New this morning, San Jose State Police is investigating two cases of Sexual Battery. Ktvus allie rasmus is live for us this morning on campus and tells us that theres a warning that has been sent out to students. Reporter University Police on the san jose campus are investigating two incidents of Sexual Battery. Both happened on the campus yesterday. The first incident happened around 7 00 near where we are, this is the campus event and recreation center. Police say a man riding his bicycle came up behind a female student and groped her. Two hours later the man struck again, this time near the 8th 8th street and hoover hall dormitory area. Another student walking in that area around 9 20 told police she was also touched inappropriately by a man on a bike who had been following her. Now here is a description of the suspect. Hes described as being 20 to 30 years old wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. He also has a mustache and of course was riding a bicycle. He was last seen on the bike heading towards the campusville Village Apartments around 9 30 last night. The two students were not injured in this incident, but they did report it to police and again, police are asking for the publics help trying to find the person responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call University Police. A little later on on mornings on 2 were hoping to get an update from University Police and some of the students about this warning that went out last night. Live in san jose, allie rasmus ktvu channel 2 news. San Jose Police Department is investigating an Early Morning homicide. It happened shortly after 1 00 on sun crest avenue in east san jose. When they arrived they found a man who had been stabbed once. He later died at the hospital. No arrests have been made. New this morning, police have just identified the gunman in a deadly mall shooting in maryland. Hes years old and from college hes 19 years old and from college park maryland. The shooter was dropped off at the mall in a cab an hour before the shooting. As molly headenberg reports, investigates dont know why he opened fire. Police looking far motive after a man fired shots with a shotgun in a crowded mall in columbia maryland, a suburb between washington and baltimore. We were able to get officers on scene within 2 minutes. Based on our past training and experiences, those officers got into the mall very quickly. They were able to locate three people deceased. Five others were wounded and taken to a local hospital. Theyve since been released. Eyewitnesses describing a terrifying scene as the gunman opened fire. I thought i heard something fall. It sounded like brick. All of a sudden i saw people fall. Three people that were shot fall, so everybody ducked to the ground. I heard more than ten shots. What was going through your head . Protect them kids. They were just so little, and one was a newborn. Just protect the kids. The two victims, 21yearold breanna benlolo and tyler johns were employees of a skate shop on the upper level of the mall. The shooter has not been identified and police dont know if he had a connection to the victims. They found large amounts of ammunition on his body so theyre not taking any chances sending a robot into the mall to check for explosives. County officials crediting First Responders and the public for their help in minimizing the tragedy. Were an incredibly strong, Caring Community and the outpouring of love and compassion that ive seen today through tragedy really warms my heart. Police say theyre also flying in an explosives sniffing dog from ocean city maryland to help in the final efforts to clear the mall and reopen at some point in the future. She was an assistant manager at the skate shop where the shootings took place and had been working there since 2010. 25yearold Tyler Johnson had been working at the store for about three months. Investigators say officer michael mace made a split second misjudgment when he shot Sergeant Tom Smith. That according to the San Francisco chronicle. The shooting happened during a probation search inside a dublin apartment. The report says the apartments unusual circular layout and the two entrances to the bathroom were contributing factors. Michaels arts and crafts could be the latest major retailer to be targeted by hackers. In a letter on the companys web site, the ceo says the breach is being investigated but urges customers in the meantime to check their Financial Statements for fraudulent charges. Some tech analysts are saying the incident could be very similar to the Security Breach at target over the holidays. That data was somehow being collected with one of these tools that these bad guys are using now to collect this data and then resell that data to other people who then, you know, take over your identity, make false charges, et cetera. Its unclear how many people might have affected or how far back the hacking goes. There are 20 Michaels Stores here in the bay area. Investigates tell the New York Times that hackers in Eastern Europe are responsible for the cyber attack and say as many as six other retailers were hit. Some scientists are concerned that californias current dry spell could be whats called a megadrought. The megadroughts last for two decades or longer and Scientists Say megadroughts in the middle ages sometimes lasted more than 200 years. They also say historically the last century was a particularly wet one. The longest droughts of the 20 20th century happened from 1987 to 1992 and from 1928 to 18934. These photos from space show us just how dry its been. Mount shasta was covered in snow in november. Scientists say the snow cover normally peaks by april 1st. The ski slopes have been closed most of this month because of that lack of snow. And the warm Winter Weather is causing allergy season to get an early start typically pollen production is most noticeable in the spring. But with the temperatures in the high 70s, tree pollens are already showing up in higher quantities. The poll pollen production will more likely continue. Allergy relief could be coming soon. A weather system that is moving into the area could bring some rain. Another search is scheduled to get underway in quebec for the victims of deadly fire at a nursing home. Ten people died in that fire, and 22 more are missing and presumed dead. Icy conditions have been hampering the search for victims. Deicing equipment has been brought in to help break up 2 feet of ice covering that fire scene. The method that were using now with regard to melting the ice is were using steam, so the steam is being used for us to be able to advance in the scene without being able to preserve the integrity of potential victims. The cause of the fire is under investigation but investigators say only some of the rooms in the Senior Center had working sprinklers. 281 people on board a Royal Caribbean cruise ship are experiencing symptoms of flu. The u. S. Centers for Disease Control and prevention said many of the passengers are reporting vomiting and diarrhea. Health officials plan on boarding the ship today while its docked in the u. S. Virgin islanded. Theyll collect specimens to try to find out whats causing the illness. 4200 people are aboard. New numbers show marin county had the second highest rate of whooping coughing cases. There were 170 cases in the county in 2013. The highest rate was in nevada county. The report also says california as a whole saw an increase in whooping cough cases among children last year. Directors of the state Stem Cell Agency are scheduled to meet in berkeley wednesday. They are discussing plans for a 40 milliondollar Stem Cell Center that could make the state a world leader.
