People fell ill the next day. It appears the three have now died with a suspected commonnality that all apparently ate here. We confirmed the dinner was put on by the Golden Hills Church which rented the American Legion hall. The dinner was intended for homeless, low income, and just plain Lonely People for the holiday. Contra costa county Health Services told ktvu that the hospital in antioch called asking the county to look into possible Food Poisoning which the Health Agency says is underway. In a written statement sutter says that last friday and saturday eight people were brought into the hospital with probable food born illnesses. Three have died, one is still hospitalized and four have been treated and released. Were informed that the hospital has been in touch with the u. S. Centers for Disease Control but sutter did not confirm that. The Contra Costa CountyCoroners Office says it is conducting autopsies today. Death certificates will be issued after. That food is still being served here at the hall today by another organization, fishes and loaves, which is different from the Golden Hills Church. One man who was here today and on thanksgiving, would would not appear on camera, tells us the sick people were seniors from a Senior Center but weve been unable to confirm that. Now, Sutter Health says that county health has said that they dont believe there is any danger to the public and having said that at 4 30 the Health Department is going to hold a News Conference to which we are going over to immediately. Now we go to the south bay where the search continues for those two inmates who escaped in a brazen jail break wednesday. For the first time were getting an inside look at the jail cell where tin mates cut through the bars to gain their freedom. South bay reporter jesse gary has been covering this story since last week. You have the latest including video from inside the cell. But before we get to that jesse, do investigators know yet what was used to cut the bars or just how it got inside the jail . Reporter they speculate some type of tool like a file was smuggled inside the jail but they dont know how that happened. The internal investigation to that is ongoing. Lets take a look at video. Earlier today the undersheriff gave aus tour of the 20 x 30 cell that housed four inmates who escaped wednesday night into early thursday morning. To ohio now where federal investigators are working to try to find a motive for that violent attack at Ohio State University. Officials say an 18yearold student purposely rammed his car into a group of people and then got out and started stack people with a butcher knife. Foxs amy lang is live in columbuso how. Amy, officials are praising the efforts of that officer who shot the suspect before he could injure more people. Reporter absolutely. A 28yearold officer on the job here for a couple of years. He was in the area for an earlier gas leak and was able to respond immediately. He shot that suspect dead and of course now as everyone looks to heap praise on this officer, and rightly so they are also looking at the motivation of this individual, this buckeye, this 18yearold student. What in the world would have motivated him to do such a thing . Abdul artan, 18 years old, a somali refugee, a student here at Ohio State University. Police say this morning just before 10 00 he jumped a curb, went up on the sidewalk, crashed his car deliberate ental a group of people. He then got out and started stack them with a butcher knife. Thats when the officer was able to quickly respond. He shot that suspect dead. There were 11 injuries, as you mentioned as people rushed to the hospital. They had been either hit by the car or stabbed. We understand one critical but not life threatening injury. Hopefully quickly. Our officer was on scene in less than a minute and ended the situation in less than a minute. There were lacerations and cuts most likely from the stab wounds, and there were a number of people that had orthopedic and other soft tissue injuries related to being hit by the car initially. Certainly a situation that could have been so much worse had it not been for the quick actions and the fact that this officer was just in the right place at the right time. It warned students of the attacker and to remember their training for an active shooter. Ktvus lee martinez takes a look at how it works. Reporter a male suspect drove his car over a curb and into a crowd of pedestrians at 9 52 a. M. At 9 55 Ohio State University sent a text alert to all students. It just said stay safe, run, hide, fight. Reporter within a minute an osu Police Officer shot and killed the suspect. What we had heard at first was that there were shots fired on campus and therefore the active shooter protocol was going to be put in place which is to do as much as possible to protect people which is to not engage, to find someplace to be safe and to hide in place while the professionals arrive to neutralize the situation. Reporter the text also contained the words run, hide, file. Run if you can, hide if you cant escape, and if the shooter finds you, fight him with whatever you have available to you. The University Says it holds training and drills for students for active shooter situations. Those are kind of key words that we use to remind people of their training. We internal have whats called a code yellow or disaster drill. Passengers headed to japan on a United Airlines flight are now safely back at sfo after an engine problem. Flight 837 had left the airport around 11 30 this morning with 202 passengers and 15 crew members on board. The flight was headed to japan but the boeing 747 started having problems with one of its four engines. The plane then made it back safely and the pilot did not to have declare an emergency. The airline is working to get those passengers on alternate flights to japan. And in Sonoma County the hearing for the man accused of drowning his fouryearold daughter has been postponed. A mental competency report was scheduled to be heard for the man charged with the murder of his daughter last week. But today the hearing was continued until december 19th in order to review the medical status with a second doctor. He was arrested last week after he arrived at the Healdsburg Police station carrying his daughters body. Oakland police say a known gang member who they say committed three shootings in20 minutes is under arrest after a swat operation. Police say one woman was hit in the legs during those shootings. Officers followed the man to his grandmothers home in hayward where he barricaded himself and refused to come out. After several hours the man surrendered to hayward swat officers this morning. Police say a search of the house uncovered an Assault Rifle believed to be used in the shootings last night as well as an assault pistol with a 30round magazine. Officials say they are not identifying the man yet. They say says on probation for a Violent Crime. They also say theyve tried to help this man turn his life around in the past. We have reached out to him on several occasions, invited him to cease fire callins, to offer him resources and a way out as well as a way to manage the risk of jail and death. He refused to come to the meetings as well as continued to engage in Violent Crimes. We made him a target to arrest him. Oakland police say since the Cease Fire Program started police have contacted more than 500 individuals and fear than 20 have reoffended. They also say the city has seen a doubledigit decrease in Violent Crime that in time. Two men were shot and killed in oakland this morning. Police searching for those responsible. Police say they got calls about gunshots fired on 39th street near west macarthur boulevard this morgue. Thats where they found two adult men with multiple gunshot wounds near a car. Both men were pronounced dead. So far no description of the shooter or any information on a possible motive. Its day three of cubas official mourning period for fidel castro. Thousands of cubans lining up in the plaza of the revolution, some crying, some paying tribute to the life of cubas long time leader as they filed through three rooms where posters of castro were mounted alongside flowers.
