Law enforcement all over the bay area, they are zeroing in on one home and it turns out to be an overnight standoff with the suspect. First, Charles Clifford is joining us from fremont. What police are revealing today. Reporter i am here in fremont 24 hours after the incident began. You see the crime tape up and we are getting a clearer picture to leading to what led to getting those Police Officers hospitalize. It was a dangerous situation. According to the Fremont Police department, the suspect, the 44 yearold, he shot one officer during a traffic stop and then fled on foot to a nearby shopping center. He was working at this restaurant when he saw the man run by. That guy did not go into the restaurant. Reporter moment later, he was confronted by a second officer on robbers avenue in the two exchanged gunfire. And then he barricaded himself in this home. We try to have a conversation with him. There was nothing. Reporter Late Wednesday evening, officers put teargas in the house and the suspect called 911. He said he had a hostage, he fired a shot. He fired a shot inside the residence and claimed to injure the hostage he had. Reporter they concluded that he was not holding a hostage and they tried getting him out by firing a second round of teargas and the house caught on fire. The talks resume. As the drama unfolded the daughter granddaughter hid inside their home which sits one door away. We were shocked. Reporter he barricaded himself inside the house and they were able to bring the blaze under control through the morning but they were unable to rescue the suspect. His body along with the firearm was found inside. We are back life, it is unclear if the suspect died as a result of the fire or injuries he suffered after the gun exchange with Police Officers. The 11 pm hour, the gunman busted into a random home and in the middle of the night, at 3 am after negotiations were going nowhere, teargas, flash bombs, and the teargas likely starting the fire inside the home in the house burned for hours. The flames virtually leveled the place. They found the suspect in a closet dad. The people who were rented in a classic closet dad. Dead. He was found in the closet. The people who had rented at home had a dog and the suspect decided to keep the dog inside the home. And the people lost their dog. You can see the Police Cruiser the white pickup truck and then they went through there searching for evidence, it was a wild afternoon, overnight and morning. From the moment that word went out that two officers were down officers were all over and they showed support towards their families. We have an update on their conditions, the one who first encountered the suspect he is still in Critical Condition. The second officer, shot once he is in stable condition tonight. Today, and outpouring of support outside the emergency room at the Regional Medical center. No time were there less than a dozen of police cars outside. It is a tight knit community.
