In a case that has implications nationwide, a federal judge heard arguments in the first lawsuit challenging president trumps executive order to withhold funding from mccune it from communities that limit cooperation with federal authorities. We were in the courtroom and hes live in our newsroom. The federal judge said he will make a decision soon. He question the purpose of president Donald Trumps executive order which would will hold withhold funding because of their sanctuary city policies. In federal court in San Francisco attorneys defending San Francisco in Santa Clara County sanctuary city policies argued the president Donald Trumps executive order seeking to punish sanctuary cities was harmful and unconstitutional. We have no idea how this is going to be applied which lends itself to an argument that this executive order is so vague and ambiguous it should be unconstitutional. Under president trumps executive order jurisdictions that dont fully cooperate with immigration authorities would risk losing federal funds that would put at risk more than 1 billion each for San Francisco and Santa Clara County 35 of our revenue is at stake. Four to 5 million per day that we are relying on with the expectation of reimbursement from the federal government. Right there at the beginning of the hearing, these are undisputed facts. Reporter chad wheeler representing the Justice Department said losses will potentially be minimal. There would be no action taken against cities and there has been no Enforcement Actions he said. The judge then questioned the purpose of the order. Wheelers response was the Trump Administration was shooting the attorney general Jeff Sessions spoke in support of the order. Countless americans would be alive today if these policies have sanctuary cities were ended. What we did see today was a significant backing down on the part of the attorney and court from the broader position that the administration seems to be taking. Reporter whichever way the judge rules, either side is likely to appeal and it could end up before the supreme court. A long battle ahead. Apple now has a license to test Autonomous Vehicles, but does that mean there will be and i car in our future . Its hard for me to imagine. I could be wrong but apple operating automobile manufacturing plants. I cant help but think theyre planning on partnering with another automaker a retired dean of the golden gate Business School sees the potential of Driverless Cars as a change in thinking. Autos are looked at as technology. And this is why you see the stock price of tesla being so far out of whack with normal ratios and growing acceptance of the notion that our cars are going to be at least semi autonomous. There may be no apple car, some might have the heart of a mac what apple wants to do is be the brains or part of the brains behind Autonomous Vehicles without necessarily making the vehicles themselves. Its going to focus on what is under the hood if you will in terms of the software and technology. This present this professor has been working on Autonomous Vehicle science for 40 years. All the people from the industry are trying to figure out how did they do this in a way they can make money but they dont have to get into things they dont understand well. There occurs all ready that have automatic braking, Adaptive Cruise control and automatically keeping. There are lots of people in the industry who are doing research and development to get higher levels of automation and that will come along gradually. There are more than 30 companies from who were to google to gm and mercedes who have autonomous testing licensees from the dmv. Apple brings a remarkable range. They have magic and potentially it could maybe apply when it comes to autonomous car. Given the complexity, no one should underestimate the enormous technological hurdles ahead. Its not going to happen tomorrow or next year or even within the next decade. The more people who are trying to refine the technology, the faster it will happen. How big a challenge . At a base minimum Autonomous Cars must maintain a level of one fatality per hundred million miles of driving. That is something humans have all ready achieved and is got to be better. Coming up on the four onto after six days of deliberation the jury has made a decision on Aaron Hernandez murder case. Major headaches for computers, what crews had to do to get everything back up and running. Were tracking your weekend weather. Part of the week and will be great and part of the week and maybe not so great. To take advantage of this offer on a volvo s90, visit your local dealer. A jury in boston found Aaron Hernandez not guilty on both first and 2nd degree murder charges. The former new england patriot was accused of shooting two men in 2012 after one of them accidentally spilled a drink on him in a boston nightclub. The 27yearold is serving a life sentence for killing a semi pro Football Player back in 2013. Joining us now with the legal analyst is michael core does up. Are you surprised this guy got tried in boston and i know for a fact he was vilified there i lived there for a number of years. A not guilty verdict. It is interesting because as you know he was convicted before of a firstdegree murder and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. In that case the first conviction they had no gun, they had no eyewitnesses, all they had was circumstantial evidence. That jury convicted him. Now we come to this case where they had a witness, they had a weapon, and this jury comes back not guilty. Was i surprised . Actually not. Because the person that testified against him came with a lot of baggage. He was a criminal. He had selfinterest, he was a rat. Someone that testifies against others hoping to get something for himself. So the jury did not believe that he was in the car when aaron allegedly did the shooting into the other car the cost to deaths. Can the jury be painted a little bit . Hes all ready guilty of another murder. Of course but think about it the other way. They know hes doing life without possibility of parole so they know hes locked up. They might think, well we dont have to get them on this one. Hes there anyway. Prove it to us a little more than beyond a reasonable doubt. Maybe thats what they were thinking. I was going to ask you was the difference . Hes going to stay in jail the rest of his life anyway. One of the things in my mind was if you get convicted, is he getting more time . No. Even though the judge in this case, he was convicted of one count of possession of a weapon. What the judge did was say okay, im going to sentence you to four or five more years. Youve got a laugh at that. To life until you die and then youve got five more years to do. Lets start with the family of the victim. You got to feel for them a little bit. The jury found him not guilty. Weve got to go with that. Is a closure . Either way, it is never closure. Ive spoken to a lot of families and i have prosecuted well over 30 murder trials. One thing that was common is that the families tell me, i thought if he or she were found guilty it would bring us closer, but it doesnt. It really doesnt. How about from a pr standpoint . Every time his name comes up they get thrown into the equation and the nfl as well. Well, that is a violent sport. Out of all of the players they have, a number commit minor crimes and then some commit more major crimes and that leads the pack, murder. Does that paint the nfl . No more so than any other business where someone commits a crime. It is violent and i dont know whether they got into the chronic traumatic encephalopathy that everyone talks about. Is she a little goofy from the fit hits hes taken . We will never know. You cant know that until someone dies and you do an autopsy. Im not a prosecutor anymore. Thank you so much. Its kick it over to bill now and find out about a big holiday weekend. The weather is good for part of it and not so great for the other part of it.
