KTVU KTVU Mornings On 2 At 6am September 21, 2015

For Southern California into arizona. Not for us though. System to the north will sweep in starting tomorrow. That will start a cool down. Today is more about sunshine and warm to hot. There might be a late breeze over by the coast. 90s and 100s for some. 80s and 90s for others. All right sal still something going on in the city . Yes. And also in the east bay so we have a couple of spots, steve, where the traffic is not doing well. First spot we will start with is in san ramon. Southbound 680 a couple of different crashes. 680 which is normally doing pretty well at this time in the morning heading down to pleasanton is just not. Its backed up into danville because of these crashes southbound 680. San francisco they finally cleared southbound 101 near 280 its off to the shoulder but traffic will be a little slow there as you drive through. Its much better than it was. It cleared up rather quickly. This will will help the bay bridge. You dont have any surprises waiting for you. Lets go to the south bay. Northbound 280 on the right there looks. We want to update the valley fire. It has destroyed more than 1,000 homes and burned more than 75,000 acres. Three people died in the fire. Four firefighters were hurt and the fire is just about 69 contained. Alex savidge is joining us now with the very latest on the damage assessment. Alex. Reporter pam, good morning to you. The destruction was so wide spread up in this area that it would have taken this long to get an accurate count of how many homes were lost. Were in middletown this morning. Cal fire believes 1,050 homes were destroyed in this town and surrounding communities as this fast moving fire raced through here the weekend before last. This new assessment makes this the fourth worst wild fire in california history. The valley fire of course it burned through 113 square miles since starting one week ago or more than a week ago. The fire left three people dead. Close to 20,000 people wererd ored to evacuate were ordered to evacuate. But then over the weekend on saturday the people of middletown they were allow id to return they were allowed to return home and this community is pulling together to help those that have lost everything in this fire. At harvesters grocery store, the manager says donations are pouring in. People are call into the store giving credit card numbers and a lot of people have specific names. Theyre doing 100 here, 200 here. We have people calling in with anonymous donations so we are taking those and passing them around town. Reporter those who have no place to stay are still getting some help here. The twin pine casino has opened up 200 hotel rooms and also its event center to house those that have lost their homes in the fire. Even as middle town reopens, there are still parts of this area that remain under an evacuation order. The evacuation orders are still in effect for other parts of lake county such as cob and Anderson Springs those were some of the areas hardest hit by this fire. One of the reasons is they are trying to get the power on in this area. Pg e crews have been busy trying to repair close to 1,000 power poles that burned in this fire and they have of course the lights back on in middletown and many other communities but they say it will be friday, pam, until they can get the power on in all the areas that were damaged by the fire. Do you know if that is part of the reason i know we heard from a lot of people that waited in the long lines to get back only to be told they would not be allowed back in. Some are frustrated saying they would not leave next time there is a fire. Do you think part of the reason is because there is no power . I think that is part of it. The center when where get the in the if i think a lot of that damage is up in the hills and those in the community where is they are still not letting people back in as opposed to here in middletown where people are back home. All right, thank you alex. Authorities are investigating the death of a man found dead in the tassajara fire. They found the mans body inside of a burned car. The tassajara fire has started saturday afternoon. It has burned 1,000 acres and destroyed ten homes and several other buildings. People were evacuated because of the butte fire are being allowed to go back home. More than 70,000acres have burned. It is now 72 contained. In some areas evacuation orders were lifted yesterday but many return to find they no longer have a home to come back to. Now they are depending on an outpouring of help and donations. We wanted to help and we see what has happened on the news and our family has been effected and what started out as a small plea on facebook for my cousins that have lost three homes, turned into something much bigger than me. The Jackson Rancheria has received so many donations of food and other supplies, they are packing some of it up and sending it to the victims of the valley fire. The teenager accused of killing Maddy Middleton will make her appearance in court this morning. Reporter Adrian Gonzalez will be here at the courthouse. Maddys father doesnt want people to come out here and protest the teens suspect. Instead he wants people to bring signs and banners in memory of his daughter. 15yearold Adrian Gonzalez is expected to be arraigned at 8 15 this morning.
