Join Energy Upgrade california and do your thing. Tomorrow eight on ktvu. The new episode of brookyln nine 9 heirs and this one takes on the issue of Police Officers and racial profiling characters played by terry crews is front and center. He joins me live on ktvu mornings on 2. I love the show its a funny show. Usually it is an office thing and people make fun of each other but this is different. Explain how. Good morning. It is different i always feel like comedy is the best place to take on serious subjects because it allows you to really open up and see a subject in a different way. Terry, my character is looking for his daughters toy in his own neighborhood and gets racially profiled and when the cop finds out that Terry Jeffers is a cop himself he let them go but the problem becomes whether he should have done that or not. My character decides i need to file a complaint and i need the captain to be on my side but the dramatic thing is, he does not want me to complain. He does not want to be said anything about it. It brings a new conversation into racial profiling drama is that what do you do Police Officers within the department feel about this. As an africanamerican Police Officer on the show, i have to decide whether i am blue or black. It is really, really cool because they based this on racial profiling incidents that have occurred in my life, terry crews. Im going to ask about that but do you think in a lot of police precincts, cops are urging other cops like they urge her character on the tv show, you know what, let it go. We are all cops. We should stick up for each other. How much do think that goes on in real life . I think it happens a lot. Not only with racial profiling, it happens with a lot of Different Things at the workplace where people are told to maybe you should look the other way because it might hurt your career somewhere down the line and its always something we have to say, wait a minute, but, if we look the other way, its just going to continue to happen. And its a cool conversation which i think is timely and awesome but dealing with it in comedy, it allows a way to see that you wouldnt see it in the news. You are a former nfl player and wellknown, when you talk about racial profiling happening to you, did happen before you were known, did it happen more recently, does that make a difference in your eyes . If a Police Officer pulled you over, he might say, hey, youre the guy from tb and let you go. Is that what happened . I have a perfect example. I was on a flight from chicago to san diego. And i got pulled off of the flight in front of everyone by the police because they thought i was a drug dealer simply because i paid for my ticket in cash. They found out that i was an nfl Football Player and they wanted my autograph. It totally flipped. And they let me go. When i got back on that plane, all i could think about was if i had not been an nfl player, if i was just on this airplane to see my mom or do whatever, would i have been arrested. Would i have been detained. What kind of problem would i have to get out of . Theres so many things in questions that really occur that way. It is really wild. I was somewhat famous or somewhat popular at that time being a professional athlete. But i didnt get what i would call the normal treatment, the treatment everybody else gets. And that shocked me. The show with you and andy samburg, and he is a native and we love him here in the bay area. Its very funny but when you bring in this particular issue into the show, do you think the people who ordinarily wouldnt be looking for Something Like this are going to get educated. In other words, you are watching a comedy maybe to take your mind off of something and now you are dealing with a serious issue. My thing is, again, with comedy, that is the point, it is a very, very funny episode and its a very emotional, but it is not uncomfortable. Brooklyn ninenine never goes uncomfortable. Its going to be where it opens up new questions. The same thing when you look at our precinct and other subjects weve dealt with in the past whether diversity, homophobia, all of these things are always said in the context of the comedy. And that way i think it is really, really, it is setting us up for better and more in the future where we can deal with even heavier subjects. But in a funny way. Thank you for joining us to congratulations on your success after playing football, i really like the show. Looking forward to it tomorrow night on ktvu. Thank you, south. Thank you, terry. Paid cash and they thought he was drug dealer. Interesting interview, good show. I like to show. They are tackling the subject. Most ruthless ambitious monsters got together to reminisce about their most cast and crew the film the godfather gathered in new york city at the tribeca Film Festival robert de niro, al pacino, robert of all, james conn, diane keaton and Francis Ford Coppola with there. Famed, frame portrait i should say of the late Marlon Brando Marlon Brando actors say they were honored Francis Ford Coppola asked them to act. Have not seen in 30 years Something Like that and i looked at one and all i can think of is i could not get over it. It was astonishing. It was so beautiful. Everybody is so great and the music is so every choice you made was so authentically brilliant. [ applause ]. Its unusual. Tribeca Film Festival also streamed the original film as well as godfather 2. My favorite film of all time. I saw it for the first time six month ago. You gave me your dvd. And i said, you need to see it. I know you dont necessarily always take my recommendations. For example, you will not watch top gun. No. I will let that one go. Good. If you watch the godfather, are you happy you did . I am. Its brilliant as diane keaton said it was and i more in tune with the American Public now, 40 plus years later. I love this next story a classic show Love Connection which is back with a new host and a brandnew twist. We do something they didnt do in the original we scored each other based on the first impressions. I asked for james bond and they gave me bill gates. My favorite, andy cohen host the show. Much like the original, reboot take the person looking for love sets them up on three dates in this new version, the audience will pick the best match. And the dater can take 10,000 home if he or she goes with the choice. Love connection with andy cohen premiers right here on ktvu fox 2 may 25. Whats wrong with bill gates .
