KTVU KTVU Mornings On 2 At 6am July 21, 2016

They are attacking it from the ground level. They are punching through the window and getting some water in it. Most of what we have seen up until now, the crews are using the ladder hoses to put the water on the fire from above. They are beginning to attack this from the ground level as well. Let me take you to a video we shot a while ago. This fire started at 5 00 in the morning. When firefighters got here, the fire was already burning through the attic of this building. Its a struggle to get it under control. But crews are working to save other portions of this Community Center. I talked just a short time ago with the central county fire chief here which serves the city of milbrae. He described for me some of the other challenges they are facing. Right now we are just trying the get access to it. Since the fire is in the attic, we cant get to the area its going. At this point the cause of the fire is under investigation. They dont know exactly how this fire started. It began this morning in a building that would not have been occupied. That is something investigators will certainly be looking at. The other good news in all of this is that so far there are no reported injuries either to anyone who lives in this area or to firefighters. So you can see, this fire fight continuing here. They are working to put water on this fire from up above and also from the ground level as well trying to control these flames here and put this fire out that continues to burn at the Milbrae Community Center. Hey, alex, before you go, is there wind blowing and we see a lot of brush around the building. Is that a concern about the fire spreading . I think initially when this fire was much larger, when the crew with a starting to get a handle on it, they were concerned about the surrounding trees and there is another park around this building. The wind though, its quite calm. The conditions are quite calm. That is certainly very good news for these firefighters. I would imagine, yes, if you have anymore wind than you have now, they can certainly be in trouble. Thanks. Well touchback with you. We get the latest from the milbrae later on. Hopefully the weather is cooperating. Basically what im seeing it is overcast. There is a cool breeze with higher humidity. I think thats helping the firefighters in milbrae. Temperature about 55 is what i saw. It will be cooler today. No doubt about it. For many certainly inland they jumped up. Yesterday santa cruz was fog free. They can zoom in there in santa cruz. The Weather Service site at 80 degrees. West 13th, thats stronger and then 29. Thats definitely stronger. It may dip for a bit then temperatures will start to warm up in the santa cruz mountains. It will usher a cooler pattern for us today. You want to talk about milbrae . Milbrae is not fortunately a huge traffic issue. You cant see it from 101. You might be able to see the smoke. Its not affecting the traffic. Its slow at the bay bridge for a 2530minute delay getting into San Francisco once you cross the bridge. It looks okay. The fog is not as dense as it was when you get here. Its very slow in the area. Once you get to liver moore it does look good to the interchange. Thank you, many southwest Airline Passengers are still dealing with delays and cancellations right now because of a major computer glitch that crashed the airline system. We were told the flights were canceled. After that, we started to try to change the flights. Then thats where we are at this point. You are on hold . Yes. Im on hold. Im on hold. The Southwest Airlines website is back online and its app is also working, but as you heard, they are having a difficult time trying to guest southwest on the phone. Its working to get all the flights going. The website, i just checked it, southwest increasing the number of cancellations. She says Melania Trump read Michelle Obamas speech to her and inadvertently left portions of it in the final draft of the speech. Yesterday the white house talked about the controversy. I think there is a lot of common ground. She apologized to Melania Trump, michelles family. Donald trump says people make innocent mistakes. We are going to talk live to von williams who is live in cleveland. Well also have more from the democratic side where we hear Hillary Clinton may announce her running mate as soon as tomorrow. There is a moratorium on all new construction possibly in palo alto. And the Water Project that leaves many on hold. Plus the standoff in new york city. J7 new york police are arrested a man who barricaded himself for hours in time square and then drove the circle. He stayed inside his suv for hours after police tried to talk him out. The object he threw flashed and make ticking sounds. It turned out to be a candle wrapped in foil. Black lives matter protesters chained themselves to the housing headquarters. Still not clear if anyone was arrested. The protesters say they are angry about Police Killings and the continuing sex scandal and they want the city to stop funding the police department. A florida man is recovering after being shot by police. Hes trying to tell police hes a therapist and trying to stop someone from running away from home. North miami police say it all started when someone called 911 saying there was a man Walking Around with a gun threatening suicide on monday, but charles kinse says, he was just trying to calm down his patient. They say the incident is being investigated. Today the California Supreme Court will rule on the building of the two water tunnels in the San Joaquin Delta whether they will pay landowners to conduct environmental testing. This could add millions of dollars to the 7. 5 billion Water Project. How does our commute look so far . I would say it looks pretty good. I dont have anything major, but i do have slow traffic. Its one of those things. Maybe i should be okay with it because some of the slow traffic does actually mean that people are going places like work and the economy in the bay area is pretty good. Im going to look at it that way. Im going to be a Glass Half Full kind of person. Lets go to the picture now. The traffic is doing okay in San Francisco along northbound 101. The its a nice looking drive. Getting to San Francisco from the bay bridge is backed up at the toll plaza about 20 minutes. Once you get to this point, it looks pretty good with no major problems on the south 101st. From the bay bridge, that traffic looks okay. You are going to have a decent commute for the most part. Lets go back to steve at the weather center. You sound like me. For most its going to be good. You say traffic is going to be good, im stuck in traffic. For most of today its going to be cooler. A new organization in the east bay is making the high industry more diverse. Run by two entrepreneurs. They have pledges millions of dollars to transform oakland into a major high tech hub while also achieving another very important goal. We think tech can and should be diverse and inclusive. We think there will be more companies, more interesting products and services that serve greater markets. Now, the high Tech Industry is accused of not being diverse enough and recent studies show there is still a small percentage of african american, latino and women employees. The week the city council developed an agreement to build two buildings and hotel on the campus. The connectivity campus and eastern and menlo park would have to be torn down for that project. Some big changes are planned for San Francisco state university. The university could triple Student Housing at certain sites along the border. Its part of the transformation of the campus for the largely commuter school. Its including a major renovation of a gym and a Wellness Recreation Center scheduled to be completed in 2017. People from a san jose earthquake are helping this person who was injured in a pool. Before the accident, he was a very avid soccer player. He grew up in japan and came here when he was 11. Getting into sports was one of the ways to cope with the transition. He just always loved sports and soccer. Soccer. He just loved soccer so much. Win just graduated from Pleasant Grove high school and hopes to return to the sacramento area next month to continue his rehabilitation on an outpatient basis. I wish him well. Its such an emotional journey but the technology happening from this is incredible. 6 26 is the time right now. A santa cruz man is pledging allegiance to isis. What else he did that landed him in handcuffs. The scandal that can get all russian athletes banned from rio. Todays commute is going to be busy. We see the traffic and the traffic is backed up all the way out to the maze. Well have the temps coming up. Good morning to you, thanks for joining us on this thursday, july 21st, im dave clark. Good morning, pam cook. Its cool for most of us. People are asking me does it feel more fall like this summer. The breeze too. Those cooler ocean temps make a huge difference. There are some signs here maybe in early fall, but yesterday it warmed up and it looks warmer for the weekend. We didnt have any low clouds in this direction and not much of a breeze. It will get cooler today in santa rosa. Some low clouds on most of the coast. Yesterday was fog free in monterey and santa cruz. West at 9 in hayward and vacaville and also fairfield. A lot of places to cool down. A lot of 50s and one area 60. Concord 50 degrees, and pleasanton 58. Thats cool. A little to the north will keep us cooler today. All right, so what do you have for us . We are looking at a slow back up on the bay bridge. Here we are in july. It looks like it could be any month, september, january, february. Its not light. Someone asked me, what happened to our spider. Well, hes back. A little spider there. We keep watching for him. Its kind of unnerving sometimes. Lets take a look at other commutes. The san mateo bridge is moderately heavy. The milbrae fire has not affected the 101. There is traffic here especially from the bay area. Lets go back to the desk. All right. Thank you. We continue to follow that developing news on the peninsula. Firefighters are still on the scene at that fire in milbrae. You can see the roof of the Milbrae Community Center with flames pouring out of that. This was upgraded to a four alarm fire which means a bigger alarm fire and brought firefighters from all around the peninsula. This started around 4 00 a. M. Fire could be seen pouring out of the building. It is surrounded by apartments. That is the big concern. Firefighters are trying to keep the flames away from the buildings at this point. No one was injured. Time is 6 32. We are entering the final day of the Republican National convention. Tonight, donald trump will accept his partys nomination. This comes after a contentious night where Donald Trumps opponent did not support him. Vote for who you trust to defend our freedom. Ted cruz was loudly booed and this morning Donald Trumps Campaign Manager say he and his campaign were disappointed with ted cruz speech. Ron joins me from cleveland. Ron, thank you for joining me. I appreciate you being here. My pleasure. You know, last night was one of those moments that you are going to remember politically. Ted cruz has his eyes on 2020 and hes going to be campaigning on the republican side and hes going to run against donald trump and posing a primary challenge if donald trump wins. The antitrump forces are just absent. Those people are going to remember what ted cruz did and the question whether it will damage ted cruzs prospects going forward. There are those who say it may have helped him that those who agree with him down the line may bolster his future while others say his future is done with republicans. Thats the talk of cleveland specifically last night after the convention. You have to understand, the strength of the response, it wasnt just the booing. He had to be escorted out of the quicken loans arena here and his wife surrounded by security guards. That was pretty harsh. I think thats a feeling that unlike Ronald Reagan had a bitter convention with jerald ford that Ronald Reagan endorsed him. Ted failed that last night. We have never seen anything like this and im sure we can talk about that all day. Lets go to donald trump, tonight, he takes the stage. What do you think hell say and can he unify the Republican Party . Well, you know, at this point i dont think anybody can unify their Republican Party, but i think its about donald trump putting on a speech. There is lots of conversation should he just read from the prompter, should he just be donald trump, shoot from the hip and from the lip and fire up this crowd. The question is can he convey to the people watching tv that donald trump is someone who has not just given to provocative leadership, but worthy of america and worthy of their trust. Hes got to excite the crowd and also has to persuade people who are in the middle and who maybe dont like Hillary Clinton, but give me a shop. Well see if he can do that tonight. Well be watching and well be watching you tonight. Thank you for joining us this morning, juan. Thanks, dave, i appreciate it. Time now 6 36. In Oakland City Hall ended with at least 17 arrest.
