Two new reports about crime on Public Transit systems in San Francisco. They show a different trend. That they do. Ktvus christian kafton is live at a station outside of bart about how passengers feel riding bart versus muni. Good morning. Reporter as you might imagine, passengers will have a lot to say. We are on market street. If you take a look, we are at the montgomery station. Bart and muni carry hundreds of thousands of passengers. While crime on muni is trending down, bart riders are dealing with a surge in robberies. Bart riders followed recent high profile crimes where dozens of teens robbed a bart train, seven passengers at once. An overall increase in robberies for the first three months of 2017 compared to last year. Bart stresses that overall crime is low with 1. 6 robberies per 1 million trips. This morning bart says the overall crime has been trending down the last two years. While there has been a recent spike in theft of Electronic Devices, bike thefts and other crimes are down. Crimes on muni are trending down at a fouryear low. The Transit Agency is partially crediting the hashtag keep them safe ad Campaign Making sure that workers are safe. Now, despite the fact that crime rates are trending down, they are not making the target for crime reduction. Overall muni riders give the agency a b minus rating for safety. We will talk to some passengers this morning hoping to get a sense on how they feel. This is a hot topic for anybody that uses bart or muni. A lot of us do. Chief deputy coroner daryl harris has been arrested on four counts of child molestation. The newspaper says the alleged crimes happened between may of 2008 and march of 2017 with girls between the ages of 14 and 17 years old. The cases are being investigated by the Santa Rosa Police department because of his ties to marin. He worked for marin county since 2003. He is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow. Police in concord are investigating the suspicious death of a homeless man after finding his body yesterday. Investigators say someone called a report of an unconscious man in the shrubs near a chuck e. Cheese restaurant. Police closed a lane of willow pass road as a Crime Scene Investigative Team combed the area for evidence. Detectives are checking with nearby businesses hoping to get Surveillance Footage that might help them piece together what happened. Some new information on a 22yearold man shot by Sonoma State Police officers early friday morning. Authorities say the man is in Critical Condition after undergoing surgery. It happened as bars were shutting down. It started after four women came up to police and told them a man pointed a gun at them as they tried to break up a fight between a man and a woman. Shortly after police heard gunshots. They didnt find the suspect. A few hours later an officer saw a man matching the description of the suspect walking out of a creek bed. Investigators say the officers tried to tase him but ended up shooting him twice. San diego police are not releasing the name of a 15year old student shot and killed by officers early yesterday. Investigators say the boy called 911 and asked for police to check on the welfare of an unarmed student at Torrey Pines High School before 3 30 yesterday morning. When they arrived, the boy pulled out an air pistol. They ordered him to drop the gun. He continued to walk toward them with the gun and both officers fired their guns killing the students. Students say they heard the boy say he wanted police to kill him. I dont know what the student was going through. It could be a combination of a lot of different pressures. School is clicky. Tomorrow the school will provide counseling for all students, staff and parents who feel they need help coping with the students death. Its 7 17. The group had a simple mission. Inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold. The organizers say they hope this helps young girls from oakland understand that anything is possible. It felt like a rock concert complete with screaming girls who couldnt believe their eyes [ singing ] jordan fisher who started hamill ton was performing just for them. It was really cool. I got to meet jordan fisher. I loved him for a long time, ever since did you tell him that . I didnt get a chance. My heart was racing. Oh, my gosh. I need my phone now. He didnt come alone. Can we coax you into singing a few bars from the soundtrack . Reporter there was a talk and impromptu performance. [ singing ] reporter it was according to the girls a once in a lifetime experience. A chance to get up close and personal with people they have watched on the big screen. You want a hug . Sorry. Sorry. She photo bombed your interview. Im fine with it. 75 girls from local middle schools and high schools gathered for the vent. What is your favorite thing to do when you are back home with time off . Reporter the ceo of girls inc said planning took months. The majority of the girls we serve are girls of color and low income. So, it means a lot to have a place like this where services or free and they have an opportunity to experience things that are beyond their wildest dreams. Thats what this appearance and performance was about. On any other day this stage is replaced by a space for free programs for academics, leadership, field trips and mentoring. I struggle in reading. This helps with that. Me and my mom discussed and figure its the best choice to help me grow as an individual person. What are the challenges that you see that face these girls . They have a number of challenges. Some of them include access to resources and opportunities. One of the challenges we think about is literacy. At an early level, a lot of the girls are not reading at grade level by third grade. With our intervention they are three times as likely to read at grade level. When they are ready for college at the end of high school, a third of girls in oakland are not actually graduating from high school let alone the girls not going on to college. Through our College Access program, all of our seniors graduated from high school and 100 go off to college. Wow. Right. Reporter 97 of the girls in that program that went to college last year were the first in their family to do that. Its all part of an effort that both stars said they wanted to recognize. There is so much more that they will accomplish. Its not what they can. Its what they are going to. Feel i had no idea that this future was ahead of me and there is so much for them. The world has so many opportunities for them that are just waiting. Waiting for this to happen. Reporter they are more alike than different and celebrities are just like everyone else. When i take off the fake lashes, i am completely normal. I still have to do my school work. When we take off our makeup at the end of the day, we are the same. Working with famous people is awesome but they are really just people. I am jordan fisher. I am a human being. I have great days, not so great days. Thats what makes me who i am. Stepping away from today, if there is one thing that i hope somebody one person that is moved in this way can grasp is the fact that the thing that i do and the thing that i am blessed enough to do every day is a tangible thing that you can do should you really want to do.
