Im dave clark. Lets talk about weather and traffic. Steve, the skies look weird outside. [laughter] meteorological term, dave. Weird. I think it means a lot of low clouds for some, not for all. It will be sunny to mostly sunny. Low cloud deck. Looks like a ridge of High Pressure may be taking it to the north. San mateo, santa cruz coastline 50s on the temperatures. Low to mid. Everyone is close here. Temperatures still not bouncing off those morning lows yet. By the coast, 60s, 70s around the bay. 80s. 90s inland. Its a summertime pattern. Heres sal. Steve, somewhat surprising. Everyones kind of back and at it on a monday. I thought there would be fewer people on the road. We already have drive times that are up nearly double what they normally are. The carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze, 31minute drive time. Averaging only about 37 miles an hour for the trip between the carquinez bridge on 80 and the macarthur maze westbound. When you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, you will see a 35 to 40minute drive time between where you stop and by the time you get into San Francisco, you will have 40 minutes that have gone by. There are no major problems on the bridge. We kept looking. We didnt find anything. San mateo and dumbarton bridge traffic looking moderate. A little bit of slow traffic approaching the san mateo bridge. 880 looks good. 580 in Livermore Valley has been slow but 24 still looks good. Lets go back to the desk. A new development in the labor dispute involving drivers who deliver gas to stations. Janine de la vega has been following the stoifer since 5 00 this morning. And janine has a look at the look at the Truck Drivers and how things have changed during the past hour. Reporter well, yeah. First thing this morning, Truck Drivers did show up at the fueling station and were refusing to load up gas and deliver. But it seems like a lot of them have caved to pressure from their booses and have gone back to work. You can see some of them there with their trucks in the distance. Now, they walked out, starting at about 4 00 this morning. They showed up at Kinder Morgan where they could normally pick up fuel for the day and they stood outside instead of delivering gas. They dont work for the gas stations. They work for carriers and Trucking Companies used to deliver the fuels. They are not unionized but say they had to do something to show their frustration because they havent gotten a pay raise in several years. Most make around 25 an hour. They say its less than a driver who hauls garbage. They carry a flammable liquid. Im joined by one of the Truck Drivers who stayed out here. What happened . This seems like its fallen apart, right . Yes, it definitely fell apart. I think people fell to the pressure. Everybody has to feed their family. Nobody can stay off work too long. Initially we just wanted to get the ball rolling and now that our voice has been out here, that was a huge accomplishment for us up to this point and maybe the labor board will take a look at the drivers out here not getting paid overtime and maybe they werent aware of it in the past. Now they are. Were just gonna keep on going from here and do the best we can and try to get the compensation package we need. Reporter at first you said this was just gonna be happening in the bay area. You hoped more Truck Drivers would show up and it might go on indefinitely. Will drivers still show up for work tomorrow, do you think . It appears it will be a one day thing. You can tell that everybodys pretty much gone for the day and yeah, it will be done for the day. Reporter okay. Well continue to monitor it. Weve been getting word that now it is a possibility that some of these Truck Drivers are now interested in looking at forming a union. Again, its still in the early stages. But they certainly wanted to get the attention of their bosses to let them know they are not getting compensated enough according to them. Reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. The Union Contract that covers 20,000 workers at all of the major west coast parties including oakland, richmond and benicia expires one week from today.
