Democratic party. And california played the largest part. Take a look. As a state that defies donald trump on climate change, immigration reform, and the 15 minimum wage cast for Bernie Sanders, 221 votes. And for Hillary Clinton the next president of the United States, 330 votes. Reporter well our delegation has been the loudest and today was no different. We thought there might be some disruption from the Bernie Sanders delegates as there has been during the last several hours. And of course during all day yesterday, but that did not happen. We caught up with our senator shortly after Hillary Clinton officially got the nomination. She was very emotional. Listen to what she had to say. We have faced a lot of criticism in so many places of the workplace and in politics. I remember it so well. How could you run for the county supervisor . Youre a mom. I said its because i have kids that i want better schools for them. I love the first rank. I honestly believe it is because i was a woman and i wanted everything. That was 1972. That first one. But i think its really remarkable, this achievement by hillary. Reporter it was a beautiful moment, the role that Bernie Sanders played in the end, but it hasnt been so easy. On the first day there was a lot of controversy and trust issues between the Bernie Sanders supporters and Hillary Clinton supporters. Bernie sanders himself solved that problem by speaking with the california delegation earlier today. I understand that many people here in this Convention Hall and around the country are disappointed. Reporter hearing their calls, seeing some cry and some stand in silence. Hillary clinton must become the next president of the United States. Reporter and after all, but demanding his supporters to move to Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders today came directly to the loudest clinton centers. The california delegations. As goes california, so goes america. Reporter and so went his direct final plea for the party to stop fighting. What we must do or forever look back in regret is to defeat donald trump and elect Hillary Clinton reporter but Bernie Sanders did not stop. In my view, its easy, it is easy to boo, but it is harder to look at your face who would be living under a donald trump presidency. Reporter with that some started to listen. We need to begin to have healing and the healing will come with more positive tests for the party. Reporter the true test comes tonight with former president bill clinton and nancy pelosi both speaking. It was very painful. Reporter bay area delegate jamie romer sat next to some of the loudest protesters last night. They are finally getting the message. I think probably it is very painful for them to understand that everybody is listening to them tonight, maybe tomorrow. But then theyre just history. Reporter new fences outside will keep thousands of protesters out, but will the protest continue inside . Its only clear tonight where Bernie Sanders himself stand. There is no state in this country that will play a more Important Role than california. Thank you all very much. Reporter well we all know where Bernie Sanders stands now. We have played a pivotal role in getting Hillary Clinton nominated. That means everyone here voted all at once and the crowds erupted into screams screams and applauses. Everyone is all moving forward and looking forward to hearing former president bill clinton to speak. We will bring you complete coverage in this news cast up until 7 00 and beyond on ktvu. For now though the very latest live in philadelphia. Im ross palombo ktvu fox 2 news. All right, thank you. Joining us now is the political analyst brian sobles. Do you agree or do you think that there are somber or do you think that there are some Bernie Sanders supporters having a tough time with this . Whatever the number is, it is pretty small at this point. And after Bernie Sanders moved for acclimation and everybody cheered, that was kind of a defining moment for the convention to be honest with you. But today was huge whether you like Hillary Clinton or not. Today, which was hugely historic in americas history. But today what are they trying to do today . They will try to begin the process of putting it into the funnel that ends with Hillary Clintons speech on thursday night and then the launch forward. And so every speech now is sort of tightening the grip on that narrative. Thats the key thing. Republicans tried it last week. By thursday they were kind of there. All right you have mentioned that upcoming speeches. What will the message be tonight . Well i think hes going to poke a little bit at trump and reserve for Hillary Clinton the opportunity to shape herself. You know what am i bringing to the national scene. So i think clinton tonight talks about that, talks perhaps about history a little bit and the whole initiative to move forward. What barack obama has done that there will be a little work in there on barack obama. So it will be, we will see how long it will be too. A long speaker. Can you put the two conventions in perspective . We had the Republican Convention last week. How do you think that the Democratic Convention is doing so far this week . Well in contrast i think that the Republican Convention would start off a little bit more. And the Democratic Convention will start off a little rougher. I think that they will, the republicans will kind of get it together and that they will be sidetracked by the speech that it will start just a little bit with that rumbling. Moving it in an order they wanted to. Now the Democratic Convention, well have much more later on tonight. Looking forward to it, thanks. And our coverage will allegation tend to our website on ktvu. Com. You will find streaming coverages of all the major speeches and the behindscenes blog and much more. Look for the politics section on ktvu. Com. Here in california firefighters are continuing an aggressive attack against the large wildfire in Monterey County. The fire has grown to more than 19,000 acres. California fire says that four firefighters suffered minor injuries while battling the fire. The fire has destroyed 20 homes. Tonight more than 1,600 other structures remain threatened. They prompted the closure of several state parks along the big coast. Ktvu ann rubin has more information about expanded coverage of the area and the hot spots that the firefighters are focusing on today. About 300 people have been evacuated so far. Firefighters spent at least a part of today trying to protect their residential area near carmel heights. But still the fire is raging to the south and the conditions arent helping. For crews tackling the fire, the conditions are treacherous. The terrain is steep and the vegetation is dense. And it will be kind of the perfect formula. Reporter the Alameda County strike team just returned from the front lines where they would drag 4,000 feet up the mountain 100 feet at a time. It will be a steep rocky slippery straight up and down. And that is the toughest part. Reporter as they would walk that line between what has burned and what they were trying to save the fire was baring down on them. And the flames are at least 20 feet high. If not higher as they will get into the pine tree about 150 feet high. And they would burn up. Im saying that to myself, how the heck are we going to put this fire out . More than 1,600 structures are threatened. Residence in surrounding areas have been evacuated. Just knowing that were here to help them that they would appreciate it so much that they are saying thank you issue firefighters, but that is our job. Thats what we are here for as we are happy to do it. Reporter but things are starting to look up. Conditions cleared enough to get air support at least for a while. Crews have made Good Progress on the northern section of the fire near carmel heights. In and out focus shifts south. Put that all together and it will be a pretty straining day for us. Reporter while cal fire and the Forest Service are in command here, firefighters have traveled from all over. We have seen crews from San Francisco and from reno with about 2,300 people out here in all. Well send it back to you, julie . All right, ann, thank you. The fire may be miles away from the bay area, but it is causing concerns about the air. You can see the layer of smog and smoke over silicon valley. Coming up at 5 45, ktvu tom vacar will look at problems with the air quality and what should be done when our air is bad. And im tracking the heat around here and the air quality. We will talk about the fires. We will talk about the increasing heat. We will also talk about the cool down thats on the way. It was a video from oakland that went viral. Oakland officers plan folk up basketball games with some kids on the streets. Coming up, the active generosity by a woman who saw our story. For nearly 30 years, one bay area theater sat vacant. They hope to breathe light into what they call a hidden gem. There is new hope tonight fan aging building in the there is new information on aging buildings in the bay area. A group of volunteers are hoping to bring the theater back to life. Reporter this is what it looks like now, an old vacant run down building. These pictures show the venue back in the hay day 69 years ago when it served as a Gathering Place for the community. But in 1982 the theater was closed. Theres a tremendous amount of structural reenforcement that needs to occur for the speeders to be up to a minimum standard. Reporter holes in the ceiling, damaged walls from a leaky roof. Theres a silver lining. Most of the murals have little damage, giving volunteers hope that the theater can reopen. So we really want people to know this isnt just some brick city here taking up space. Reporter 10 years ago they purchased a theater. For the last five years they havent been able to do anything with it. The funding just isnt there. With the demise of redevelopment several years ago all of our funding went away for that type of an improvement. Reporter experts say it will take up 11 million to restore the building. From there they would like to use it once again as a focal they would like to use it once again as a focal point for the community. Maybe there will be some concerts, Different Things like that. It needs to be reopened for the public. Reporter volunteers will give tours of the theater. Outside there will be a big festival with the jump house and a climbing wall and a movie starting at 8 00. Im Paul Chambers ktvu fox 2 news. All right, lets talk about weather now bringing in chief meteorologist bill martin. All i hear at home is the hum of that air conditioner and i just keep thinking oh my gosh. Im the same way. I keep telling my kids can you turn it off, please . It will be one cent a month. It really is. I didnt have airconditioning until like october. Im living it up now. I mean ive got that thing cranked up. Get a fan. It is really hot inland guys. Weve got the third day here tomorrow. Theres no fire advisories, no heat advisories, but just hot. With numbers up around 104 to 105 degrees. Take a look outside as youll seat cloud cover. Plenty of it right at the coast. Warm around the bay, hot inland as we head into your bay area wednesday. You knew that. High pressure will continue. One more day of hardcore High Pressure this guy. Then as we head into the winds on thursday and friday it will release its grip a little bit. But itll start to cool. In the meantime youve got the spare alert day for wednesday. It will not be hard to get that for thursday either. The san fire is brutal. Look at those numbers, 15 humidity. Look at the sobranas fire up north. 38 humidity, calm winds. Temperatures there in the 70s and low 80s. A much different scenario, but two very different fires. That 82 just popped in there. Basically the sobranas fire has been good fighting conditions, but they have a ton of fuel in that fire zone and tons of vertical terrain that the firefighters are struggling with. Its tough to get flights in there because of the smoke and the fog. The san fire, thats just big and hot and nasty. The terrain is tough, but not as tough as the other area. Were looking for conditions tomorrow to be equally as hot and nasty. And these are just two of the big fires burning around the state. You know as we have been saying that we are going to move into tomorrow, a lot like today. With that temperatures are going to create more fire concerns. Cool at the coast and hot inland. I said that yesterday that tomorrow will be a lot like today. Very similar days. We look at the satellite loop as you can see the fog. Very cool along the highway and very cool out in pacifica. We are checking hurricane frank and weve got Tropical Storm gorgette, just active pacific for the most part kicking up the south swells for the most part. And so youll see some surf advisories show up then. In the fire zones the fire zone, youve got low clouds and fog, which is helping firefighters greatly. A lot going on. So 104 right now in fairfield. 104 in livermore. Tomorrow will be just about the same. Air quality doesnt look that bad. A nice southerly wind right now. Mt. Diablo is not too bad in terms of air quality. But it will be again tomorrow. Fog forecast for tomorrow looks like today. The temperature forecast for tomorrow looks just like today. So get ready for another hot one frank. Youll be spending some money with the ac. I like to break it out to see what it will be like. It is expensive. My first year with air conditioning. Its expensive. All right bill thank you. Thanks, bill. Theres a chance for history starting this weekend in the east bay. Itll be a once in a lifetime opportunity. And so are they, the danville aces or as they are now known california district 57 a name not as catching, but much more significance. It designates them as Little League intermediate world participants competing against the best 13yearold players in the world. Its exciting, nervous to know that you are one of the one to 200 players every year that gets to play in this tournament. Its really cool. Reporter even cooler to experience both on the field. The level of baseball is unbelievable. The kids compete very well against teams from around the world. And if you have not gotten there gotten to raise money for the shirts and everything. And some thinners were given to our team, the 4th of july parade. Theres a lot of Community Things that the kids are involved with. Reporter the aces also get to see some of their Major League Heros up close. Not a bad Vantage Point for batting practice. They are becoming sort of mini celebrities in the east bay. They soak up the whole vip status. They really are. Now we need to be careful with how fun we make this verses the opportunity to play baseball and to possibly being the best team on the world. When you step on the field it is all about that game it is all about the game. Reporter because the game will be here soon and that the competition will be stiff. The tournament held in livermore and the reality is that the host team has never made it past the u. S. Semifinals. Everyone thinks that we are the underdogs, like we got an easy ticket to the world series. But all of us want to win the world series, so most of it were going to take it seriously.
