San Francisco Police are announcing a break in the case of a serial arsonist. A man theyve been chasing for more than a week. Kron 4s Philippe Djegal is live in San Francisco with the latest. Philippe . Catherine. Police say the man was arrested this evening. He is off the streets. But his identity and the details surrounding the arrest wont be released until tomorrow. But this is still a bigger rest for the Police Department and the residents. Earlier this week Police Released photos and video asking the public to help identify this man targeting the area. Is suspected of fighting multiple fires at construction sites, occupied buildings, and dumpsters. Anybody who recognize the subjects were asked to contact police. Well in appears that strategy worked. The police say they are confident that they have caught the person they are looking for. We will learn more about him tomorrow. Berkeley police say a woman was sexually assaulted while walking near Telegraph Hill early sunday. She says a man hit her from behind assaulted her and then ran away. Police are still looking for the attacker whos described as mixed race, in his 30s with a heavy build and short hair. Hes about 6 feet tall. There are now extra Police Patrols around the area. Investigators are hoping the public might have information that will help them track the man down. Were also covering the investigation into a bomb scare tonight that let to evacuations and rerouted buses on a major street in San Francisco. Around 630, police got a report about a suspicious device inside a home on beaumont avenue, just off geary boulevard in the richmond district. The bomb squad responded. Police say a man was cleaning out his garage, when the person helping him thought theyd discovered a pipe bomb. Turns out it was just a pipe. Roads were reopened just after 830. San rafael fire battalion chief jeff buscher took me on a tour of the 80 acres of private land off kerner blvd. Hidden behind the tall leaves of the pampas grass a place to stay for the homeless. So you can see sleeping padstrash, pans for cooking when it burns here, it is not a typical grass fire the tons of trash makes for unknown fuels. The concern, a fire here could quickly turn deadly we had over 25 camps mapped as of last month so that is about 50 people and fires travel fast and of course we dont want anybody hurt deeper in the field, we found a camp with 4 people inside. You guys cooking out here at all . No just eating bags of chips one woman, who says shes lived here for 7 months, tells me from behind her tent shes run from the flames before. It is just like people having their candles on or just cooking or something. It is not like on purpose or anything. The Fire Department now wants to clear this entire area out. Co a car fire broke out near a gas station in daly city this afternoon. A witness who took this video says he heard a loud bang then saw the thick smoke coming from the area of the station. The man called 911 and fire crews put the fire out quickly. No one was hurt. Two people died in a fiery crash after a High Speed Police chase in San Francisco this morning. The chase began after chp officers spotted a stolen bmw in oakland. The chase reached speeds of more than 100 miles an hour. It ended when the driver crashed into the wall of the fifth street off ramp in San Francisco. One man was thrown from the car and killed. A passenger also died. How popular are the sea lions at pier 39 . Well, wednesday afternoon droves of people flocked to the pier to take pictures, stare, point, and wave. Even though nearly all of the sea lions are gone. Normally dozens of them are lounging about on these docks, a blanket of stinky wonderfull sea lions all just flopping around on each other. But now only this little guys remains. One sea lion. One. Just a hint of what should be. Do you know where they went . Well, yes, i do. Apparently this is their mating season. The sea lions started swimming off a couple weeks ago. They usually head south. Possibly as far as the channel islands. To breed and birth pups. The breeding season ends around mid july and the sea lions usually return here to pier 39 in late july or early august. A major fencing operation for stolen bikes has been shut down in marin county. The Sheriffs Department says a woman has been arrested. Kron fours jeff bush has the latest. Take a look at this133 stolen bicycles recovered by the marin county sheriffs problem oriented policing unit. The bikes were seized during a raid in two different locations in marin county. Officers also arrested 50 year old Rebecca Hammett of kentfield and charged her with several felony counts. The operation was a coordinated effort between the Sheriffs Department and the san rafael Police Department. Officers say that hammett was running a fencing operation and buying the stolen bikes directlly from the theieves and then selling the bikes for a profit. She is being held in the marin county jail. Police say they have identified the owner of at least one bike. This bike was stolen from the Sir Francis Drake High School campus and the owner happened to take the serial number down and provide it to police. Sheriffs deputies took pictures of each of those bikes and their serial numbers and say they are going to be posting those images on their instagram account. The owner of this house, and a woman are now charged with using the internet to facilitate prostitution through that web site. The web site has now been shut down and they are also charged with money laundering. In San Francisco the District Attorney says he does not think the Supreme Courts ruling on cellphone searches is going to it in a packed law enforcement. The Supreme Court says police need it to a warrant before searching the cellphone of an arrested person because the cell phone may contain personal information similar to a computer. Police say getting a warrant may take more time but needing it one is the right thing to do in this digital age. A long winded construction project is going to it sidewind traffic for a long two years. You can expect a delay of 15 to 20 minutes as you wind for the delay this.
