Shooter. Bigad shaban reveals from happy valley, oregon, where Police Reveal more about the gunman. Reporter authorities know who opened fire inside this Shopping Mall yesterday. Authorities say 22yearold Jacob Roberts has no criminal history but stole the rifle he used in the attack from someone he knew. I was helping a customer and then during the sale, there were five to seven gunshots, machine gunshot right outside my store. Reporter authorities released new details about the gunman. Name jacob tyler roberts, born march 16, 1990. Reporter witnesses say he calmly announced, i am the shooter, before opening fire. There is no apparent relationship between the suspect and the victims. Reporter fright ebbed shoppers quickly frightened shoppers quickly started heading for the exits. I bumped into several people. Reporter Authorities Say the shooter was firing near the food court until his rifle jammed. Thats when he ran into this macys. Getting everyone out was a tough job. Even the mall santa had to duck. It was a semiautomatic and i hit the floor. Reporter when it was all over, two people were killed. One young woman was wounded and the gunman took his own life. Its difficult to see how anything good can come out of a tragedy like this. In it reminds us how precious we are to one another. Reporter the mall will replain closed while investigators continue to gather evidence. Reporter shoppers and even the mall santa claus were forced to take cover. Bigad, we understand the police in the area were trained and apparently knew exactly what to do. Is that true . Reporter yeah. The sheriff says as a result of past Mass Shootings elsewhere across the country, the responding officers that were here yesterday happened to have gone through a Training Course where they were able to break up into groups before heading inside to sort of assess the scene rather than having to wait for s. Cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is live at San Francisco general hospital. Cate, this is a bizarre story. What happened . Reporter michelle, that baby boy is here at sf general in the Neonatal Unit expected to survive due to two Police Officers and a shelter worker who called 911. It was 2 a. M. When a woman started pounding on the doors of the Providence Baptist church shelter. She was covered in blood and said she had a baby. A person opened the doors and told kcbs radio what he saw. I didnt even know she had a baby. So. Thats why i was like, whats going on . I didnt at that time i was like trying to put all the pieces together. She was leaking blood so im like [ indiscernible ] , you know. I was scared for her. Reporter dorsey called 911. The woman left and came back with the baby in her arms. She was hysterical, saying she wanted to come in she wanted to come in at first. And then when she came back with the baby, she did not want to come in. Reporter then she took off again handing the newborn off to a man. We dont know if he was a stranger or someone she knew. But that man flagged down Police Officers. The officers quickly took the baby to sf general. One drove, the other performed cpr on the newborn. Officers at the Bayview Police station said their actions made them heroes helping to save the life. Hopefully this is a good start for the baby at least the baby is alive and now it has a chance. Reporter the Church Administrator for the church, officers told him his shelter also played a crucial role in saving the baby. At that time of night being in the bayview, its not a lot of things open and we have had the shelter here for 12 years and there wasnt even a guarantee that we were going to have a shelter. To have that happen makes all of it worth it. Reporter Police Tracked down the mother. She is here at the hospital with nonlifethreatening injuries. We heard reports she was uncooperative with police and that she could be facing child endangerment and abandonment charges. Live in San Francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. A 2yearold girl is lucky to be alive after a suspected drunk driver crashed through the wall of her bedroom. It happened in san jose around 3 30 this morning. The driver tried to drive away but was arrested nearby. The crib was broken in half, knocked to the floor. She was taken to the hospital but has no injuries. A change of appearance for the morgan hill man suspected of kidnapping and killing sierra lamar. Antolin garciatorres faced charges in three other kidnapping crimes and cbs 5 reporter anne makovec with the lamar supporters who wanted to see the suspect in court today. Reporter Antolin Garcia torres was arraigned on additional charges today but so far has not entered a plea. Yes, i do, your honor. Reporter those were some of the few words the defendant spoke today accused in the alleged murder kidnapping of missing morgan hill teen sierra lamar. He is also now charged with trying to kidnap three women in 2009 all from safeway park lots in the morgan hill area. A small team of sierra supporters came to the hearing this morning to see the suspect face to face. You hear the chains like last time and its come on, buddy, come out. Stop being such a coward. Reporter 21yearold Garcia Torres looked different than the last time he was photographed. His hair is longer and his goatee trimmed. He was arrested on may 22 in connection with lamars disappearance. She was last seen going to a bus stop on the morning of march 16th. Prosecutors say garciatorres killed her and hid her body but she still hasnt been found. Search teams still scour the south bay for clues. Every time, you know, its like we want to find her but we dont want to find her . Its really hard but you kind of you dont get used to it, but you just kind of learn to plug along and just keep thinking of her. Reporter the next court date for garciatorres is set for february 6. In san jose, anne makovec, cbs 5. Four fire stations in Contra Costa County will shut down next month due to painful budget cuts. Supervisors voted last night close the station this is walnut creek, martinez, lafayette and clayton. No firefighters by the way will be laid off. The goal is to save about 3 million a year. Palo alto just to the north there you have a cell thats moving along the 101 and also in toward the Santa Cruz Mountains but this is quickly winding down toward the afternoon settling down completely, just some partly cloudy skies. Tonight its going to be very cold. I think very few clouds. Some chilly temperatures especially in the north and the east bays but more storms are beginningline up on the horizon. This afternoon, more clouds, beautiful cumulus puffs over the bay. And cool temperatures, only 55 degrees in San Francisco. That cold front sliding through overnight dropping as much as a quarter to third of inch in wet parts of the bay area, most saw less. The cold air will stay in place. That means we are in for a chilly night tonight. The high Sierra Nevada still picking up some snow. Up to 6 above 7,000 feet but the snow levels dropping down to 3,000 so if you are headed in that direction, pack the chains. As we look toward the rest of the afternoon, things clear out. Thursday a nice day although it will again be a cool and brisk day. And then friday, a storm system rolls off the coastline. It will bring with it more clouds and chance of showers out toward the immediate coast and thats about it. Temperatures for highs today going to stay way down. 54 degrees in fremont. 54 in san mateo. East bay numbers only into the 50s. You notice the blue over the mountaintops. Those are temperatures for highs only in the 40s. Temperatures mainly into the 50s toward the next couple of days but how about this for overnight lows . Down into the 30s, frosty start to the day tomorrow. Wouldnt be surprised if we saw some of those temperatures dropping off into the 20s in some spots. Otherwise, we are looking at some dry weather for the better part of thursday and friday.
