But they have new figures out this morning and its a lot more homes than we thought previously. Calfire now believes that 1,050 homes were destroyed in middletown in this neighborhood and some of the other surrounding communities. Its taken a long time to get an accurate count in part because the damage was so widespread and also because this fire was still burning in many areas. This new assessment makes this the fourth worst wildfire in california history. The valley fire burned through 113 square miles after it started more than a week ago. Close to 20,000 people were ordered to evacuate and many of them have been staying in shelters. Until finally over the weekend on saturday, the people of middletown were allowed to return home for the first time and now this community is pulling together trying to help those who lost everybody in this fire. They are getting help in various ways. The twin pine casino has opened up 200 hotel rooms and the event center as well to house those who lost their homes in the valley fire. And even as middletown reopens and now theres more activity here in town, there are still evacuation orders in effect for other parts of lake county. That would include Cobb Mountain and Anderson Springs hit hard by the fire. Part of the reason, part of the delay in reopening these areas was the fact that you had so many hazard and you didnt have power on for quite sometime.
