Our little ktvu east bay branch is wrestling in the breeze. Today temperatures are going to take the drop and really take a plunge tomorrow. The fog is starting to make a move over the bay as well. Low clouds and fog and they are going to get together, if you will, starting to come around point reyes. Right over the golden golden gate. Over to tiburon, berkeley as well, and a little bit over San Pablo Bay to vallejo. All that moisture from what was hurricane paine, a few high clouds made it up here. Most of the moisture to the south. 21 gusts to 25. It was calm yesterday. Thats a big difference here. We are getting more of a breeze. Some of the higher elevations, 20, 25. 60s on the temps. Well see a lot of mid50s, giving way to 70s, 80s around the coast and bay, but then temperatures will take a drop as that system swings in, and its going to feel like it on thursday. 60s, 70s, 80s, low 90s. Very busy morning, what do you want to start with. We have a lot of slow traffic, steve, and one of the busiest spots is on interstate 80, the east shore freeway. Its taking 43 minutes to drive from the carcinas bridge to the mac arthur maze and you can see traffic spill to the bay bridge toll plaza. Its about a 25 minute delay before you make it onto the bridge. We have a big commute here. And a lot of people that i meet saying wow, we have to start counting over when you get to the bay bridge, so the time it takes metho get from the car key takes me to get from the carcinas bridge to the maze, and another delay there. Traffic is going to be busy. Lets move along and take a look at some of the other east bay commutes. Highway 4 is slow through part of antioch, pittsburg and bay point, and 680, an early start to the slowing from concord to walnut creek. Danville, through lafayette. 7 03. Lets go back to the oakland area where police are still investigating a car crash that shut down a major street this morning. The driver hit three parked cars and is being treated for severe injuries. Ktvus Leigh Martinez is live on foothill boulevard where the crash occurred. South foothill boulevard is open to traffic, and the evidence from the damage of what happened here this morning is still here. Police say a woman potentially drunk driving hit one war here. She pushed that car here. She pushed that car into a brick wall. You can see the damage over here. She didnt stop there. She continued down, you see the broken glass, hit a second parked car and where those men are working, she hit that white truck. She jumped the curb and severely mangled her car. She is in Critical Condition right now. The crash happened right before 3 00 a. M. The woman lost control of her car. She was driving at a high rate of speed, lost control and crossed from the westbound lane on foothill boulevard into the eastbound lane. She struck three different vehicles and completely mangled, destroyed her car. She was not conscious when paramedics took her to the hospital. Across the road, there were clothes and a gift bag that read happy birthday. Police believe that those items came from her car. Back out here live, they are trying to tow that last week there. Thats the white truck she hit before jumping the curve. Again, we do not have an update on her condition, but police say she was in Critical Condition with a severe brain trauma injury. And at that point, she was not looking so good, so we know shes taken to Highland Hospital in Critical Condition. She was the only drive, and Police Believe that a high rate of speed that she was driving and alcohol played factors here. Leigh, thank you. This morning, were learning more about a man accused of setting off bombs in the new york, new jersey area over the weekend. Authorities are looking to a number of trips the man took overseas as they try to understand his motive for the attack. Ktvus alex savidge is live in the newsroom with what investigators are uncovering. Over the past couple of years, the suspected bomber reportedly took three month long trips to pakistan and afghanistan and authorities are trying to figure out if he may have been in touch with any foreign terror groups. This morning, ahmad rahami is being held on 5 million bail, and attempted murder of a Police Officer, after he wounded two Police Officers in a shoot out before he was captured in linden new jersey. Authorities believe he planted two bombs, one of which exploded, leading 29 people hurt, and suspected of setting out of an explosive in seaside park new jersey and linked to a backpack full of pipe bombs found near his apartment in new jersey. Rahami is a naturalized u. S. Citizen who was born in afghanistan but grew up in new jersey where his family ran a restaurant. I never really thought that this would ever happen because it never really seems like that type of people. He was very quiet, but again, no town in america is immune from terrorism anymore. Now, rahami was captured after a bar owner spotted him sleeping in a doorway, and called police. Those officers recognized rahami, and they tried to arrest him. Rahami exchanged gunfire with those officers and they were both wounded. Rahami was struck in the leg by a bullet. Investigators are now working to go figure out exactly how rahami became radicalized and what his motivation may have been. They are also working right now, gasia to figure out if anyone else was involved in these bombings. Alex thank you. Hillary clinton and donald trump have both commented on the bombings in new york and new jersey. Trump said the bombings are good Public Relations for isis and other terror groups because it looks like they are beating the u. S. And he expressed support for profiling, saying its necessary to keep the country safe. Hillary clinton says trumps comments are being used by terror groups as recruiting tools to try and convince young people the u. S. Has declared war on all muslims. Federal Authorities Say more than 800 immigrants who were scheduled for deportation were mistakenly granted citizenship. The Inspector General for the department of Homeland Security found 858 immigrants were grant granted citizenship. According to the report, older fingerprint records were not digitized so immigrants who should have been deported were not identified and instead were able to become citizens. Some environmentalists and Affordable Housing advocates believe parking could be the answer to easing the housing crunch. The Bay Area News Group reports the Oakland Council will consider a proposal for parking requirements for commercial and residential developments. Mayor libby schaaf says many residents who live near bus stops rely on Public Transit rather than driving. Parking requirements add extra burden to developers and encourage more gas guzzling cars on the road. Starting in a week from thursday it will be much easier for people to help the homeless. The city of san rafael is installing purple meters. They can make a donation to the citys downtown streets team. The objective is to help find jobs for People Living out there on the streets. Ill show you the bay bridge in a second. 680, a lot of people will be stuck here, heading south, and look at all the slow traffic with the road sensors on highway 4. Theres definitely a lot of slow traffic as you drive through, and of course 80 westbound between hercules, just before highway 4. Its a solid line of slow traffic heading down to the macarthur maze, and not to forget about the richmond bridge, traffic is backing up well into richmond, and in marin county, southbound 101 slows near roland boulevard. It stays that way to the Marin County Civic Center for the backups. Lets go to the bay bridge, its backed up for a 25 minute delay before you make it onto the bridge. Bill nguyen was part of the Recreation Program that organized a trip to Sequoia National park. 20 students went on the trip. On saturday he went swimming in eagle lake and did not return. The Matthew Family chevrolet suburban towing a 10foot trailer was hit by a fast moving big rig on westbound 50 in rancho cordova. It burst into flames. No one was seriously hurt. Now, the matthews are grateful the incident wasnt worse, especially considering their history, the couples eldorado house was burned down in the king fire in 2014. That same year, their son vernon Cody Matthews a uc Berkeley Student went missing while hiking and hes never been found. That was the knife in the gut, with him going missing and twisting it was the fire. There was a long line of vehicles already stopped, and the vehicle behind us had a hard time. They did stop. The truck just couldnt do it fast enough. The matthews trail had four 5gallon containers of gasoline inside which likely caused the fire to burn more intensely.
