Reporter chief eddie garcia says that relatives called police to the 900 block of fuller around around 8 00. 18yearold Anthony Nunez was depressed and suicidal. So much so he pinned a suicide note. Arriving officers found him walking into and out of his house. All the while suffering from a selfinflicted gunshot wound to his head that did not immobilize him. They continue today go in and out of his home. At times pointed the gun at himself. At one point the suspect finally emerged and began pointing the weapon, a threatening matter and point it had towards the officers and pointed it towards the officers. Two officers fired one shot each. Nunez armed with a handgun was hit and killed. This afternoon we tried to speak to the family about the accounts of the events events, but they declined our request. Ultimately in the end, someone lost their life. I dont want to call it textbook from a tactical perspective im pleased and proud of the officers for using the restraint that they did. One thing that may help in these types of cases, police body cameras, the sjpd has ordered and now received those cameras. They plan to deploy by all officers to the end of the month. The girls were between the ages of 68 years old. It happened in 1985 and 2006, but they did not release information about how he knew the victims.
