Reporter what really came through tonight is that each candidate repeated their familiar campaign slogans, but they both also talked about unity and fighting for all americans. Right now on the east coast it is already election day. The first votes were cast at midnight in the tiny town of dixville notch, New Hampshire. Eight residents voted. Each state has a number of electorals that are equal to the number of senators and representatives in that state. Those electors, they will cast their ballots next month in december based on the popular vote in their state. The system was devised by the Founding Fathers who were nervous about their direct election. There have been times in American History and gore, bush was a popular vote secured by the candidate who didnt end up being president because it is all about Electoral College votes. Technically speaking it is possible for an electorrer to win against their state. But as they tell us it will be highly unlikely and unprecedented. The latino vote could be a game change nor this election. They join people of all backgrounds to phone banks at a San Jose Church today. If projetions are right as many as 15 million could cast ballots this year according to the 11. 2 million who voted four years ago. The numbers show a surge of latinos in key battleground states including florida, georgia, and north carolina. I think that it shows that it matters that we matter and that our communities are really rising. That we were told that we were the Sleeping Giant that were not sleeping anymore. Were getting out to vote and making sure that were voting for candidates, but that were also voting for measures and propositions that matter to our families. Analysts say as many as five million californians have cast ballots in early voting. We saw lines of people at San Francisco city hall today. A majority of the states 19 million individual terped voters are expected to vote by mail, but that still means millions will head to the polls tomorrow. Long lines formed in the south bay as voters showed up to cast the ballots there. One of six places where Santa Clara County voters could vote early in person. Ktvu Azenith Smith is live in san jose. Election officials are expecting an 85 voter turnout there . Reporter yes. Its a big turnout. And that is why workers are actually inside for the first time processing ballots before election day. They started at 8 00 this morning. I wanted to show you this is the longest ballot in Santa Clara County history my ballot. Its three cards. So you can imagine the cards that we have to go through. Voters tell me too much is at stake not to vote. Tonight hundreds of voters are working around the clock as a lastminute rush of early voters cast their ballots. The line to vote today was long at times out the door. There are a lot of issues that need to be solved. So i dont usually vote in a major election, but this time im going to be voting. This is a very, very momentous occasion for her and a big day. Turnout so far for the november election looks like it will be at least four times the early voting turnout weve had in june. Reporter the Registrars Office says that 330,000 people have voted in Santa Clara County 45 of the mailin ballots issued. Voters casting their votes not only for president , but in Santa Clara County the highly contentious 17th district congressional race. Several key measures that address Affordable Housing and transportation. San jose pension reform with the police force as we caught up with the san jose mayor reaching out to voters at the station. A woman ran over her estrange husband with her car and companion and then drove to the benicia bridge where she jumped to her death. The initial crash sent people scrambling for safety. Reporter yeah ken. Pounding on the drivers window trying to get her to stop. It was a chaotic scene here in the Downtown Court center. You can see the markings on the pavements where the victims were thrown and Surveillance Video actually shows that driver beforehand parked and waiting to mow three people down. I heard a big noise and right away i ran over here. Reporter this construction worker whipped out his phone and started recording from a rooftop where he had a birds eye view. All day the police was three minutes. Everybody ran over here. The people were laying on the ground. I mean it was bloody. They couldnt even move. I know they were going through some sort of divorce hearings. Reporter Martinez Police say two men and a woman were sent flying by a ford focus that rammed them in a crosswalk. Moments before the driver had been in family court with the three. Her estrange husband, his lawyer, and a woman who she backed up and struck twice. She was in court with them and then what were believing will make an intentional act to hit three people. We have details of her reversing and possibly running over someone again. Reporter the driver sped off. 20 minutes later reports of the same car on the Benicia Martinez bridge. Less than three miles away. Looks like she is hitting the Center Median as well as the wall and ends up parking, comes out of her vehicle and jumps over the bridge. Plunging more than 100 feet to her death. Witnesses told chp that before jumping that the driver veered side to side as if to crash over the wall. So we dont know if the vehicle she was trying to take it off the bridge and to have both go and maybe she was unsuccessful. The bailiff said there were no outbursts, no indications of the violence that would follow. Surveillance video shows the woman exiting court moving her car into position to wait for the victims to leave. There is a lot that will go behind those closed doors. Hes been out of these proceedings for a decade. And i always tell people that before you get married that you should spend a day or two at the family courthouse, just to see what it is like on the other side. Reporter given how premeditated that this hit and run was that it is lucky the victims survived. The whole windshield was caved in and cracked. There could have been more than one that hit that windshield. Reporter all three of the victims are expected to recover. The driver we understand, shes local, 60 years old. An oakland couple is charged with murder in the death of a volunteer with the Alameda County sheriffs office. Laura rodgers and her boyfriend Curtys Taylor were charged with killing karla ramirez. The 21yearold victim was beaten and stabbed and her body was burned and left in an oakland park last thursday. Prosecutors say that Laura Rodgers lawyer had planned that killing for several days. Investigators say that the two women knew each other and that the attack was not related to the victims work with the sheriffs office. In the meantime homicide investigators in Sonoma County are looking for what could be a key piece of evidence in the killing of 18yearold kirk kimberly, his bike. Its a white mens 2011 cannon dale quick Mountain Bike recently installed road tires with reflective material built into the side walls. Kimberlys body was found last kirk kimberlys body was found last wednesday. Authorities say he had been stabbed several times. Kimberly lived in cotati.
