 177 million, influencing lawmakers from the governor on down. Its being called out at least. Even though its part of the game. Samesex marriage, a Landmark Supreme Court ruling coming up regarding marriage benefits to the justice department. He announced that samesex spouses cannot be compelled to testify against each other. They are also eligible to file for bankruptcy together and have the same rights and privileges as Prison Inmates in heterosexual marriages a new bill about to go before the state legislature, would mandate a call switch on all kill switch. Right, on all new cell offense cell phones in california starting next year. To deter sell cen theft. Almost 80 robberies regarding cell phones are in oakland. It could be rendersered inoperable when stolen. There are concerns though about privacy and hacking. I was at the press conference when this was announced and they asked the senator, what are we going to have here . A specific california phone if this passes . Which would obviously drive up the price. He says as california goes so goes the nation which could be a bit of an overstatement. But theres also a similar law in new york. If the two big markets accepted this it could naturally just go nationwide. Its going to be facing a lot of opposition. The carriers opposed to this, say its too cumbersome. Also a question of who is making money. Cell phones are a very big product both when you buy them the first time and your replacement. The theft though is a real problem around here. Coming up if nothing else we have the music. Been nearly 50 years since the beatles made their u. S. Debut. Were going to take a walk down memory lane with bay area fans. And u. S. Eyes another gold medal in sochi. Spoiler alert after the break. And on face the nation are the olympics safe . Bob schieffer sits down with representative peter king on the sochi security and washingtons weariness. At 8 30. Norway is the medal leader t now. Norway live look now at olympic park in sochi. Norway is the medal leader right now. With six total medals including two gold. Netherlands second with two gold and total of four medals. The United States is in third place, two gold, one bronze. A warning, spoiler alert, were about to give you olympic highlights if you have not seen this yet. A woman from cupertino is americas latest gold medal winner. Jaime anderson won the womens slow slopestyle snowboard are event, tongue twister. Sage catsenburg won in the mens slob style. He took a big chance on slope style. He took a big chance on his last jump and nailed it. With four andahalf rotations. Its 7 41. The rain is coming down to our north. It is and to our south people are going huh . Where is it coming . Its all going to the north. That is probably not a bad bliss far it to place for it to be. For the rest of the day everyone is going to get wet. This moisture that has been trained on the north bay and Northern California finally aims south, as a cold front pushes it through but you can see this morning where it is relentlessly rain for the past 72 hours. It continues to rain this morning. This stream of moisture that extends all the way from marin to the sierra where they are at lake level this morning is producing a few heavy cells on the east bay nearing the 680 corridor. That moderate rainfall. There will be more today. 2 00, 3 00, its going to begin to press south. A little break this morning for the peninsula and south so well get more rain today. It will be breezy at times. Showers tonight and then a dry break early next week. We may have more but not like the event we just had. Most of the focus is going to be for Northern California. Month tam, mill valley, more than eight inches of rain. And in the Santa Cruz Mountains more than a halffoot. Pleasanton and by the time you get to san jose its nothing. Theres a firm dividing line here and impressive gradient in the rain. You can see the next plume of moisture that is offshore. As we get closer to the shoreline, it heads south later in the day. Everyone will get wet. Well be windier than yesterday. Not necessarily good news there, because everything now softened up on the ground could bring down trees and limbs and that sort of thing. In the sierra, pretty high snow levels, because this is subtropical. Wind gusts to 35 Miles Per Hour. Snow level lowers though as the cold front presses in. Watch what happens this afternoon, by 3 00 this afternoon you can finally see the heavier rain sinking south. Over the peninsula theres still not much left in the east bay but everybodys going to get soaked this afternoon, go showery tonight. Tomorrow morning maybe a lingering shower or two by 7 00 in the morning. Lawrence will be here but there wont be much in 24 hours. Look at this, santa rosa almost another two inches of rain there. That is kind of where the bullseye is but by the time you hit redwood city and san jose, next 24 hours, 1 10 inch. So today balmy, 50 degrees. 58 livermore. 57 fairfield. Todays wet. As we get towards monday and tuesday we have a chance to dry out. Wednesday, thursday, stay tuned. Its possible but iffy. Thursday and friday, partly cloudy conditions. We finally get a little bit of clearing out. Now, thats the way it looks in the extended forecasted. Thats the theory. In practice weve got marcus mark kelly, youre in sonoma . Reporter yes, just south of sonoma. Let me show what it looks like out here. Water completely covering this road. Its blocked off for about a halfmile further down on 121. If i take you here you can see how much water were talking. I would say about a halfinch of water. At the fire station in front of the station, this is what it looks like. At least last night in other parts of Sonoma County sorry, we dont have that video. Well bring it to you a little later. Sonoma county we got about a halfinch of rain an hour overnight. We could see more, two to four inches [poor audio] two to five inches sorry about that. Having some technical problems. Thats what happens with the weather. We will try to get him back later in the broadcast. Meantime, tonight at 8 00 cbs celebrating the 50th anniversary of the beatles invasion. The first appearance on the ed sullivan show. It was back in 1964 and there was a reason they called it beatle mania. One of the beatle maniacs was one of our own. Ladies and gentlemen the beatles [ cheering and applause ] close your eyes and ill kiss you hard to believe its been a years. Since seventh grade. Reporter beatles fan Steve Marinucci still connects through his beatles web site and column today. And like any hard core fan that brawf reunion brief reunion last month sent chills through him. Just the two of them together brings out the feeling of very the afterglow is wonderful. Reporter a glow that ignited the night 74 Million People in america got their first taste of the beatles. Four liverpool lads changed music and the world forever i got hooked too. I collected all their albums and was able to score tickets to both their concerts at the cal palace. In facts i saved their ticket stubs and guess what . At the time those tickets were 6. 50 each. At the San Francisco art exchange theres an exhibit of rare and in some places never been seen photos of the fab four. You set it on the tripod. Reporter like the series taken byic ringo himself. The art dealers sell picasso too but its beatles memorabilia that gets people excited. In the end of the day i can have a ceo walking in with 3 million a year and look at a photograph of paul or john and say man, that guy was great. Later in the day i could have someone come in off the street, or is a homeless person and they will say pretty much the same. Reporter no shortage of collectors. This red jacket once owned by paul mccartney, seen here wearing it in an abby road recording session was recently bought for lots of money by a private collector. Youre buying a artifact from a prophet. In some ways its kinds of like it. Its the real thing. Its not synthesized. Its the real mccoy, or the real mccartney. Reporter the collector also brought rare magazines and song list from a concert. Anybody watching now i have a set list signs by all four guys, a lots of people will hear that and think wow. Reporter i have the complete set of beatles albums. In both ways. Its valuable. Its important. Reporter what can i get door that . People will say i wish i was linda. That kind of thing will be coveted by the smithsonian. Reporter except this collection will stay right here with me, thank you. We all have memories. If nothing else we have the music. Its still there thank god. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah reporter in San Francisco, linda yee, kpix 5. Dont forget the special is coming up tonight on kpix 5 at 8 00. Well be right back. , sacramento as lawmakers tak lawmakers take sides on onef the longest running tug of warsn th the ongoing water war is taking place in washington, dc and sacramento as lawmakers take sides on one of the longest running tugs of war since the states history. Even the president is coming in this week to talk about it. We sat down with our insiders, former state Assembly Speaker willie brown and Carla Marinucci from the chronicle. Can we come up with a solution . There will be bond measures on the ballot. You have steinberg and others in sacramento trying to come up with legislation. Meanwhile back in washington the republicans are sort of throwing oil on the fire. With legislation that is going to be overturned. I mean, right now this is a serious situation. This problem hasnt been dealt with. This has been through drought and wet years and never been resolved, why . It probably never will be resolved, phil. Because it is an ongoing asset that must be shared by everybody who intends to exist in the state and for the life blood of the state, it is in fact the mothers milk of politics as they say. Its more than just sharing. We have the water. Then we have the environmental issue. But thats sharing. You have to share it with the fish. You have to share it with the farmers. With the farmers. You understand we are the number one fogproducing state in the country. You cant produce food without water, period. Is that the reason we dont have a resolution . Because the governor, even the senators have yet to come one a plan. They say they criticize every plan that comes up but i have yet to see this. Theres no resolution to it. On a permanent basis. It is a process that keeps evolving. Every time you create a new city, or new neighborhood you got to understand you need water to make that neighborhood work. Why are politicians they dont want to talk about it in election year. They dont want to talk it in in nonelection years. Its difficult, its expensive and they get distracted but all the other by all the other dailies just like the climate itself, just like weve been talking about the drought in california were all wondering aloud how the rain is suddenly coming, period. That helps us. Theres not enough snow. The rain comes, it puts off the debate. No. It literally fuels the opportunity to keep growing and managing. It doesnt put off the debate. The debate is still there. Because you cannot make rain. Coming up in the next halfhour we have had a representative from the San Francisco Public Utilities commission talking about the ongoing water wars. You may be surprised where the bulk of californias water winds up. Roberta . Its cloudy, its foggy. It is raining sideways because the winds are out of the southeast at 17 Miles Per Hour. And its been raining since friday in the north bay. Its starting to take its effect. We have a Flash Flood Watch in effect and were on storm watch as the news continues right here.
