Far below average. Heres sal. Were looking at a big delay on the eastshore freeway. We had an earlier crash near central. That kind of ruined the commute. The drive time is way up here as you drive between the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze. Its double what it normally would take and you should leave the house accordingly, an extra 20, 25 minutes might actually help the accident was there. The accident is gone. Right now on 37, we have slow traffic as we normally do, heading west toward marin county out of sonoma and solano county. Lets go to live pictures. I want to show you the traffic here will be busy as you drive to the bay bridge toll plaza. 25 to 30minute delay. We do have a big commute on 580. Its very slow on 580 westbound coming through the Livermore Valley to dublin pleasanton. Back to the desk. The earthquake hit at 3 20 a. M. Centered near American Canyon. Significant damage has been reported in the napa valley, but vallejo and Governor Brown declared a state of emergency which allows all available resources to be directed toward Earthquake Response efforts. Now, state Officials Say many homes and buildings are too dangerous to go into it. School is canceled for the entire Napa Valley Unified School district. We do have Team Coverage for you this morning. Janine de la vega is in vallejo which was also very hard hit. The damage estimated to be in the millions. But first, lets start with alex savidge. Alex, you are in downtown napa where dozens of buildings have been red tagged. Beautiful, Old Buildings there. Reporter a lot more cleanup left to be done. But a bit of good news on the power outage swage. All about 150 homes have their power back on after the quake. 70,000 people were in the dark. Were here on first street. This is a pretty common sight, what you see behind us here, shattered glass, littering the sidewalks. You can see boarded up windows on businesses like this one and dozens of others all up and down this street. As we walk here up the street, you can see a dramatic sight here here. Huge, concrete blocks that came tumbling from the facade of this building thats more than 100 years old. This is the Napa Historical Society, what was the old goodman library. Quite a bit of damage done here. This building has been red tagged like many others. State Officials Say as many as 100 buildings were red tagged after the earthquake. All of them too dangerous to go inside. On top of that, there are a few city and county offices that will have to be closed because of damage today. All across napa and the surrounding areas there are homes, churches and homes red tagged. We understand the California National guard will be doing an Aerial Survey to get a better sense of all of the damage here. Many businesses, of course, were hit hard by the quick, losing tens of thousands of dollars in merchandise. Many wine stores lost a lot of their product. We did find one business that was open this morning, a local coffee shop nearby. Just the two front windows and i think theres like a were ready to just do business. You know, coffee is important. [laughter] reporter the other big concern today is the schools in this area. We have obviously told you that Napa Valley Unified School district has canceled classes for today because they need to get a better sense of how much damage may have been done to some of those schools and inspectors will be going into those schools later on this morning, searching for damage, making sure those buildings are safe for students and then at some point later on today, they will make an assessment about whether they will be able to hold classes tomorrow and they will make an announcement for parents at 1 00 this afternoon. Thats very important for the students in this area to try to get back into class. A lot of cleanup left to be done here. It can take weeks to clean up the mess. You can see there is a lot of debris everywhere you look throughout the city. It will take quite some time to get all of this taken care of. Were live in napa, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. All right, alex. 7 07. Its an emotional time at a napa Mobile Home Park. Four mobile homes were destroyed. Six others were damaged. Yesterdays quake ruptured a gas line and knocked three dozen of the mobile homes off their foundations. The quake ruptured the water line feeding the Mobile Home Park and was so little water pressures, firefighters had to tap into another line nearby to fight the flames. Only two minor injuries reported. Coming up for you at 7 30, Tara Moriarty will bring us a live report on more of what happened after the quake. The red cross has opened a second evacuation center. If anyone who needs a place to stay, one shelter is at the Crosswalk Community church in napa on first street. The second is at the Florence Douglas center in vallejo. Both are open for overnight stays. Red cross says right now they are not accepting donations of food or clothing. They encourage you to help out by making a financial donation. It looked like hundreds of people in napa may not have water for a week. The quake ruptured 60 water pipes and dozens of mains. As of last night, 600 homes still without water. Three water stations are set up to give Drinking Water to those who need it. They are at Memorial Stadium at napa high school, the los flores Community Center in north napa and the parking lot on the north side of pearl street. Thats west of main. If you need water, though, bring your own containers to carry that water. 7 08. As weve been telling you, the quake damage is not just in napa, vallejo south of the epicenter, it was hit pretty hard. Millions of dollars in damage. Ktvus janine de la vega continuing our live Team Coverage from vallejo and some of the streets and buildings remain offlimits. Janine . Reporter yes. The city is reporting that a total of 41 buildings were damaged in this quake. Most of them were on mare island and here in the downtown area. You can see here on georgia street, there is a public works crew as well as another crew in charge of teardown. Were told they will be tearing down the wall of that brick building that you see because it is unsafe. Theyve closed down georgia street because they are concerned about falling debris. The building was constructed in the 1920s and it used to be a dance hall. Were told during the quake part of the roof fell through the building and so did bricks from the side wall. It landed several floors on the ground creating quite a mess. Its vacant. There are eight residential apartments next door. Those people were evacuated. We are told those residents did not stay there overnight. These are some of the buildings tagged throughout the city. Security guards have been guarding it and one described the damage. Part of the roof fell through three floors and its not safe. Thats why they have the street blocked off because of the front of the part of the building, the upper part of the building up top, the bricks are falling down. Reporter most of the damage in the city included collapsed awnings and broken windows and glass. A lot of cleanup was being done on tennessee street yesterday where several stores had windows that needed to be boarded up. There were homes where parts of the chimney fell down. Damage done has prompted the red cross to set up a shelter for overnight stays at the Florence Douglas center. A work crew here told me that they do plan on bringing in a crane to tear down that wall. They will be doing part of it by hand. Its a process that could take several weeks. We do know that five engineers and five building inspectors will be deployed here throughout the city to do a lot of checks. We will stay on top of it as far as any water main breaks. There were 16 water main breaks that occurred yesterday. But the city is saying that all of them were repaired last night as of 8 00. Reporting live from vallejo, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. All right. We have more earthquake coverage for you on our chan 2 website. You can go there to see the buildings deemed to dangerous to enter. We have slide shows to show you, powerful photos of the damage, right there at ktvu. Com on the home page. An active shooter was located on the base. According to the verified twitter account, the base was put on lockdown. There are no reports of any injuries. As soon as we have updates, well bring them to you. 7 12. Were still following the aftermath of yesterdays earthquake in napa. Coming up at 7 30, the impact on the areas hottest commodity an what visitors are being told to do. While crews this morning assess this very serious damage caused by the quake. Typical california style some are not taking life too seriously. See how skateboarders are putting the streets too good use. And traffic is busier on many of the roads in the east bay. Well tell you what happened to make it that way. Plenty of low clouds in place. Low dropping in from oregon into california. It will give us a cool monday. Well show you how cool and for how long it lasts. New this morning, San Francisco police say a man crossing geary boulevard was killed after being hit by a muni bus. It happened at 1 00 this morning right near lions street. Police tell us here at ktvu news that the man was not in a crosswalk when the bus hit him. The name of the man killed has not been released. But police say they will have more information later this morning. We have new information on the tragic hitandrun death on a 2yearold girl in San Francisco. According to the chronicle, police say the girls aunt was talking on her cln when she left the toddler unattended in the middle of mission street. Thats when a car hit and killed the little girl. Her aunt was charged with felony child endangerment last week. Police believe the hitandrun driver was in a light colored mid1990s lexus, honda or toyota camry with dark rims. 7 15. One Downtown Business in napa that survived the earthquake yesterday became a popular place for people to gather. Were talking about john nips car. It was johnnys car. It was packed. Some were heading home after spending the day at sonoma raceway. Some people who live in napa said they needed some place to get away after cleaning up all day. Were just taking a break from sweeping up the glass and vacuuming and getting all of the plates and crystal and china back into the cabinets. The workers say it was important to make people feel normal. Although they admit the restaurant is offering a limited menu and seating after the quake, they are hoping to get back to their full operation very soon. Some skateboarders in napa found a way to use some of the buckled roads after the quake right there. Skateboarder Dylan Robertson said after the quake he woke up to what he calls a brandnew skate park at his house. The quake created a makeshift ramp and other obstacles that skateboarders say is perfect for their sport. Its awesome. The sidewalks that are all broken up, new skate spots. Its a disaster for a good cause for skateboarders but not good in general. Meadow brook drive is a main road for this neighborhood. It will be closed for traffic. But its open for the skateboardert. Not sure when the crews will fix the road. The quake struck ten hours before the 49er game in santa clara. It had a direct impact on many fans making their way to the new home of the niners. Crews inspected the light rail tracks heading into the stadium. That caused 20minute delays for fans riding vta. Caltrain was able to provide special service to the game. Fines hoping to ride in ace train, out of luck. They canceled their service because of extensive track inspection. Concerns over the quake and possible transit trouble may have affected attendance at yesterdays game at levis stadium. There were tens of thousands of empty seats during the preseason against the chargers. The niners ended up with their first preseason victory beating san diego, 217. Sal, come on back. Tell us how the folks are behaving on highway 21. Pretty good. I think 24 is one of the alternates to 80 if you have a choice. Some people live right in the middle of the two and 24 still looks pretty good driving from Pleasant Hill road to the caldecott. However, 80 is a mess because of earlier issues in richmond. Its backed up through pinole richmond and into berkeley. Also this morning were looking at the bay bridge toll plaza. Thats about a 25 to 30minute drive time getting into San Francisco with no major problems on the roads. I want to show you the east bay and just from our map system, you can see how very slow its one long line of slow traffic on 580 and if you are making that turn to go 680 is just this is really bad. The only positive thing you can say is everyone is going to school and work but people have something to do. I guess im reaching for that one. Southbound 101 as you approach 92, san mateo, a little bit of slow traffic approaching that interchange. Lets go to steve. People are busy, sal. They have things to do. Low clouds and fog some a few high clouds wrapping around by a low dropping in. Lake county, maybe northern napa, solano, sacramento and the sierra. The low clouds are in place and a cooler pattern is in place for today. Looks to be the coolest day of the week monday. Maybe well be in the hot category by friday. Low clouds you can see some of the higher clouds right there around vacaville to sacramento. Not much. Why . Right there. Thats the low dropping in. Thats the key. Forecast models kind of it over nevada more than us. Lifting up the fog bank and giving it the sea breeze all it needs to get turbo charged. Lows are mild. Very warm due to the fact we have warm ocean temperatures. Coming down a little bit, the del tall breeze at travis. But a westerly component at oakland, concord, napa, a little bit of a northwest. Slight southerly for Half Moon Bay and sfo and san jose. Westerly hayward and livermore. That south wind along the coast keeps water temperatures very warm. 65 monterey. San francisco buoy went up in the last hour to 64. Point reyes, 63. Weve not had a northwest breeze. We dont have it. So we get the water temperatures which is why the coast is sitting at 60 and then they will end up in the mid60s because you cant cool off when the water temperatures are that warm. Cooler, breezy, inland temperatures take the biggest fall. 70s for some. 60s and 70s coast and bay. But those are actually slightly below average just due to the mere fact the water temperatures are low. The low kicks out on wednesday. That means warmer temperatures. Could get warm to hot. High clouds from the remains of a hurricane could filter in by the weekend. Dozens of people gathered over the weekend in New Hampshire. They were remembering journalist james foley. Now, foley disappeared in 2012 after covering the civil war in syria. Last week, there was that video showing his execution by isis militants. British newspapers reporting authorities have identified a british raised rapper as a possible suspect in the beheading of foleys. The 23yearold reportedly left his parent home last year to fight for radical islam in syria. Were learning about a message foley was able to get to his family. It was memorized by a fellow hostage set free, now, foley had personal notes for each of his family members and to his grandmother he wrote an american journalist held in sirah for almost two years has been released. 45yearold peter curtis was kidnapped in 2012 by an al qaeda terrorist group. Officials say the United States was not involved in any negotiations for his release. Family members say a u. S. Ally qatar negotiated his release. Hundreds are arriving for the Funeral Service for Michael Brown. Coming up in 25 minute,s well have, live coverage of the service and well tell you why Michael Browns brown is comreed pleading with pleading with protesters today.
