As we look at temperatures in the mountains, teents, 20 in reno. A lot of cloud cover spilling in here this week. Highs today, low to mid60s. A few pushth the upper 60s. Heres sal. Weve had a little bit of trouble on the 580 commute in the livermore valley. Not only 580. But also 84. 580 is slow but i might recommend that you stay on it, right through the dublin area. Theres a problem on 580 near actually, its on 84 near vinehill. This is a headon crash. A lot of people use 84 as an alternate to 580 this morning. I would recommend staying on 580. This headon collision near vinehill is going to be affecting a lot of the traffic on 84 heading on south. I would recommend staying on 580 and using 680. It will be a tough one. 680 is tough heading down out of sunol or pleasanton to su sunol. Lets take a look at the hayward commute. Southbound 880 is moderate. Live pictures. Developing news in San Francisco where a man was found stabbed to death just hours ago. Police rushed to an Apartment Building at Market Street and octavia just before 3 30 this morning. Ktvus Tara Moriarty says the police appear to be narrowing the search for a suspect. Tara . Reporter well, a halfhour ago, officers wrapped under whats called a cold show in a nearby alley. Thats where a witness will sit in a patrol car and a roid out suspects one by one parade out suspects one by one. We saw them bring out one latinawoman and two latino males and held up a red jersey to help identify. So the person responsible never left the building. There were a dozen patrol cars. Police fielded off every exit. This unfolding before 3 30 this morning in an Apartment Building off market and okay tavgia streets. A 911 caller octavia streets. A 911 caller said there was a body in the lobby of the hallway and we responded and found a person stabbed to death. Reporter the coroner has removed the body. Were not sure how many times he was stabbed but theres obviously a lot of blood in side. The victim is from San Francisco. Were not sure if he lives here but the police are trying to get ahold of his family before they release his name. Tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. New this morning, in oakland, several gas lines at an oakland duplex were ruptured a car smashed through a fence and hit the side of that building. This happened boulevard 1 00 a. M. Near ney and ritchie streets in oakland. Police evacuated the surrounding area. Once the gas leak was capped off, people were allowed to go back home. Police are telling us here at ktvu news the driver of that car fled the scene. Pg e should be on the scene this morning to repair those broken gas lines. 7 05. Later today, well learn more about the Major New Development involving the oakland girl who was declared brain dead last month. Jahi mcmath has been quietly released from Childrens Hospital in oakland. Alex savidge joins us live now to tell us why there is so much secrecy about her new location. Good morning, alex. Reporter well, good morning doing good morning to you. The family wont say where she is. But she will go to a longterm facility. In all likelihood, its a place in new york that said it is willing to accept her. Theres concerns about safety and security for jahi and other patients at the facility. Thats why the family does not want to confirm the location of where she will be headed. Its been more than three weeks since she was declared brain dead. Last night she left Childrens Hospital here in oakland. She remained on a ventilator as she was taken from the hospital in a private ambulance before 8 00. This is video provided to us by jahis family. You can see a caravan of cars leaving the hospital. She suffered cardiac arrest after a complication from a tonsillectomy. Because she was declared legally dead, Childrens Hospital had to release jahi to the custody of the Coroners Office and the coroner in turn gave the girl to her family. The familys attorney wouldnt talk specifically about where jahi was taken after leaving the hospital. But he says the teenager is having permanent breathing and feeding tubes inserted. They are needed to transport her to that longterm care center. Doctors here would not perform those prosecutors on a person declared legally dead. Jahis fragile. While were happy, shes out. Shes not out of the woods in terms of her own health because right now, shes in transit. So we ask that people still keep her in her thoughts and prayers. Reporter jahis family wont name the facility where shes going but one possible option is new Beginnings Community center in medford new york. Thats where the director said shes had discussions about the Family Moving there. They say they help patients recover from traumatic brain injuries. The director said shes looking forward to treating jahi. She can come through this. We need to she deserves and she needs to have the chance that all of us here at new beginnings have had. Reporter in a statement Childrens Hospital oakland said our hearts go out to the family as they grieve for this sad situation and we wish them closure and peace. The attorney representing the jahi family said she will be ready for transport later on this morning with those permanent breathing and feeding tubes insert. But the familys attorney will not say when and how she will be transported to that Long Term Care facility. Live this morning in oakland. Alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. This heartbreaking case began on deas 9th when jahi mcmath went into the hospital. She suffered serious complications that lead to a heart attack. On december 12th she was declared brain dead. December 20th, there was a restraining order to keep her on the ventilator. Your time is 7 08. Firefighters in pinole telling people make sure your chimneys and wood stoves are inspected and cleaned this, this afternoon a smoke explosion severely damaged a house on pinole family road. The family saw smoke coming from an electrical outlet on the second floor. Shortly after that, the explosion happened. It blew out the secondstory windows, the back wall and damaged the roof. Everyone inside the house escaped injuries. The fire was caused by a leaking pipe on the familys wood stove. The cause of that smoke explosion is still under investigation. Freezing weather is moving across much of the nation. Temperatures are the coldest theyve been in almost 20 years. The aspen, colorado airport remains closed after a plane crashed there that killed one person. It happened when the small plane was trying to land yesterday afternoon. According to the air Traffic Control report, the pilot was reporting high winds while coming into land. He circled and attempted to land three times before the crash happened. Witnesses say the plane flipped over and burst into flames. They were able to put the flames out very quickly, quick enough so the fire did not make it inside the cabin. The planes co pilot was killed. Two other people were injured. The airport will stay closed while the ntsb investigates. A skiing accident has put the leader of germany on the sidelines for the next few weeks. Angela merkel suffered a pelvic injury while skiing in switzerland. The injury was pan incomplete bone fracture that will require her to rest for three weeks. Its unclear if anyone else was involved in thezying accident in the skiing accident. A republican senator from wisconsin says he will file a lawsuit today over the government policy that lets members of congress and their staffs get subsidies as part of the Affordable Care act. Senator ron johnson will argue the policy forces him to comply with a rule el thinks is illegal he thinks is illegal. He also believes the policy hurts his relationship with constituents because it gives him and other congressional employees special treatment. Today was supposed to be the deadline for people who signed up on californias Health Exchange to pay their first premium. Now the deadline has been extended. Covered california is extending the deadline to january 15th. Now, in the last two weeks of december, the volume of enrollment applications increased a lot for the exchange. And the Insurance Companies since it is taking longer for them to process the applications, the decision was made to extend the deadline the premiums have to be paid. 7 17. Lawmakers in washington, d. C. Get back to work today with some unfinished business, including whether to extend benefits for 1. 3 million long term unemployed americans. Democrats want to extend the emergency Unemployment Benefits which expired december 28th. But republicans say they want to explore other options including new job training initiative. Are you willing to work with republicans to find a way to offset the unemployment benefit . Weve never offset emergency spending. Foolishness. Ive always said it needs to be paid for but we also need to do something for longterm unemployed people. We need to create something new that would create scrobs. President obama back at the white house, has urged congress to pass the benefits extension. The senate will take a test vote on a measure that would provide a threemonth extension of benefits but the real test is whether it can pass the house. Thats right. Lets check in with sal. You are watching highway 101. Thats right. San francisco, southbound 101, cesar chavez, clearing a crash that was blocking one lane in San Francisco. I want to go to the live picture and show you that southbound 101 is not doing well at all because of that crash. Now the best way for you to get around it, the alternate route is to go down to 6th street and get on 280, 280 will take you past it. You can rejoin 101 at the 280 interchange. You will save yourself a lot of time by doing that or you can use propotrero avenue potrero avenue. You dont want to get on the freeway south of market onle 0 that chance on 80. Moving along and taking a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, thats a moderate delay. Five to ten minutes, its more than we had last week. Things like it looks like were easing into a monday. No major problems, southbound 880 now, as you can see from theres a little bit of slow traffic here right from 280 until about union city and then it gets a little bit better than that.
