Mill valley received six inches of rain. We were almost dry days ago, this, the Russian River, prompting some advisories in the north bay, a Flash Flood Watch that was supposed to expire two hours ago has been extended until 9 00 tonight. . The sierra winter storm warning is in effect until 4 00 tomorrow morning. Kristina and katie have been out in the elements, we begin are our meteorologist, mark tomio with mosh more on the Flash Flood Watch. Rainfall totals adding up over the sequence of days across Northern California. Especially north bay. As you can see, remember we were talking about the system back on wednesday and thursday and rainfall totals in fact since thursday. They are adding up. Santa rosa, over 6 inches. Richmond, same deal and out toward concorde and San Francisco adding up as well over three inches of rainfall. As you mentioned, the Flash Flood Watch extended for parts of the north bay, for marine, sonoma county, rainfall has been picking up over the past hour. We see there u thaw on the radar and there you can see the coverage for San Francisco and right around san raphael and richmond. Here is the wider perspective, around sonoma county, light to moderate. All of the action has been moving out to the east. Out toward brentwood, livermore, one cell outside of livermore around livermore producing rainfall rates a third of an inch an hour as we come in tighting. Take a closer inspection of all of the activity in this region. Difficult travel on 580, right now, there is the radar loop, once moving rapidly across the bay. About an hour ago toward the Golden Gate Bridge in the east bay and inland valleys and off shore, upstream, the final stage of our system. It was flowing about 40 cubic feet per second, a mere trickle, but by today, 9,000 cubic feet per second. The most important picture we have seen yet. I dont think this is enough rain, yet. The reason we are seeing flooding across the north bay, im told that the ground is the dryest it has been in 120 years. So, simply the rain cannot saturate into the ground quick enough. Its water may be one mans hobby, but its another ones headache in mill valley. This is a business killer. Its something when the tide coincides with the heavy rains, we get the flooding. Reporter water is collecting outside of a handful of businesses intread of draining to a creek that is full. The Business Owners say they stand to lose thousands today and tomorrow, they say it will be a waiting game to determine whether or not they will open. As far as electricity goes, cruises will be working to restore any elicoricety that has been out in affected areas. Rain has made for a slow and dangerous weekended on bay area roads. It happened at 3 35 this morning on brandon lane. Only one vehicle was involved. The red one on the back of the tow truck. Three people were inside, all of them taken to the hospital where one person was declared dead. Police have not released the identity of those involved. San jose police say an officer shot and wounded a man accused of stealing a car. A man was carrying a shotgun outside of a home and demanding that someone inside give him the keys to a vehicle. After a short vehicle chase, officers confronted the man on white road. Thats where an officer fired his weapon and hit the man at least one. Police describe the mans wounds as serious, but not life threatening. Oakland police are investigating a homicide on a 69yearold woman. Police say she died 10 50 saturday morning at a home on 103rd avenue near plymouth street. Authorities have not released the victims name or the cause of her death. Turning back to our storm watch coverage. This weekends rain has exposed a new problem on the new bay bridge. Turns out it leaks. The large storm is sending rain into places on the 6. 4 billion bridge where it shouldnt be, reporter it was tough to see the road on the bay bridge this morning. Over the weekend a problem underneath the road became very visible to caltrans engineers. We have found some leaks. We are still determining how many. Reporter since friday, engineers have been working to pinpoint the source of the leak. They appear to be along the barrier well. The concern is that water is getting into the rail and it is dripping down on the bolts that connect the barrier well to the road deck. It has been having prims all along. Its not new. Reporter caltran officials came under fire earlier this year for problems with bolts in the new eastern span. Drivers this morning wonder what may be wrong with the 6 billion project. Everything will have issues at first. Gordon said core corrosion shouldnt be a problem, it has a protective coating inside. This is water. This is you weatherwise it the best you can. Drivers agree. Everything needs like a test run, i think, in and we havent had rain in so long. Im not really worried about it. Reporter caltran said a team of engineers will be taking a closer look this afternoon.
