The cause of the fire has not been determined. The atf is helping the Fire Department figure out what sparked the fire in the first place. Engineers from the Fire Research laboratory are here and they will be looking at the electrical system, any appliances and equipment inside the warehouse for signs of a failure. He lived in the warehouse with his own family like the other residents. 2 investigates has been looking into official complaints known as the ghost ship. Photos sent to the city three weeks before the fire with the complaint saying the Main Building had been remodeled for residential. That triggered an investigation into if someone was actually living in the warehouse. Inspectors went there november the 14th but were unable to verify the complaints and never scheduled a followup visit. Ross palombo tracked down the city official in charge of the investigation to ask him what happened. There is a lot of interest in getting the answers as soon as possible. We want to make sure when they go out, theyre accurate. Ross went to several addresses looking for the warehouse owner but found few answers. He has owned the property since 1999 and documents listing it as use as only a warehouse. According to reports an electrician who did work at the ghost ship and occasionally stayed there says the building only had one electrical outleft and there was an electrical wire that ran from a neighboring business. He also said there was only one exit until he cut another fire door. Other critics say firefighters should have recognized the threat that the building represented and should have worked to shut it down immediately. [music] another one of the victims went by the stage name ceruse and was well known as a producer, d. J. And musician. 33yearold Chelsea Dolan from San Francisco was also among the dead. Also lost in the fire, 29year old farrell pines. According to reports, pines was a transgender woman who recently moved to the bay area from indiana. And relatives say her passion was music. And the fire victims were from across the country, across the bay area and around the world for that matter. The Coroners Office says three of the victims are from finland, south korea and guatemala. The mayor and Congress Member barbara lee were among the mourners that came with candles and glow sticks to remember those who died in the fire. Some blamed the fire on the lack of Affordable Housing and Code Enforcement violations in the bay area. Many offered their condolences.
