The five states in play on this super tuesday across the state and the midwest. Florida has 99 delegates at stake for republicans. North carolina has 72. Ohio 66 and illinois 69 and missouri 52. Three of these states, florida, ohio and missouri are winner take all and right now donald trump in a Comfortable Lead against his republican rivals. If he picks up, all five of the states he will have a commanding lead moving forward and marching towards the Republican Convention in cleveland come this july. Lets look at the democrats and they have the same five states in play. A lot more delegates that are available for the democrats but more are needed to win the democratic nomination. 2383 are needed and florida, again with the lions share and you can see the numbers for the rest of the state and here is where things stand for the two contenders of the democratic party. Hillary clinton has 1235 and Bernie Sanders has 580. The big battle in this race among the democrats is going to be illinois. Clinton is practically her home state and she has strong ties to illinois, particularly with the mayor of chicago, rom emanuel. But rom emanuel is not a popular person right now in chicago. And so that has fractured a little bit of her vote and Bernie Sanders is hoping that he can capture a big chunk of delegates in illinois. Again, the polls have just closed in florida. We should be getting numbers out of that state in the next few minutes. Thank you very much, ken. Indeed a very pivotal night. It sure is. Lets bring in brian soldwell. If john kasich loses ohio and marco rubio loses florida, do you think both of them will drop out . I think, frank, they would have no reason to stay in. If you cant win your home state, how are you supposed to win other states around the nation . It is a real crossroads especially for marco rubio who is not projected through polling to win florida. Kaisch, we will have to see. Let me ask you, brian, what do you think about on the democratic side, obviously sanders has a big boost in michigan, the thinking is that if he can maybe win three out of the five states today, he might still be in play. If he were to win in ohio and illinois as an example, missouri, he is right in the thick of it. If clinton as expected takes florida, thats another win for her. So all in all, heather you know its a matter of what happens tonight but you know Bernie Sanders had the upset in michigan, does he have another upsets for tonight . Lets go back to the republican side. Its a very close race in ohio. Brian, if john kasich does win his state, what does that mean for donald trump . Well, you know its a winner take allstate, in theory if donald trump were to win florida he would take all of those delegates and not in ohio. It would stump the math and so he wouldnt gain as many delegates so you know we would move on. If he runs the board tonight, frank, its almost a runaway train. Ryan its ken. A question about how the republicans will handle all of these delegates as we get closer to the convention. We hear about the candidates amassing the delegates, particularly donald trump but once at the convention, how bound are the republican delegates to vote for that nominee. The republican rules call for bound and pledge delegates. 95 of them will be bound. That means through the first vote at the convention, theyre bound to vote for the person that they have been selected to represent at the convention. After the first ballot, ken, all bets are off and then thats what becomes what is known as a brokered convention or open convention, we dont have many experiences in history of that. It would be quite something to witness but after that first ballot, it is sort of a free forall. Brian, we talked a little bit about marco rubio as well as kaisch, what about senator ted cruz and if he were to win one of these states, how crucial does he become . Do you see this as virtually a two man race between cruz and trump . I think cruz wants to stick in there. Especially where he can pick up some delegates. He wants to see a knock out blow in one of those states that im guessing and that might be florida that takes marco rubio out of the game. If kaisch were to lose, your talking about a situation where its cruz and trump. The problem with the math is that if donald trump were to knock out marco rubio and cruz he picks up 30 of the delegates. Thats a problem. Who picks up the supporters of kaisch and rubio if the two of them drop out, does cruz benefit more from that or does donald trump benefit, even though the math favors donald trump. I would think cruz would pick up the votes because they decided earlier to not vote for donald trump so they would accrue to cruz so it has been interesting. Brian, i had a question about how another peculiarity. We have democrats voting in the republican primary to divert the race and that is happening in several states. Yes, particularly in ohio where you have people that are democrats voting for john kasich presumably to keep donald trump from winning the state. It is going on. Im telling you, the rules are state by state, party by party and its a very hard thing to keep on top of all of the rules and procedures that attend both of these parties as they march to the conventions. Brian and kevin, thank you so much for contributing to the conversation as we follow the results of the key primaries. My pleasure. Highway 152 through the Santa Cruz Mountains is shut down because of a mudslide. It happened at 7 30 and closed the road from spring lake to casa road in watsonville. Crews are clearing the trees blocking both lanes. A geologist will be assessing the mudslide to see if it needs stabilizing. The c hp has no estimated time yet for the reopening. The Highway Patrol is suggesting that drivers use 129 as a detour. The massive response that was in place in moraga after sundays sinkhole and was Service Interruption is shrinking. About 90 of the 2600 customers or so without gas starting on sunday afternoon are back up and running. But there are still been 100 extra pg e workers in town to get back gas to the 300 plus homes still affected. In the meantime crews are busy clearing out the sinkhole so that engineers can get to it and determine what caused the break before correcting the problem and fixing it. The town has declared a local emergency. We hope to take it to a special Council Meeting tomorrow night and to again get the official blessing, if you will, to continue and to make whatever adjustments we had to procure emergency services, to assign contracts and get all of the resources that we need in here to address this problem as quickly and efficiently as possible. A lot of work that needs to be done, so there is no time line for wrapping up that work. That means for the foreseeable future, rain boulevard in moraga, a main thoroughfare will be closed. A search in berkeley for a gunman wanted in connection with a shooting. It happened about 11 30 this morning at the corner of san pablo and delaware. Sky fox was over the scene shortly after police arrived. Officers were called to the location after neighbors heard several shots fired. One person shot and taken to the hospital. The victims condition is unknown at this time. The circumstances behind the shooting are unclear. Berkeley swat teams have been searching the neighborhood for hours looking for the shooter. Police have yet to release any information on the suspect. You might think of hackers as criminals, those using computer skills to steal, cheat and destroy information that they find online. But a course in stanford is training a new generation to hack and all in the name of national security. Dryer, warmer weather in the bay area, well check in on Current Conditions and talk about how high temperatures will go and when the warmest day will arrive coming up. Right now though on our facebook page, take a look at this, a lot of people talking about this dashcam video from police in new mexico where a speeding driver, you see right there gets out of her car and then starts yelling at officers and she does it all without a stitch of clothing on. You can find out more about this nude chase on the ktvu facebook page. Right now want to take you to 880 near the oakland coliseum, the aftermath of a big rig that caught fire, needless to say if you are on 880, this is causing traffic slowdowns in both directions as people look at the wreck and as you can see there, a couple of lanes are also closed. Again, happening on 880, not far from the oakland coliseum. What a difference a couple of days with pouring rain over the weekend, absolutely beautiful out there now. Interesting to see the difference, how you feel when it is a Beautiful Day like today. Right. As opposed to the weekend. I didnt want to go out. I agree. Now that we have the sun shining and warmer temperatures, we will have spring fever again. Giving you a look across the bay. Clear skies and temperatures, and certainly degrees warmer at this hour than yesterday at this time. And well check in on that coming up here in a bit. Take a look at the numbers, 66 degrees in santa rosa and mid 60s in oakland and 67 in livermore and 66 outside your door in san jose. Here are the current temperatures in the 70s. San jose 73 and we will come back to the highs for tomorrow coming up in a bit. Wanted to give you a comparison. Here is a look at Storm Tracker 2 where the rain is gone and looking at mostly clear skies. If i back up a bit, that ridge of High Pressure is strengthening and you can see the way the clouds take the cav va sure, the ridge, and will continue to strengthen and pushed the storm track to the north and will continue to do so and lead to the warmup. As we get into tomorrow, expect temperatures to climb, thursday, temperatures peaking in the mid70s for most of us in the south bay could warm up to 80s and areas like gilroy, maybe areas right around morgan hill. And san jose. Temperatures a little bit of a widespread view in nevada, still 62 and 60 in San Francisco and cooling off in areas in the inner east bay, temperatures in the 60s. 66 right now reported in fairfield. The winds are light. A little breezy in san jose and sfo15 miles per hour. But here is a look at the 24 temperature change. Up by 8 in livermore and 6 in concord and 5 san jose. Around the bay, not as big of a gap but a few degrees warmer than where we were 24 hours ago and the warming trend will continue. Another cool start and looking at low 40s in the inner bay and dipping down to 39 degrees for concord. Around the bay temperatures in the low 40s and upper 40s for San Francisco as well as oakland and hayward. Afternoon highs for tomorrow, a lot of 70s out there, low 70s for sonoma and san rafael expected to go to 70s. For the east bay along the shore, 69 in alameda and inner east bay, 73. 76 in gilroy and mid70s for San Francisco and no advisories in place and High Surf Advisory in the evening but that is gone. Warmest day on st. Patricks day. If you are thinking about getting out and enjoying the day, that will be the warmest day. Temperatures slide a bit on friday but the weekend looks good and the clouds increasing and for the first full day showers in the forecast. Starting to feel like spring. The plants are blossoming and it looks good. Talking about allergies. Do you think next week there is some decent rain or maybe the chance of showers . It is actually looking better, perhaps half of inch to an inch on monday. Thanks, rosemary. Sure. Frank and rosemary, tech tuesday and today we are talking about cyber security, so what do you think of when you think of hackers . You might think of those that illegally access, share and destroy data online but at stanford students are being trained to hack and we are joined by one of the instructors which the class is call hacking for defense steve frank, why offer this course and why now . The purpose of the course, heather is to try to make the country and the world safer by enlisting students to help that mission. And right now tell me about how many students are enrolled and tell me some of the objectives of the course. Well, the objectives is to kind of take the power of University Students and apply it to a set of problems that the department of defense and other agencies in the u. S. Government might have and connect them for the first time in a way that they have never been connected before. Our goal is to prototype a class at stanford with 32 students working on problems and eventually scale it in universities in the United States and build a National Network of students providing Technical Resources to real life military and defense problems. And what are those in washington saying about this course and how much are they contributing to what exactly students are learning and the various problems they are presented with . We were overwhelmed and honestly surprised about the department of defense and other parts of the Glens Community and honestly kind of blown away by the student response as well. Im teaching the class with two ex army colonels. Colonel whirl that ran the force and colonel fellter and tom buyers that runs the Entrepreneurial Department in stanford. We reached out to the department of defense and got 25 problems which students selected, 8 of them and we had the course overwhelmed with student applications. Which kind of gives us hope that when we scale this across multiple universities and we have had them reach out to us that we will be able to assist the department of defense in a way that they have never have before. This nation ended civilian participation in the military when we ended the draft 40 years ago and we think it is time to create a National Tech r. O. T. C. 25 different problems, can you share them . Sure, one of them is countering isis threats on social media. Another is how to disable attacking drones, some of the problems include helping navy divers understand the physiological state and location when they are under water and different problems from different agencies from navy and army and air force, etc. So the Defense Department helped to identify the problems, im guessing that once your students get in there and start working they will provide some of the solutions back to the Defense Department . Well, not only solutions but the Defense Department has more demos and prototypes than they need. You hit the magic word. They are looking for solutions to be deployed quickly. Up until the beginning of the 21st century, the u. S. Military kind of was dominant in technology. We owned all of the assets. We could build aircraft carriers and f3 fighters but they took decades, the adversaries and isis is using methodologies and people that are angle and on top of technology with military innovation that exists. It is not that were going to provide something that the military doesnt know they need. We are connecting with people raising their hands saying come help us. We need solutions deployed. I didnt mean to interrupt you but we have to wrap it up. Great to see the cooperation between students, Silicon Valley and those in washington. Thanks for taking the time to talk with us. Look forward to seeing what the students come up with. Thank you. Gunfire erupts during a series of Anti Terrorism raids in belgium and it is all connected to those deathly terror attacks in paris. We will have the latest when the four on 2 returns. This portion of fox 2 news sponsored by california phones. A violent day in brussels and erupts in a deadly shoot out. Security forces stormed a building in the capital. When police searched an empty building they thought they were fired on and one suspect killed and four Police Officers wounded. A search is on for several other suspects that got away. Streets have been locked down for hours as a result of the violence. Belgium is a key area of focus following the paris massacre because two of the attackers from brussels. Moments on capitol hill and a lot of finger pointing during a congressional hearing to get to the bottom of that water crisis in flint. Officials were called to testify to try to determine who is responsible for the unsafe levels of lead that have reached into the water supply in flint. If you will raise your right hand. Lead began to contaminate the water in flint in april of 2014 after the towns water source was switched from lake huron and the Detroit River to the flint river all in an effort to cut costs. It was by a chemical not in the supply that would have prevented the pipes from corroding and leeching lead. I did not sit on the sidelines and down play any concerns raised by epa scientists or apologize for memos they wrote. In fact i repeatedly asked for a final memo about lead in Drinking Water in a form that epa could publicly release. The former administrator for the epa was accused of being slow to act. After a warning about high levels of lead in june of 2015. It took another 6 minutes for the water supply to be treated. Susan head man has since resigned from her epa post and say the allegations that she failed to act are false and that the city of flint itself took its time. A Virginia Tech professor testified and he is the man that exposed the lead problem. And today he did not mince words about the epas role in the crisis. The epa has allowed entire cities to be exposed to Little Levels in the waters and they have covered up by offering these falsified scientific reports and they have never apologized for what they did in washington d. C. And to this day they have not apologized for what they did in flint, michigan. Now edwards has been appointed to this newly created committee. He is environmental engineer professor that tested flint water levels after a resident reached out saying no one was responding to her complaints about the orange water coming from her tap or the Health Impacts that she was seeing in h
