We will check roads for you through mornings on 2. Overnight its been a busy 24 hours for firefighters in east Contra Costa County. They responded to at least 15 incidents since last night. At least two of the fires were probably started by fireworks. Ktvus brian flores in brentwood right now talking about the damage by a fire that came real close to businesses and homes. Brian. Reporter yeah, it did, dave. Good morning to you. In fact, just about a few seconds ago i could hear some fireworks in the distance. You probably cant hear it. There are some fireworks going off this morning. We talked about how busy the fire crews are in east Contra Costa County. I talked with the fire chief about 30 minutes ago. He saws his crews are exhausted, responding to several incidents this morning. He hopes people get the message letting off fireworks is so dry. This is off elkins way. The fire from last night damaged a storage yard of a Roofing Company and also about seven acres of land. Look at this video, guys, from last night. This fire got pretty intense. The fire chief says it got started after 10 00 last night. Flames got as high as 50 feet high. He told me it started near a marsh creek area behind the Roofing Company business. They initially received several calls after fireworks were seen shot in the sky nearby. The fire had the potential to spread because of the roofing materials and the storage lot, but also because of dry brush nearby. It got close to homes, as you guys mentioned. Crews got the fire under control at about 11 45 last night. If you have a neighbor shooting, especially these large commercial type fireworks going off, you need to dial 911 and let Law Enforcement know. Do that. Reporter now, along with the fire in brentwood, crews responded to calls of a small fire in discovery bay, which luckily turned out to be out by the time they got there. Another fire in oakley that appears also likely started by fireworks. In fact, other crews from bay point, concord, livermore had to help. Back out here live, we should point out that fireworks are illegal here in Contra Costa County, including the ones that are labeled safe and sane. As you can see behind me, this area, if you are familiar with it, very dry out here. Very dangerous if people light fireworks on this 4th of july weekend. Back to you. Thank you. Well, already on this 4th of july east bay firefighters battled three separate grass fires in martinez about 12 30 this morning. It took about an hour to get it under control. Three acres of grass burned, but no homes or buildings were damaged. No one was hurt. Meantime, the San Jose City council is cracking down on illegal fireworks authorizing City Employees other than Police Officers to issue fines to anyone caught using, possessing, or selling illegal fireworks. Park rangers, Code Enforcement officers, and fire officials can now hand out fines of up to 1,000 to violators. Many bay area communities are holding parades this morning to celebrate the 4th of july. One of the most popular is in the town of danville. Now, the parade starts at 9 00 this morning, but there have been chairs lined up along the route since last night. This years theme is people helping people. The parade will feature marching bands, gymnasts, scout groups, horse back riders and community organizations. The first danville 4th of july parade was held in 1958. More than 40,000 people are expected to attend this years event. Other communities holding parades today include the rose white and blue parade in san jose. That sets off at 10 a. M. Beth heiden will be the grand marshal. Alameda calls it the largest parade in the country. It runs more than three miles. Starts at 10 00 a. M. At lunken avenue and park street. It ends on webster street. The central marin parade starts at 10 30. The parade is best known for having incredible bands. In clayton there is a chance for children to march down main street. Children can wear red, white, and blue, march or ride their bikes or scooters along the route. Sounds good. San francisco gearing up for the annual 4th of July Fireworks show. Its tonight right along the waterfront, and this Year Technology will play a big role in one of the nations biggest Fireworks Shows. Ktvus Leigh Martinez went behind the scenes to show us the preparations. Reporter it may not look all that exciting now, but this barge is spectacular. In fact, it will be lighting up your 4th of july. These guys are going to explain how one of these turns into one of these. There was a little snocone like looking thing at the bottom of that. Thats the lift charge. Its black powder. Reporter that is only the first explosion. There is a timing fuse inside the shell thats burning, and when the shell gets to the proper height that timing fuse lights a bursting charge. Reporter which sets off the colors in motion, so timing really is everything. It all has to work for everything to be safe. Reporter the state of california only requires one licensed technician and one assistant to be here, but for the San Francisco fireworks there will be 22 to handle the huge display. They start putting fireworks shells in the day before the show. All will be set off electronically, designed by this guy. The attack in bangladesh, a link between one of the victims and one of the attackers. How the recent terror attacks around the world are changing security preparations and procedures at the biggest 4th of July Celebrations around the country. Welcome back to mornings on 2. Hours ago the Iraqi Government raise the the death toll to 149 from this weekends devastating truck bombing in bangladesh. Almost 200 others were hurt. It was iraqs deadliest attack in a year and isis claimed responsibility. Experts say it shows isis can strike the iraqi capital. Iraqs Prime Minister ordered new security measures in bangladesh because of the threat of even more bombings. We are learning more about this weekends deadly restaurant attack in bangladesh that killed 20 hostages, including a uc berkeley student. The government is denying that isis is behind the attack. They say the attackers belonged to a banned domestic group. One of them attended the university where one of the surviving hostages worked. Authorities say the attackers forced the hostages to cite the quran and if they didnt they were killed. Uc berkeley sophomore tarishi jain was one of the victims killed. There are a lot of things that i guess are really out of our control and things that happen to such a brilliant student is sad for us. The loss of a student is extremely devastating. Family members say jen was in bangladesh on an internship. Uc berkeley is holding a vigil tomorrow at noon. Its open to all students and all members of the community. 7 15. Attacks around the world mean the police are stepping up security at Holiday Events here in the u. S. Especially true in washington, d. C. Where almost the entire police force will be on duty today. Authorities say there are no known terror threats, but they want people to be aware of their surroundings and report anything that looks suspicious. People will have to go to security checkpoints to get on to the Washington Mall where the big National Celebration is scheduled tonight. But there is a chance the fireworks may be postponed by bad weather. The National Parks service would put off the fireworks until tomorrow night if there is heavy rain or high winds or thunderstorms in washington, d. C. Tonight. 7 16. Lets check our own weather. A lot of people associate 4th of july with fireworks along the coast or in San Francisco. Rosemary, this year that may not be the best place to go . Yes, you are right. Low clouds. The fog going to be persistent as we get through the second part of your afternoon and evening hours. Along the coastline only partial clearing expected today. For the rest of us what you see right here outside across the bay from San Francisco, those low clouds, those are going to erode and we will have mostly sunny skies away from the coastline for your afternoon, but as we get into the evening hours those low clouds are going to move back in. I will show you the futurecast model in a moment. Here is a look at the trough that is bringing us the unseasonably cool, mild weather as we get in a little bit closer. Can you see the onshore breeze is with us. Today the change very little from what we have seen recently. But here we go. Through your 7 00 hour mostly cloudy skies over the north bay. Over portions of the bay, as we get into the afternoon its going to pull back a lot like what we saw over the weekend. Mostly sunny skies away from the coast. Perhaps some partial clearing for the coastline, but it wont last. The low clouds will move back in. About 8 00 or so into sunset now into the east bay. Those fireworks start to shoot off 9 30, 10 00, and we are looking at the north bay the possibility of cloud cover here and the east bay shoreline. So thats what we do expect. Could see, you know, impact perhaps just partial blocking. Its tough to tell. Really tough to call. I know the experts out there do their best to perhaps throw launch off those fireworks and maybe get them below the clouds. Its really going to be iffy if you are going to berkeley or emoryville. It was supposed to be exciting. We invited the whole class. Unfortunately, nobody showed up. In 15 minutes, what the childs mom and dad did this year to make his Birthday Party a huge hit. Up next, the incident that left an unsuspecting tourist with injuries in new yorks central park. Time is 7 22. A young man in new york was seriously hurt after jumping on what may have been a homemade firework. Police say the 18yearold was visiting from virginia when he jumped off a rock in central park yesterday. He landed on some type of explosive and lost his foot. They dont think the man or his two friends had anything to do with the explosive. They dont think it was left there to harm people. This is a time of year when we will see a lot of experimentation. Their goal is to make a loud noise, make a flash. They like to play with fireworks. Police say anyone with a basic understanding of chemistry could have made the explosive. They think someone may have tried to set it off earlier in the day and left it behind when it didnt work. The nypd bomb squad is investigating, but they say incidents like this are common around the 4th of july. Time 7 22. The father of that little boy killed by an alligator at disney world last month told rescue officials there were two alligators in the attack. This according to the emails obtained by the orlando sentinel. The boys father says a second alligator attacked him as he tried to rescue his son. Five alligators were euthanized while police searched for the body of that child. Since the attack, disney has installed a fence along the beach area. They have also posted alligator warning signs. A landowner doing Electrical Work is blamed for a wildfire. It started near the angels camp area saturday afternoon. He was working on a breaker box which started the fire. He has been cite. Calfire says the fire burned through 425 acres so far. It is 50 contained. Firefighters are making progress on the trailhead fire in el dorado and placer counties. Its 20 contained. No homes have burned, but 2600 homes and other buildings are at risk in todd valley and volcanoville. They are under mandatory evacuation orders. And firefighters have announced they have the erskine fire 95 contained. This fire is burning near lake isabella. Its the most destructive five in kern countys history. 48,000 acres have burned. Investigators are looking into the cause. 7 24. Authorities are looking for a Domestic Violence suspect who escaped from Gilroy Police during a standoff. The 41yearold is wanted for felony Domestic Violence. Police responded to an argument at a home on rancho hills drive yesterday about noon. They ordered the people to come out, but only the victim and another person left the house. While police were surrounding the home, the suspect snuck out the back door. Police say they did recover a weapon at
