KTVU KTVU Mornings On 2 At 7am September 26, 2016

They are working out a strategy on what to do about this fire. Ktvu fox 2 news Christien Kafton, you are at an Evacuation Center. You have the latest from cal fire, and what they expect today. Good morning. Reporter yeah, good morning guys. We had a chance to catch up with a cal fire spokesperson a couple minutes ago, and he gave the latest containment numbers, standing at 20 contained up over 10 containment. They are hoping for more continued good news today. The fire started late yesterday morning, 10 miles east of cloverdale. That fire has burned about 1500 acres. Now, the latest update we have, again, is that the fire is about 20 contained and about 3 dozen homes still in danger. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place for geysers road from Pine Mountain road to geysers Mountain Resort road. Fire crews say they are making progress battling the flames and now crews are preparing for a long hot day on the fire lines. Its challenging with the terrain in that area, but we are hoping before the heat kicks in, were able to continue to do a lot of good work before fire activity potentially picks up. To give you a little context, the latest fire is only a few miles away from where the valley fire devastated the area last year. Authorities keeping a close eye on how this fire develops. Cal fire confirmed that there are no evacuees here this morning. Coming back out to the live shot, we are at the Evacuation Center here. Cal fire confirming for us that at this time no evacuees here this morning. Cal fire telling me that 90 or so people are believed to have been displaced from about 35 homes. Residents of those 35 homes, those 90 some odd people are likely staying with family and friends. The sun is starting to rise. The inversion layer is disappearing. Theyre expecting that the fire plume, column of smoke could start climbing again today. Theyre saying once the sunrises, theyll get a better sense of how the fire progressed and start working out a strategy again for today. Those crisp temperatures, im expecting youre feeling judging by your sweater are going to dissipate quickly here. Reporter they are anticipating those temperatures are going to climb rapidly today, but theyre hoping theyre not going to see the same winds that they saw yesterday. Certainly that can complicate things. High winds, rough terrain making things tough for cal fire crews on the line today. That leaves us to Steve Paulson. It will get warm fast. Hes right. I dont think the wind will be as bad today as it was yesterday. Theres an easterly or northeasterly breeze, and no relief in site. Unless a southeast breeze kicks in. 60s to start, although you can get a huge difference from 60s to low 80s depending on the elevation. But suffice it to say, its going to be a hot day. Does look better tomorrow. Speaking of hot, an tone Antonio Antonio so your summer, for pacifica, daly city, and much of the coast, you had it this weekend, youll have it again today. Tomorrow, the fog probably comes back. These are the record highs forecast for today. The forecast temps in the red, and record below that, close for many. Santa rosa may fall short. There will be many. San francisco 93. The record is 94. San jose and Mountain View look like theyll be in the mix. Heat advisory out, and you can imagine why. Its way above average on the temps. Northerly breeze was stronger yesterday. Hayward, offshore, northeast at 5. No help from the delta breeze either. 50s, 60s on the temps. Higher elevations, you can find 70s to 80 degrees for some. There are a few cool readings, but everything continues to rotate off the coast here, so thats an offshore breeze. Temperatures will be very high for some. Temperatures 90s to near 100 degrees there. Morgan hill down to gilroy south. Pardon me, steve. Those temperatures do sound hot. The commute is not doing that well right now on certain freeways. I want to start with 80 westbound as you head out to the macarthur maze from the carcinas bridge taking about an hour. Part of it is because there was a crash on the way, westbound 80 on willow. That crash has been moved to the right hand shoulder. You can see the traffic is slow coming off the benicia bridge heading out to this area. Theres a little break, and more slow traffic here, and again, even though that crash is on the right shoulder, the traffic is going to be busy. Lets go to the bay bridge toll plaza. And you can see traffic continues to move along slowly here. This is a typical delay for the toll plaza as you drive through. There have been no major problems. I do want to mention the traffic in contra costa is slow on highway 4 and 680, getting down to the walnut creek interchange, and 24 slow through lafayette. This is a slow commute, as you might imagine on a monday. 7 06. Lets go back to the desk. We want to give you an update on this mornings breaking news from houston, texas. At least six people have been injured and hurt in a shooting at a shopping center. A moment ago we found out the shooter has been killed dead at the scene. The gunfire first reported a few hours ago in the Southwest Corner of houston, texas. Now, youre looking at the pictures we see. At this point theres no official word on the extent of the injuries of the victims or a possible motive of this mornings shooting. Stay right here with mornings on 2. Well continue to update on that shooting this morning in houston, texas. Donald trump and Hillary Clinton will face off against each other for the first time this election tonight and the stakes are high with Clinton Holding a slight lead over trump in the most recently polls. Caroline shively has more from Hofstra University. Reporter good morning, to you, gasia and dave. And two polls say the race is too close to call. We know theres going to be a huge audience watching tonight, perhaps a super bowl sized crowd, up to a hundred Million People are posed to watch Hillary Clinton and donald trump face off. The debate stage is set at Hofstra University, and everyones wondering, who will take command of the race after tonight. Both candidates have been posturing ahead of time, with donald trump threatening to invite a former mistress of bill clinton to the debate after Hillary Clintons campaign invited mark cuban. Hes going to play games so the campaign brushed him back and i think they did a good job. Reporter clinton has years of experience on the debate stage. Trump battled his way through the crowded primary but this will be his first one on one. Trumps actual strength is as a counter puncher. My guess is if she went in there and handled him delicately, and he was respectful, he would go along. Reporter those close to clinton say shes going to focus on the issues, but some experts say she should come down hard on trump should they try to make her more likable or prosecute donald trump. I think that she needs to show strength. Reporter now, its a hard thing to show strength but not seem too bossy or pushy. Thats what both candidates are facing. It could get rough. Hillary clinton saying look, i understand this is a contact sport. Dave and gasia, back to you. Caroline shively at Hofstra University, thank you, caroline. Joining us now in the ktvu studios, ktvu political analyst joe tuman thank you for being here. Sure. Were looking ahead to tonight, were talking about style, and i want to focus on donald trump. Hes been able to handle some questions on national issues, international issues. Its really going to be a tough situation for him. Do you think hes able to handle those things, and give concrete answers . Well, handle them in the sense of trying to make an answer, sure, and sound like hes confident in what hes saying. This is a person with a very healthy ego, and sometimes that comes across as confidence, and voters like that in someone. Now, does he know the substance, has he done his homework. I doubt it. I think that he tends to, i dont think, i know that he tends to speak in generalities, he has in the last year, and sometimes his answers sound a little bit like his tweet. Its 140 character long answer and not a lot of substance to it, and so i wouldnt expect to see different tonight on that score. You know a lot of voters, who i think hope theyre going to get substance in these things. Even with the format being the way it is, which will allow them to clash with one another, theres not a lot of time for substantiative discussion on the range of issues that youre going to get, and so i suspect that mr. Trump tonight to answer your question, if we can move from what he says to how he says it, will probably mirror what hes done all yearlong, be himself, informal, thats how he reaches voters and sometimes in ways that are offensive, people still interpret it as being candid or honest, just say what hes thinking in the moment. Mrs. Clinton by contrast will be studied and will have done her home work, and come across as details. She needs to be careful not to be al gore i know the answer, i know the answer but sincere. People want to know shes not reserved and the rest of stereotypes that people have about her. Shes a real person whos thoughtful and does the hard work. Are these two being held to a different standard. Absolutely. Theres no question. Theyre also different people. Not just of different genders, but there is that sub text to the debate as well. In some ways, there are legitimate reasons to criticize her on her record, but you have to think sometimes some of the criticism has to do with the fact that shes a woman that has already broken one Glass Ceiling and might be breaking another. People have been dismissive of her. Lets talk about the fact that tonight could be the most watched president ial debate, not just in the cycle of three. It could be the most watched ever. A big audience, and these debates typical are. We use the super bowl for comparison in terms of numbers and sometimes for our audience, they need to know what the ratings are about. Having a big audience share is important. We measure in terms of the domestic audience. Truthfully, tonight will have a global audience. It was just a day ago that israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu was in town, because hes not stupid. Hell have to deal with one in a month, and everybody is interested because i cant think of very many countries on this planet that arent affected by the United States leadership, and whos leading the country matters. It will be a big audience tonight, and i think by the way, to answer your question, of the debates were doing, most likely the first will be most important domestically. We have a lot of early voting states in this country, and people have not quite made up their minds and this will be a chance to affect the early voters. The impact of the independent candidates on this debate and the millennials who may not like either one of them. Not having the other candidates in this i think makes them less legitimate. For mr. Johnson, the libertarian party, whats aleppo moment, which is something you dont want to have either candidate doing tonight, probably was the death nail for him. And they both had to be at a higher number in the polls to be considered on the same stage. Usually in the primaries you put everybody out there who can qualify but when you get to the last part of the dance, as it were. The networks a long time ago made a decision that they would include candidates, people who had a serious chance of winning and thats why were down to the two that we have. Not having those people i think is significant for them. It probably ends up helping mrs. Clinton in some ways more than mr. Trump because both candidates probably theoretically, are drawing Bernie Sanders voters who would have been going to Hillary Clinton. Not having there hurts their chance to take them. Joe tuman, ktvus political analyst. Thank you for joining us. Well see you again in a moment. Many people say they have decided who they are voting for. Lets check with sal and see how the commute is going monday morning. Its slow out there, and almost everywhere you look which has become the norm. Nothing out of the ordinary. We will see slow traffic at the bay bridge toll plaza as you normally would, driving for a that minute delay if you get to the end of the line. Traffic is going to be busy, and were looking at commute in the east bay where traffic is going to be slow on 680. If we go to the maps, i can show you 680 is going to be slow if you drive south to concord, highway 4 is really backed up all the way to antioch this morning, getting word of a stalled vehicle or something of an obstruction westbound 24 near central lafayette exit, so we are going to see a lot of slow traffic as we get to the east bay. You know, its interesting, 580 is not bad right now from caster valley all the way to san leandro and oakland. This could be your opportunity to get on the road before that gets really busy. We have seen bad commutes. Right now, it doesnt look bad. Theres your opportunity. Lets go to 280 in san jose. We have seen a lot of slow traffic here, not only on 280 but also on 101 and 85 driving up to the west valley. 7 19. Lets go to steve. Sal, you know, dan dibley. I do. Guess where he is this morning . Where is he. Hes out in clayton at the oak hurst country club broadcasting. He sent a picture on twitter and i saw it. Dans the man. Dan, front 9 is not bad. The back 9 is tough for me. Lets get to it here. We built this city, she, as in San Francisco, usually around city college of San Francisco. Already so warm in downtown San Francisco that i dont need the hoody i brought. Its going to be 93 degrees today. Record highs are possible for many. Mountain view in the mix, san jose, salina, Oakland Airport would tie. San franciscos 9 would fall 93, which would fall one short. Record is 94. Way above average on the temps. I dont have that great of news for the firefighters. Its getting very warm very fast at some of the Higher Elevations. At 2000 feet, 82 degrees with 50 humidity. That is not good. Its cooler toward the surface. Temperatures are going to warm up fast. I think upper 90s to near 100 degrees. Could be a slight southeasterly or southerly breeze late. But it looks easterly for me most of the day. A stronger north breeze yesterday. Thats starting to weaken slightly but its still offshore. Hayward, coming out of the northeast, northeast look at livermore, due east. San jose a little south. These may be a hint of things to come later. 50s 60s to 70s in the Higher Elevations. Brentwood, 60. Black hawk 62. Theres very warm temps. 28, though, up in truckee. Ukiah is 52. Monterey at 60. Fog will be a factor tomorrow but not today. Everything favors anarch shore di
