Investigators tell us the suspect was terrorizing the downtown area, trying to break the windows of cars and businesses. We walked around and didnt see any damage. But police say the suspect shot at them when they tried to stop him. A nice night out for people in downtown sonoma was disrupted saturday night after deputies say they were forced to shoot an armed man. The scene broke out on west napa and Second Street after deputies were told a man was trying to damage cars in a Shopping Center parking lot when they found the man they discovered he was armed with a gun and was trying to break the window of a limo. Deputies told him to drop the gun. The suspect refused. And shot at least one time at the deputy did not hit the Deputy Santa Rosa Police Sergeant chris from ahern says thats when the deputy shot back. We believe the deputy hit him at least one time. The suspect then fled further into that parking lot. The suspect ran away but ended up face to face with more Law Enforcement minutes later popped out with the gun. Still in his hand, approaching deputies and a second deputy shot him. Police say the suspect fell to the ground and was taken to the hospital. Hes in Critical Condition because deputy shot the suspect. Theyre on paid administrative leave. The Santa Rosa Police department and the District Attorneys Office are investigating jessicas aunt to nick owned a Leather Goods store on the sonoma plaza just about a block away from where the shooting happened to that. Bart police say 34 yearold Richard Mcdowell of pittsburgh for us to 20 to 20 yearold woman into an elevator after both exited in sf bound train sfo, bound train just before midnight. Police say he tried to take her pants off, but the victim fought back and escaped the attack. Bart Police Sergeant spotted him saturday and took him into custody. Also out of walnut creek tonight, police are looking for a suspect they believe shot at another man last night. The attempted homicide happened in the cul de sac of Hutchinson Court near northgate high school. The victim is in the hospital and is expected to be okay. Police tell us there is no threat to the community as this was an isolated incident. A developing story were following tonight. 3 inmate deaths are being investigated at 3 california state prisons within an 11 day span. 2 inmates accused of attacking and killing fellow inmate Terrence Coleman at high desert state prison in Northern California on friday. Coleman was serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole last week, 2 inmates serving life sentences died after being attacked at separate california prisons as well. One at Salinas Valley state prison. The other at new folsom prison. And the north bay, a teacher from benicia middle schools arrested on suspicion of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. The School Superintendent says 56 yearold kurt Michael Sandel sent sexually inappropriate messages to a student. The School District notified police who then arrested sindel on friday. He was booked on suspicion of harmful matter cent with the intent. Of with a minor. Thats a felony. No other information was released. Police say the investigation is ongoing tonight. Napa police are asking for help in finding a person suspected of stealing garden maps. Take a look at your screen. Youre asked to contact napa police. Californias Opioid Crisis continues to kill thousands of people each year and now state lawmakers are saying that theyre working on a plan to stop it. Fentanyl caused about 80 deaths across the state 10 years ago. And this past year, the state reported nearly 6,000 deaths because of the drug. Thats a 700 increase this month. San Francisco Assemblymember matt haney was tapped to lead a Bipartisan Committee of state lawmakers to investigate solutions. These drugs are coming. In some cases from overseas sometimes are made in the u. S. Not only do we need to make sure that people who are addicted to fentanyl get help. But we alse have to make sure that were stopping this a flow of these drugs into our state. The first hearing to present solutions is set for january of next year. Well, october, of course, is Cancer Awareness month.
