Mitch mcconnell the Senate Majority leader is telling fellow republicans that they may have to reach across the aisle to democrats if they cant salvage the health care bill. Mccon sell wants a revised bill by tomorrow or republicans may have to work with democrats. If we dont reach an agreement by friday, it is probably the end of a sole party effort for health care. If we dont reach it by friday, then the way forward as obamacare collapses, encourage democrats to work with us to find something better. Chuck schumer is already challenging the president to invite all 100 senators to come to the blair house to address this big issue. Lets turn over a new leaf. Lets start over. A new analysis of the senate bill finds that california could lose 30 billion a year by 2027 if it becomes law. The state department of Health Care Services says thats due to reductions in federal medicaid funding. More than 13 million californians use medical. Younger people who get insurance through covered california would see out of pocket costs decline but older people could see their costs double. The time is now 7 15. Beginning this saturday, the state of california will stop suspending drivers licenses because you didnt pay traffic tickets. Governor brown says this does not help the state collect those fines. Today is slightly better than usual traffic, sal. Makes up for what we had yesterday. Yesterday we had reasons for it. I think yesterday may have had a good day if we didnt have all of the crashes, gasia. I want to let you know that today the commute will be just moderate. 31minute drive according to the road sensor between the carquinez bridge and the macarthur maze. Not a bad drive. Slowing in richmond and el cerrito. Better in berkeley as you head out to the bay bridge toll plaza. Thats about a 25minute delay. We have crowding on the rams as well. The carpool lanes are moving nicely. This is interstate 880 in oakland. Traffic looks okay. Southbound 880 begins to slow in hey war. On the san mateo bridge, that traffic will be slow today. Today is a getaway day. Joining us now is chp officer wakefield to speak about the get away and also enforcement that chp is doing over the holiday weekend. Good morning, sean. Good morning, sal. How are you doing. Im very well. Thank you very much. I think a lot of people are going to be putting the roof rack on and getting the bags packed and getting on the road. What is the best advice that you have for someone who is going to be on the roads this weekend . D . Well, as we always say for holidays, youre going to need to pack your patience. We are expecting a lot of people to hit the road, especially the common destinations like lake tahoe. If youre heading that direction, packir patience and be ready for a long trip. That being said go ahead. I was going to say your officers dont take time off. I know it is a maximum enforcement period. Theyre out there looking for impaired drivers, speeders, people doing unsafe lane changes. Sometimes when you stop people you find unexpected things. Right . Yeah. Absolutely. And we sent you a photo back in 2015 on a simple traffic stop over a maximum enforcement period. We found boxes and boxes of fireworks. We never know what we will find on traffic stops. Friday through july 4th we will have extra officers out on the road looking for people causing trouble and we will look inside and see what we can find in your cars too. When we find boxes of fireworks, you will be in a load of trouble. We are looking at video of one of the Traffic Enforcement areas, like a safety check point. Those will be up for some agencies as well. Yes. I know a lot of our allied agencies will be doing enforcement over the weekend. We also try to highlight a specific type of enforcement. For the last maximum enforcement period we did seat belts. This one we will do speeding. I brought a radar gun out here with me to show what we do to catch speeders on the road. Speed is the number one cause of collisions. We use this device that shoots laser beams. A lot of people think if you see the cop on the shoulder you can slow down in time and we wont catch you speeding. This is an instant reading. It shoots a laser beam and tells us how fast youre going. Even if you have a detector, by the time that thing goes off, we already know how fast youre going. Just great. Im being a little sarcastic. It keeps people safe if theyre not speeding. The last question that i have for you is over the years have you seen an increase or decrease in the number of people driving drunk or speeding or all kinds of offenses . Are people becoming better drives or unfortunately worse drivers . You know, i dont think we have any clear trends going on right now. Last year during our maximum enforcement period, the chp made 1100dui arrests and we had 25 People Killed on the roadways during the same time period. Unfortunately holidays are a dangerous time out on the roads which is why we have extra officers out to patrol. Slow down and wear your seat belt. Always a pleasure, sean. Thank you for joining us. No problem. You heard the man, steve. There will be more, not fewer officers out there this weekend. Im staying home. There you go. There you go. Good advice, sal. Now that you interviewed him, he has to buy his fellow officers coffee much thats how it works. Or ice cream. Yes. Or ice cream. We have pretty foggy conditions out there. Be careful. Tioga pass, one of the main eastwest thoroughfares through yosemite will open this morning. This ties the latest opening going back to 1983. The record was july 1st, 1998. Lets see. We had 198283. Was that a wet year . Yes. And this year. There is a correlation. A lot of snow up there. A lot of snow. 76 in san jose. 79 today. That is two below average. Livermore 82. San francisco, 65 today. That is two below average. Now, that Sonoma County airport runs cooler closer to town. The fog is fanning out more so today over San Pablo Bay and the south bay as well. 50s on the temps and low 60s. Plenty of 40s northward. A few in marin county. San rafael was in there briefly. Hillsberg is in there. Windsor. I know glenn helen was 47. Bodega bay at 48. That is cool. Now were seeing low 50s. West southwest. Not that strong but a component of a delta breeze at the napa airport. Once the fog retreats and it will, High Pressure is building in for about today and tomorrow. Then a weak system will approach. That will send in slightly cooler temps. If youre far enough away from the coast, upper 70s to 80s. From 73 in berkeley to 93 in brentwood. 85 livermore. 79 san jose. 86 in gilroy. Cupertino 81. 60s on the coast. 74 san mateo. 79 woodside and palo alto. A little warmer on friday, gasia. And next weekend slightly cooler. Thank you. You may have seen safe and sane fireworks on sale for the fourth of july. Theyre not legal in most cities. We will sit down ask talk to a fire captain about the dos and donts when it comes to fireworks safety. Do you have an invention that youre hoping to sell . Walmart may be able to help.
