Bryce who . What a shocking upset and doing the floor of the forest fire that we thought were out to kind it in extra innings with a grand of reflash and go one level slam, a great catch by taylor in the end. That was really something. Outside of that to give turkey a and now we have green light to invade a country cardinals nationals matchup for is inviting a collision between, the National League championship you know, kind of ancient series. Howie kendrick, the name empires. Howie kendrick will go down to this is the ottoman empire, the washington history. Hes the guy that hit the grand slam in the tenth inning last turks, charging into what was night. The dodgers who had 106 wins once the arab caliphate this season, the most dominate surrounded by the persians. Team by far in the National League, a lot of people had so this is iran being very, very welcome into a big playing penciled them into the world series. They threw walker buhler, he was field. Fourth and finally the last point i want to make in terms of great. Then they bring in clayton alliances, alliances are kershaw, one of the best unbelievably hard. Pitchers who ever lived, he gives up a couple of home runs. As the supreme allied commander the nationals come back. In nato, i kind of orchestrated back to back. On consecutive pitches. 28 nato militaries and another and then in the tenth inning. And you saw on the second 30 nonnato allies in the war in home run he just crouches over, afghanistan. He knows the second its hit it is like 55 moving parts. Everyone has a different agenda, that its gone. Yet in the end the sum is so and then in the tenth inning just fireworks. Much greater than the whole of Howie Kendrick hits the grand slam that will become part of the parts. Alliances are hugely washington lure. And now they move on. Theyve got a great shot. Advantageous but theyre they have a better record and enormously difficult. Theyre easy to break, and a that st. Louis. St. Louis won their division so lesson like this will the series will be in st. Louis. But the nationals have i reverberate globally for a very dont know if theyre the long time. Coming up, President Trump favorites, but theyre at least turns the dignified transfer of an even shot to go to the world series. Good for washington and for the fallen american troops into a nationals. Yeah. Political talking point. And you look over in the american league, we didnt really talk about it a whole that shameful display is next on lot, but tampa, man, what a morning joe. Shock. Yeah. I was expecting the as to win the wildcard and move forward. Tampas been a real surprise and so that game tonight of course will have a big impact on who plays your yankees. Yeah, its going to be tough. Theyre playing in houston but anything can happen in one of these deciding games. Houston has gerrit cole pitching at home. Hes been dominate all season. As a yankee fan were rooting hard for the rays, not just because we avoid the astros, but because the series would start in new york on saturday. But we begin with yet another poll showing a big jump in and now you can get it on our newest, most powerful signal. Support for President Trumps no signal reaches farther or is more reliable. Impeachment. This time its latest fox news get 4 new lines of unlimited poll in which 51 of voters for just 30 bucks a line. Support the impeachment inquiry and trumps removal from office. Thats up nine points since last month. 43 do not down seven points. Those that support the impeachment probe include 13 of republicans, 39 of independents and 85 of democrats. More than half, 51 said that the Trump Administration is more corrupt, up five points from Liberty Mutual customizes your Car Insurance, so you only pay for what you need. Last mine. 27 said its less corrupt, and i wish i could shake your hand. Granted. 18 said its about the same. Twothirds of voters polls said only pay for what you need. It was inappropriate for trump liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. To ask foreign leaders to investigate his rivals. 25 said they believed it was appropriate. When happened about what trump said on the call with ukraines president , 43 called it an Impeachable Offense. 27 agreed it was inappropriate but not impeachable. And 17 said the conversation was appropriate. Finally, almost half of voters, 48 , said the impeachment inquiry was trump getting what he deserved. 37 believed people are out to get him. Joe, these are important why . Well, theyre breathtaking, actually, is what they are for anybody observing politics. For donald trump, for people close to him in the white house, these are breathtaking numbers, theyre staggering numbers. These poll numbers are occurring at the same time they are raising hundreds of millions of dollars and spending tens of millions of dollars to burnish their image on television, in digital ads. That money is being burnt if the youre giving your money to donald trump right now, it literally going up in flames in these digital ads because the more they put out there, the more his numbers collapse and the more erratic he gets. Just going through these numbers, willie, 51 , a majority say that donald trump is more corrupt than past administrations. Of course 51 saying that he should be removed from office. This is a staggering number. Richard nixon went through two years of watergate before reaching that number. And now 51 saying he should be impeached and removed from office. Ive got to say, of course 66 so at that same event we were showing you yesterday where say that that call that donald trump said was perfect to the the president of the United States said the kurds werent with us at normandy and ukrainian president , they said it was wrong. Alliances were easy, he turned into a riff about greeting the twothirds of americans said it dignified remains of fallen was wrong. Service members when they come what about this final number to Dover Air Force base in that almost half of americans delaware. It is one of the most solemn responsibilities the president has. Here is the president talking say donald n in this fox news about that yesterday. I go to dover when i go, but poll say donald trump is getting what he deserves. It is it is so devastating and far less number of people for the parents that you actually clinging to their know, it is so devastating. Conspiracy theories that suggest when they when they bring that people are out to get trump. Bad news on all fronts from this that boy or young woman out of the back of those big, powerful fox news poll. Its a remarkable day, joe, when you go to fox news. Com, fox planes in a coffin and the news. Com and the creaming parents are there, you know, we headline is record support for have people that do that. Trump impeachment. Thats what they do. This is a fox news poll. As you point out correctly, this they work that. They accommodate everybody. Thats what they do. Isnt just support for the they do an incredible job. Impeachment inquiry, this is 51 they said i said, the parents of americans saying they support seem to be okay. Ill get there early. Donald trump being impeached and the parents seem to be okay. Removed from office in a fox news poll. Well, actually, sir, they there are a lot of polls,on arent. No, no, the way theyre talking, that, that the president theyre really okay, arent dismisses. They . Sir, you never know until the he cited incorrectly poll back of that massive cargo plane numbers that i wont repeat because they were so incorrect, opens up and they walk down but there is a growing body of evidence. There is a growing number of holding a coffin with four or polls that the president cant ignore that show a majority of americans believe he should be five great soldiers on each side removed from office. First of all, go astros. Of it representing our various forces. You wanted in on that. You never know, and then i see secondly, the white house is it and i see people that were keenly aware of these polls and we know the president is smiling, oh, mr. President , thank you for being here, thank particularly sensitive when one you for being here, and i think is from fox news. Theyre doing great. 20 minutes later we will be theyre krl a very reputable outside when the big plane pulls polster but he believes they up and the door comes down, and should be part of the fox news news operation which he has told they are walking the coffin with people around him and said on twitter that he thinks should be their boy inside this coffin, more or less working for him. But this shows you again the with an American Flag over the white house is just now sort of getting their hand around just top, and theyre walking that coffin down this ramp and i have how fast this story is moving and how dangerous it is to them. Seen people that i thought were they were caught flat footed really incredible, the way they after the word of the phone call were i didnt even understand came out. They thought releasing the how they could take it so well, transcript, the rough transcript, memo about the call might help. Every step theyve taken since scream like i have never seen to try to change the narrative has failed and much to the anything before. Sometimes theyll run to the coffin, theyll break through president s angs military barriers. They will run to the coffin and president s anger weve seen him explode time and time again. Hes frustrated. Jump on top of the coffin, hes angry at staff that they havent been able to change crying mothers and wives, crying anything. What weve seen this week is they finally have come forward desperately. With some sort of strategy, and so admiral stavritas, the thats to completely stonewall. That letter they sent to House Speaker pelosi a few days ago as president was talking about very little legal explanation. Bringing troops home. Experts we talked to said its he is defending his move, he not going to hold up probably wouldnt hold up in court, it wants to get out of the wars to prevent scenes like the one he cites cable news appearances more than case law. Is describing there like the dig but this is their attempt to stonewall, to fight, to try to make this to rally but let me interrupt you here file fi dignified remains at dover because i alluded to your article that you wrote i think it was on sunday when you talked air force base. It is a hurtful event in about the very things that three ways. One is that here is the donald trump did to get elected. The very things did he for the president effectively acting like a camera, describing in first 2 1 2 years of his presidency to help him survive scandals are now working against very emotional private detail him. This is this is a prime what happens there. It is inappropriate. Example when you have over 55, thats why we dont have cameras in situations like that. Secondly, it is kind of using 56, 58 of americans believing that the impeachment inquiry is that as a political prop to legitimate, according to abc news polls and wall street articulate policy decisions. It just doesnt feel right. Journal nbc news polls and the president stone walls it. Thirdly, it kind of feels like oh my gosh. Dragging the military, our one well, 58 of americans think hes stonewalling a legit may institution that is resolutely investigation. Nonpartisan, dragging it into you can see what he did yesterday. The maelstrom of politics. The attacks he received from republicans were without a doubt i dont think it was a good move the fiercest hes received since hes won the partys nomination on the part of the president , any more than having a back in the summer of 2016. Discussion at Arlington National you know, again, this is Donald Cemetery would be in terms of trump, hey, lets change the the politics of the moment. Subject, lets create another i dont think that is going to be well received and i dont controversy, one thats even think it was a very appropriate going to inflame people even level of communication about a more. And what happens, it just makes very solemn moment. Republicans turn on the man even retired four star navy more. I just i think youre really admiral james stavritas. On to something here that his the admiral has a new piece in this issue of Time Magazine traditional untraditional moves, entitled trump and the troops, actually, that have worked for him for the past 2 1 2 years an impulsive president shows no wont work now. Inclination to use the forces he this is the first time the man couldnt walk out on fifth celebrates. We look forward to having you back on the show on monday fon avenue, shoot somebody and get your new beak. Away with it because it seems that a majority of americans are admiral, thank you very much. We will talk more about this finally on to him. Thats right. With columnist Michael Weiss who thats exactly the point i was making here is that whats says the president s crazy syria happening is hes tried to change the story with whats move will wipe out americas happened in turkey and syria and allies and set up a big isis all thats done is alienate the people he needs most, republican comeback. Morning joe is coming right back. Morning joe is coming ri senators who actually control back his fate in their hands and his attempts to deflect, discredit, and attack the integrity of the investigation. Which was the key to his playbook during the Mueller Probe and key to his playbook for the investigations that House Democrats launched after they took control of that chamber. Thats not working right now. The American People are not buying it. They believe, as these polls reflect, that this is something thats worth pursuing, investigating and in that fox heres the thing about managing multiple clouds news poll perhaps sending him out of office. For your business. And right now the standard when youve got public clouds, tactics that hes used arent and private clouds, and hybrid clouds effective. Hes flailing and theyre going to have to come up with things can get a bit cloudy for you. Something else because all this does now is risk turning more but now, theres the Dell Technologies cloud, and more of both the public and potentially lawmakers against him. You know, were going to show powered by vmware. A single hub for a consistent operating experience rick tyler some screenshots of across all your clouds. Some of tweets from republicans, that should clear things up. Especially Lindsey Graham, but also from Eric Erickson and others who were looking at whats happening with donald pain happens. Saturdays happen. Trumps betrayal. Aleve it. Aleve is proven better on pain than tylenol. Others that usually you can count on to defend donald trump when pain happens, aleve it. And if not at least defending all day strong. Outright certainly then to take super emma just about sleeps in her cape. But when we realized she was battling sensitive skin, an antiantitrump post. We switched to tide pods free gentle. Yesterday that was completely its gentle on her skin, stripped away and you had eric and dermatologist recommended. Republicans, republicans in his thats what you get own party who have feared a when youve got wayfair. So shop now tweet from him in the past, they Liberty Mutual customizes your Car Insurance, hmm. Exactly. Are now blaming him for isis so you only pay for what you need. Nice. But, uh. Whats up with your. Partner . Resurgence saying you are not again. Limu thats your reflection. Responsible for the resurgence of isis and the blood of isis only pay for what you need. Will be on your hands. Liberty, liberty, liberty, liberty its remarkable. I mean there are to stand up against the president on. And perhaps it is because some of these poll numbers and the poll that the number that sticks out to me is the 48 getting what he deserves. You mention that the poll but some give their clients cookie cutter portfolios. Numbers have moved rapidly recently, and that is true. Fisher investments tailors portfolios to your goals and needs. In nixon it took two years. Some only call when they have something to sell. But i would put a thread through the whole thing. Fisher calls regularly so you stay informed. A conventional president , if and while some advisors are happy to earn commissions they had just been through two years of investigation about whether you do well or not. Fisher investments fees russian interference, which a are structured so we do better when you do better. Bipartisan Senate Committee is maybe thats why most of our clients now once again confirmed, you would think a normal president come from other money managers. Would avoid any appearance of fisher investments. Clearly better money management. Trying to get a foreign power to interfere in an election. Yet, thats precisely what he did. And now hes in deep trouble on that and it is, in my view, an Impeachable Offense whether he gets impeached or not or convicted thats another story. What does he do . He splits the Republican Coalition by betraying the kurds. And now i cant resist but mentioning yesterday that he actually suggested that the kurds deserve this because they didnt help us in normandy. Im sure thats probably true because the kurds didnt bring their naval fleet to help us with the invasion of normandy. You know, its just its just a remarkable thing. But, look, i am glad to see the republicans coming out strongly against the president s betrayal of the kurds. But i just cant help this some things are too important to do yourself. Lingering feeling of too little get customized security too late. With 24 7 monitoring from xfinity home. Well, well you know, mika, let me let awarded the best professionally installed system by cnet. Me say it for you, mika, so you simple. Easy. Awesome. Call, click or visit a store today. Dont have to. You look at what the president s been doing, you look at his actions over the past several months, you look at his tweets, you look at some really disturbing video that were they should go back, by the going to be showing later on talking about when he meets way. They should go back to europe. Grieving families. Many of them came from europe, and let me just say it is but they should go back to what every single germany, to france, some to uk republican knows. Actually, but they came from what every republican on capitol various parts of europe. They didnt come from our hill knows. Donald trump is not well. Country. Theyre citizens in many cases of those countries, france, Donald Trumps not emotionally germany. They didnt want to take em fit to be president , republicans, and you know it. Back. I gave em one chance. Hes not mentally fit to be i gave them another chance. I gave them a third chance, and president of the United States i even gave them a fourth right now and you know it. Chance. They didnt want to take them back. There are allies that sacrificed not that i blame them too much. Theyre used to this with the their lives, sacrificed their United States, taking advantage of the United States. Well, theyre going to be everything for us who are on the escaping to europe. Thats where they want to go. Run this morning who are they want to go back to their bleeding out, who are dying homes but europe didnt want them from us. But as usual it is not because donald trump decided on reciprocal. A whim to release them. You know my favorite work, reciprocal. It is not a fair deal for the there are women and children once again in danger of being United States. President trump says hes not worried about the fate of isis raped and brutalized and prisoners who could be set free as a result of his decision to tortured by isis. Allow turkey to attack the Group Donald Trump suggests that we can just let isis go and they guarding them since in his view can go back there are so many the terrorists just want to go back to their homes in europe. Disturbing things, mika, it is more obvious than ever donald those roughly 12,000 isis fighters currently are being held in Detention Centers by the trump is neither emotionally or mentally fit to be president of the United States. Kurdish Syrian Democratic forces. For the pentagon of those isis that is without debate if the captives, 2,000 are foreign really is. Just look at all the actions fighters while remaining 10,000 over the past several weeks and are iraqi and syrian. The kurdish commander in charge it just keeps getting worse. Says guarding isis prisoners and the consequences are growing captured during the u. S. Grimmer by the day. Campaign is now a, quote, second every moment. Any republican that keeps priority to defending against the turkish assault. Coauthor of the bestselling donald trump in office, every republican that allows him to book isis, inside the army of remain commander and chief, terror Michael Weiss. They, like donald trump, own the a columnist for the new beast. His article titled trumps resurgence of isis. Crazy syria move will wipe out they, like donald trump, own the collapse of longtime alliances. Americas allies and set up a donald trump said alliances were big isis come back. It is all there in your piece, easy yesterday. You know what . But what happens in terms of an theyre not. They are back breaking work. Isis come back and how do the they are extraordinary work. President make such a miscalculation unilaterally . Isis has been planning for a mika, your father knew that as well as anybody in his while this prison break. The important thing to note is theyve been good in doing this generation. In the past. In the leadup to the takeover alliances like trade wars are of mosul there was a coordinated hard. But we have a president that campaign to spring essentially doesnt understand that and veteran jihadist from iraqi because that every day americans and their closest allies are prisons called breaking the suffering. Well, one of these walls. A communicate kion was saying t consequences is our next piece here. Should be our focus right now. Three days after President Trump we cannot do a caliphate or agreed to pull back u. S. Troops control terrain but we can break from Northern Syria, turkey confederates out of prisons and launched air strikes, fired ar use them to wage terrorist attacks. The isis detainees are not held ti tillry and began a ground offensive against u. S. Kurdish by the United States but by sdf fighters it views as terrorists in detention facilities south of in the region. The purported invasion line. Minutes after turkish jets began in other words turkey is not pounding the suspected positions going to come and take over the of Syrian Kurdish forces, prisons. The problem is sdf said were turkeys president announced the sending our fighters north to offensive in a tweet outlining a fight turkey, in other words mission to prevent the creation of a terror corridor across weakening the security corridor in southern syria. Turkeys southern border and to thats the danger. Bring peace to the region. President trump released a statement saying the u. S. Does i not endorse the attacks and, ic isis will attempt to take quote, has made it clear to turkey that this operation is a advantage of that. It leaves them less guarded bad idea. And more vulnerable to prison but, a Senior Adviser to turkish president erdogan said that breaks. President trump and president right. If baghdadis campaign is erdogan, quote, have reached an successful, all of the isis fighters are out of prisons, understanding of precisely what what happens from there . Isis is a regeneration this operation is. And heres how President Trump project, assuming that the defended a decision that many prisoners would remain see as abandoning the kurds. Indefinitely in prison or the kurds are fighting for exported to iraq or wherever, their land, just so you will have to rely on the next understand. Theyre fighting for their land. And as somebody wrote in a very, very powerful article today, generation, in other words recruiting those who grow up in they didnt help us in the the refugee camps. Breaking the guys out of prison second world war, they didnt means everybody that fought help us in normandy as an fiercely from 2014 onwards, example. In addition to that, we have people with not only battle spent freeh tremendous amounts field military capability but of money on helping the kurds in the intelligence trade craft, terms of ammunition, in terms of these are the worst of the weapons, in terms of money, in worse, thats why baghdadi wants terms of pay. With all of that being said, we these guys out. They fought with him for years like the kurds. In some cases. Jonathan, i would sprinkle in and let you go to michael that kurds helped the u. S. Defeat Prime Minister netanyahu of isis and by allowing this israel has put on a statement offensive, is it going to be saying we effectively stand with more difficult in future times the kurds, not directly criticizing President Trump but of need to develop alliances . Saying we are with the kurds and we think the invasion by turkey no. It wont be. It wont be at all. Is a terrible thing. Alliances are very easy. But you know our alliances have certainly the Prime Minister is reluctant to create daylight taken advantage of us. If you look at how much money we between himself and president spend on nato and how much money trump except on this issue. Two things on that. First, the president yesterday countries from europe who are acknowledged when asked about really a much bigger beneficiary the isis fighters being freed he than we are, okay, theyre there said, they would go to europe as opposed to the United States. And were here, were many miles right. Walk us through what that away, our alliances in many could mean but to willies point the idea of trumps decision cases have taken tremendous advantage of us. If you look at nato, i got them straining or breaking alliances that have been so important in to pay 100 billion more. Keeping isis at bay. So, first part, i actually out of the 28 countries, 20 of read that as a threat. Them are delinquent. This is a president who keeps you know what delinquent means, banging on about people not doing their fair share. Thats an old real estate term. Europe is not carrying its hes delinquent with his rent. Weight in this campaign. Theres a legitimate criticism theyre delinquent with their to that, but for him to say it payment. They owe us a tremendous amount of money and they never pay us is not an American Security consideration because these bad back. They owe us hundreds and jihadists are going to europe to blow things up, i see it as hundreds of billions of dollars. I dont look at that time that trump saying, you know what . Way. My god. You know, willie, there was deadbeats get suicide bombers now. By the way, president erdogan such foolishness there. Came out and said something you could look at certain times similar. He said if europe objects to the that mark meadows face in the occupation we will let the isis background and the humiliation terrorists go back to europe. I dont need to watch the he felt being there with the president. Of course hell have to deny irishman on netflix, i got that if he is asked today. But he was feeling it when the enough of President Trump and president said alliances are the president of turkey make easy. Mark meadows doesnt think what the kurds did was easy. Mafiastyle threats to others. The decision did not need to be mark meadows doesnt think that the kurds fighting to defeat undertaken. Isis was easy, sacrificing it claims it was not a green thousands of their lives, having light. Yes, it was. He has been tweeting justifying their families blown to pieces the turkish incursion on the to defeat isis. Ground. America, time to withdraw from the middle east. He said that kurds werent at however, the seeds of the normandy. Confrontation between turkey its such a foolish, idiotic we use the word kurds loosely and it shouldnt be the kurds. Statement that i know mark meadows and others have to be it is a specific military ashamed this morning to be organization, the pkk, or in affiliated with donald trump. Syria as it is known the ypg. They wont say it publicly, but they are. Thats how turkey considers a and the president , again, saying National Security threat. From the beginning of the things there that just show he antiisis campaign in 2014 the is unfit to be americas United States cast about for a commander and chief. Reliable, trustworthy ally that well, mark meadows will be in would only focus on isis. The former commander of the u. S. That snapshot of history yesterday and hell be in Many Coalition Campaign Said in the others. Hell have to live with that. Atlantic there werent other but when you listen to the people we could rely on to fight president say that the kurds isis, it is that they wanted to werent there for us storming the beaches of normandy, your fight hezbollah, the assad first instinct is to laugh at regime and a consortium of other the absurdity of the comment until you get to how deadly fighters, but pkk was solely serious that it is. Dedicated to fighting isis. He said were not supporting they aligned with the United States for their own political them so im going to Say Something about them i read on motives. Turkey hast been completely the internet yesterday. These kurds are dying right now beside itself from the beginning, threatening to do as we speak, the latest tally is exactly what it has just done, 16 kurds have been killed as the and they continue to point to turks have moved across the what they consider american border. There was some heartbreaking and hypocrisy. The United States, the eu has infuriating reporting from fox designated the pkk as a terror organization, as have we, news, a National Security meaning ankara. Correspondent yesterday there. Jennifer griffin talking to a in 2012 Hillary Clinton gave a press conference in front of the special forces operator, an american who said for the first foreign minister of turkey in time in his career he was which she said the United States will not allow Northern Syria to ashamed because he fought side by side with the kurds and now become a terrorist, quote, had to step aside and watch them unquote, haven for the pkk. Die effectively because of a the turks point to this and say, unilateral order given by the america, we have given you your chance, we are out of patience, president. Yeah, this is heartrending is this what were going to do. Again, trump saying, thats it, for anybody who has shed blood, you can do whatever you want was a huge strategic mistake. Who has deployed forward. We are seeing it play out, the consequences right now live im getting so many inputs from pictures from syria on the all around the military from screen as we speak. Exactly people like that. Michael weiss, thank you very typically special force who much for being on the show this morning. Thanks, michael. Uhhuh. Develop these very personal this piece of news before we bonds with those they fight take our last break. With, with their translators. They see their families, they go more than a dozen prominent conservative lawyers, many of have tea with them. Whom worked for republican they know how this hurts at a very personal level. And, you know, lets kind of do administrations, have banded together to call for a, quote, this from the inside out. Its not only the betrayal of expeditious impeachment probe into President Trump. The kurds, it is the way it is nbc news has obtained an early going allow those emers bers on copy of the joint statement to be released later this morning, which makes the quote floor of the forest fire that we undisputed case that trump thought were out to kind of violated his oath of office by reflash and go one level outside calling for foreign nations to of that to give turkey a green investigate a political light to invade a country, it is opponent. The Statement Reads in part quote, we have not just a inviting a collision between, political candidate open to you know, kind of ancient receiving foreign assistancbettn empires. This is the otto monman, the tu election, but a current president openly and privately calling on Foreign Governments to actively interfere in the surround by the persians. Most sacred of our u. S. So this is iran being very, very democratic processes, our welcome into a big playing field. And then fourth and finally, the elections. The lawyers argue, quote, these last point i want to make in terms of alliances, alliances acts, based on what has been revealed to date, are a are unbelievably hard, as the legitimate basis for an supreme allied commander in nato expeditious impeachment i kind of orchestrated 28 nato investigation, vote in the house of representatives, and potential trial in the senate. Militaries and another 30 the group of 16 conservative lawyers includes George Conway, husband to white house nonnatoal lies in the war in advance. Counsellor kellyanne conway. Everyones got a different they say they released the agenda, yet in the end the sum letter in hopes that fellow is so much greater than the republicans who continue to stick by the president will read whole of the parts. It. Jonathan lemire. Certainly George Conway has not been shy about criticizing alliances are hugely the president , but this could be another just marker here. Advantageous, theyre difficult, easy to break, and a lesson like a, mar marker of momentum that this will reverberate globally are more republicans willing to for a long time. Speak out against this last thought. Think about the korean war. President s conduct who are what if when things got tough on unwilling to defend what he has the Korean Peninsula in the 50s done. What we see now will there be we just kinda said, you know, i republican lawmakers in the dont remember seeing a Korean Senate who take cues from this, who feel it is a path they can destroyer there at dday, lets get out of here. What would the Korean Peninsula go counsdown as the house barre look like right now . It would be a totalitarian towards impeachment. I wonder if the syria regime aligned completely with decision is jarring to them. It is certainly the defense has been, you china and russia. Know, he just says these things. Instead . There, if there is any, is that thats when she made her the president of the United States was talking about why he wants to bring troops home. Deplorables company. He was defending his move in turkey, hes not bringing troops home there thats a separate issue. But why he wants to get out of the war is to prevent scenes and it is more important when about the dignified transfer of remains at Dover Air Force base. But obviously thats a very private and solemn moment for those families. It is. They talk about that. And that, i think, in the end is bernie says he cant give us a a hurtful event in three ways. Tick tock on it. You write in part that when we one is that heres the president live in a perpetual cycle about effectively acting like a camera rage, were depleted, run down, describing in very emotional, private detail what happens and sleep deprived and there. Its inappropriate. Thats why we dont have cameras in situations like that. Physically ill. Secondly, its kind of using what im saying is the opposite that as a political prop to of disengage, it is engage in a articulate policy decisions. Way that is sustainable and it just doesnt feel right. And thirdly, it kind of feels producti productive. That is the only way to be like dragging the military, our productive. That is deliberative about stepping out of the storm and into the calm center. One institution that is it is finding what the greeks resolutely nonpartisan, dragging it into politics. I dont think that was a good call ataraxia. Move on the part of the president anymore than having a the eye of the hurricane. Discussion at Arlington National cemetery would be in terms of this is me sub meeting a piece the politics of the moment. I dont think that is going to be well received and i dont to thrive about that. You could argue perpetual think it was a very appropriate level of communication about a very solemn moment. Outrage. When you were in an emotional jonathan lemire, its just a area, your ability to think goes violation of trust, of down. Science proves that and we have heartbroken families who are going through an already excruciating process. To maintain calm in those times. Thats right, joe. Its one of the most sacred duties a president has. Tiny little steps that we can by our counts, the president has take to be able to engage in a been to dover twice since taking productive way that doesnt make office, only two times, to greet the remains of Fallen Soldiers. Us sick and stressed out. One of them for example is lets also remember this is a occasionally log off twitter. President who has had a number of feuds with gold star you dont have to read twitter families, the families of those who lost their lives in our service both during the campaign the whole time. I know, thats me, im and since taking office. Admiral, one last question for particularly bad. You both are ridiculous, take you. During that same event yesterday the president was also defending a breath. His decision to pull back taking just 60 seconds, troops u. S. Troops from syria. He was asked about how this could embolden isis and lead a whatever is waiting for you, numberch the just take one minute to set your number of their prisoners to escape. His defense to that was, yes, intention for the day. But theyll be escaping to remember what youre grateful europe as opposed to the United States. For, whatever you want. Talk about what that means and how destabilizing and dangerous it is like sound block against that is for countries, some of the constant political outlook whom are our closest allies. Of the day. Grace and radical acceptance. They are our closest allies. It is hard during this time but the 28 nations of nato in you have to try to get there. Europe, United States, canada, President Trump will go to north america, of course, the minnesota this evening for a rally in a district that leans remainder are our closest allies and friends, a pool of partners who share our values, who come heavily for democrats. And fight and die alongside us trump who has spent little time in afghanistan, in iraq, in there hopes to become the first president ial candidate to win the state and its ten electoral libya, in the balankins. Votes since Richard Nixon in i led those issues and to sort 1979. It rally in minneapolis, the of say its not a problem for us because theyre not coming into first since the impeachment our country ignores the greatest inquiry began, is the same single comparative advantage the district that elected elan omar. United states has in the world. And its the trust of our allies. So its not only those europeans, its our asian allies, our latin american 10,000 protestors are expected allies, all of them see that and to greet the president outside they see the back of the hand of the target center tonight. His campaign, which intends to from the president. It is chilling to contemplate spend tens of millions in the state have 20 paid Staff Members the end game if this continues and continues and continues in there and plans to explannand t terms of americas stature with our allies in the world. 100. Well, of course, mika, we there are tree things in remember the attacks in paris. Place that are great to watch. The heart of the attacks in paris and across other european i think that he is unfiltered in capitals as isis was spreading these rallies. I suspect he will hear these unvarnished thoughts on the terror in 2015. We remember those attacks and we procedure. Tonight laying down further remember Donald Trumps vicious markers in his intention to fight the probe. Two, his campaign is well aware takedown of barack obama and how tr is not many places to expand he wasnt handling isis. The map. There are not many places they donald trump would be tough enough to defeat isis. Want to expand the campaign. Well, donald trump is basically they mentioned vermont and allowing isis off the map and he mexico. New hampshire is possible. Says, again, it just shows minnesota is one they have their eye on. Something that everybody has he only went there once in the known really. I mean, even the republicans that cower in the corner for the last campaign. Past several years have known he the demographics are similar to is ill equipped emotionally and the other rust belt and upper mentally to be americas commander and chief. But he actually said yesterday, midwest states. They feel confident there, but oh, dont worry about isis, dont worry about isis, theyre of course it is back chanting. Just going to all flood back into europe. As if theres not a way for them to get from europe to the united he didnt want those chaptents states, to charlotte, north carolina, to new york city, to present out again. Oklahoma city, oklahoma, to it was the First Time Since fresno, california. You name it, they can figure out a way to get back here. And Donald Trumps releasing them and he knows hes releasing these fox news poles came out them. But also yesterday brought up another memory for our today. He said only 25 of the people support impeachment and that is just not true. Producers. He is not just trying to expand the president as the admiral the map, he is trying to plug said, just showing holes in the map. If you look at priclaces and bi extraordinarily poor form in betraying the confidence of the parents of those Fallen Soldiers. It reminds me of when did he an and warren, they are upside down interview in normandy, remind now. Our producers when did he an interview in normandy where he was attacking nancy pelosi and attacking his political allies with the crosses of normandy i wonder if it impacts this behind him. Other stuff, we will watch the speech, and practice what ariana republicans, this man is not suited to be commander and chief. Preaches tomorrow morning. Youve known it all along. Thank you. That does it for us this but hes showing you every single day. You own every action he takes. Morning. Hi there, im stephanie ruhle, you own the reemergence of isis. You own the betrayal of the Turkish Ground forces are fighting in northeastern syria kurds. You own the continued rise of clashing in towns and villages iran across the middle east. Along the border. You own this warfare now from turkey into syria. Remember, these fighters stood you own the russians continued expansion across the middle east. You own all of this unless you shoulder to shoulder. And they lost 11,000 fighters in remove this man. Unless you vote to remove this the process. Man from office. Now its that simple. And, mika, the fox poll is just the latest poll that suggests thats what most americans want now. Retired fourStar Navy Admiral, thank you so much. The admiral has a new piece in this weeks issue of Time Magazine entitled trump and the troops. An impulsive president chose no inclination to use the forces he zbraits celebrat celebrates. Well look forward to reading that and we look forward to having you back on the show on monday. Thank you very much. And still ahead, former Vice President joe biden has been in the senate for two impeachments so he knows the stakes. Now for the first time hes making a direct call for President Trumps impeachment. That conversation is next on morning joe. That conversation is next on morning joe. Our 18yearold was in an accident. When i called usaa, it was that voice asking me, is your daughter ok . Thats where i felt relief. Were the rivera family and we plan to be with usaa for life. See how much you can save with usaa insurance. Itheres my career. s more to me than hiv. Your doctor should do a pregnancy test before starting dovato. Use effective Birth Control while taking dovato. The most common side effects are headache, diarrhea, nausea, trouble sleeping, and tiredness. So much goes into who i am and hope to be. Ask your doctor if starting hiv treatment with dovato is right for you. To preserve our constitution, our democracy, our basic integrity, he should be impeached. Thats not only because of what hes done, to answer whether hes committed acts that are sufficient to warrant impeachment is obvious. We see it in trumps own words. But impeachment isnt only about what the president s done. Its about the threat the president poses to the nation if allowed to remain in office. He believes he can and will get away with anything he does. We all laughed when he said he could stand in the middle of fifth avenue and shoot someone and get away with it. Its no joke. Hes shooting holes in the constitution and we cannot let him get away with it. After supporting only a congressional inquiry, democratic president ial candidate joe biden stepped it up yesterday and for the first time called for President Trump to be impeached. Joining us now, boston globe reporter james pendle and kimberly atkins, and reporter for tthe Washington Post. James, you wore theere there ye, the Vice President taking aim as impeachment. This is a step for the campaign that probably seems inevitable at this point. Look, think its important to remember in context, bidens the last person to say this in terms of the 2020 democrats. He follows nancy pelosi, he follows a lot of the House Democrats. Hes 173 days after Elizabeth Warren called for the same thing. And so, yes, these are some very striking words to hear from jb, the most pointed to date of his campaign. But in context, he may need to pivot and turn this thing around. Central to the premise of joe biden is that he believes hes the one who can take it to trump. Hes the one he tells democrats he has the best ability to beat trump. And his inability over the last, say, two weeks as hes been swirled up in this impeachment drama he really hasnt been making that argument very well. Kimberly, i wanted to follow up on that exact point. It seems like the Vice President has really sort of struggled too the role that biden and his family plays in this ukrainian drama which has led to the impeachment inquiry or not. Do you think that . Do you see this now as an effective tactic or is it too late for someone whos first words of his Campaign Announcement was charlottesville and taking it directly to President Trump and he seems to be reluctant to do that up until this point . It really has taken a long time, james is right. In this case it was this desire to balance his his desire to protect his family and protect his familys privacy, but also have to respond to this. It took the campaign quite some time to land. In the meantime you saw other candidates really be more direct about this, even when joe biden initially said he had supported impeachment inquiry immediately Elizabeth Warren was out with messaging reminding people that it was five months ago that she called for an impeachment. Joe biden has had trouble staying ahead of this and so now it seems like there is a new focus, a full pushing back not just against donald trump, but against the press. They sent a letter to the New York Times about its coverage against the dnc. Some of its surrogates are complaining there hasnt been a more robust response from the dnc. Sort of this all points, all hands on deck pushback. But well have to see if its too late. Elizabeth warren has been steadily rising in the polls and really meeting joe biden. Yeah, and, you mean eugene, e critical point there. I dont know if there was evidence that joe biden saw in the last couple days for him to support full impeachment inquiry and removal of office. Hes looking at the same polls you and i are. Elizabeth warren surge up behind him and he felt like had he to get board. She continues to put out ideas and take the lead. Biden hasnt taken the lead on this issue and to some of his critics, hes been reactionary in ways that voters in the Democratic Party do not want to see their nominee be. Hes going to have to remind voters that he does have ideas and the fortitude and ability to get out front of issues, even though this was not one of them. And so i expect to see him, perhaps, in the next week try communicate to voters other ways he believes he would be the best person to defeat trump by showing him his vision for what leadership should look like in terms of ethics and Foreign Affairs and the other areas that are bringing President Trumps presidency into question right now. Another thing thats interesting, rick tyler, is that if you just wait long enough, donald trump will give you a clearing. He will give you an opening. He will give you a chance to exit the stage on anything that may be brewing. For instance, when this first broke about the ukrainian call, joe biden was frozen, didnt know exactly what do because dent want to talk about his son, didnt want to drag that component in and only help donald trump. But donald trump has helped joe biden because not only did he admit the ukraine call, he also then started he had his wonderful, china, if you are listening moment where he invited the president of china to investigate his domestic rivals. He, of course, let isis off the mat and said hes going to release them back to europe. He betrayed the kurds. Hes helped the russians, the iranians, and he has that Bizarre Press Conference yesterday where he talks about normandy and breaches the trust of gold star families. It seems to me that that he cleared the way, joe biden could talk about impeachment because joe bidens son is last weeks news right now. It is last weeks news. I just have to say, joe, i havent watched the president s press conference until we played it in the last segment. And though some may not believe it, i dont think ive ever been as angry with the president over the exploitation of suffering military families as i am this morning. To your political point about joe biden, joe biden remains his his poll numbers havent moved in this event. Trumps poll numbers, ironically havent moved much either. Impeachment numbers have moved up, but today when theres an assertion made unanswered, it becomes a truth. And thats what donald trump, one of his tactics that he plays off of. And joe biden has missed, i think, opportunity after opportunity to provide leadership and context to what the president is saying. You mentioned all those things. He could have easily taken the president to task forever calling on a communist tictorial nation, china, which has human rights abuses for investigating an american citizen, which would be joe biden. He could have provided context to what was happening in ukraine and why he was calling for the ouster of shoal shokin. But he wasnt there. s thats why i think he hasnt moved in the polls. Donald trump did give him an opening because his biggest advantage that he said im the most worried about joe biden, in fact im so worried about joe biden that im going to get a foreign ally to get an stroft n investigation to muddy him up. Go ahead. Rick is spot on. But one thing you have to wonder about this, of course, is that the call happened in july. And in July Joe Biden hes up double digits over the rest of the field, a twoperson contest as joe biden wants it to be between him and donald trump. Right now if donald trump picks up a phone and calls a foreign leader is he asking for dirt about Elizabeth Warren or is he still doing it about joe biden . You know, kimberly, all this reminds me of an old mets baseball coach who said cant anybody here play this game . I want to follow up on what rick tyler said. How hard would it have been for joe biden all along to be calling donald trump out . I know if i was in his position id be saying, wait a second, donald trump is so scared of me that he is asking the chinese to violate my civil rights and launch an investigation against an american citizen . Is he really that scared of me . Donald, you need i mean, this isnt hard. And yet joe biden for a week or so allowed so much of this to pass and he stayed hunkered down saying nothing. Yeah, i think thats absolutely right. That first week especially it was really i was puz eled as we puzzled as well as to why there was not a robust response from the Biden Campaign right away making that very point. Saying clearly im the one that the president is most concerned about. I understand the concern to not want to drag ones family into it to know that every comment he made trump would come back with a comment about his family. But this is politics. Weve seen the knew every candidate in this race has to be prepared for everything hes going to bring. So it really was puzzling in that way. Perhaps they thought they were in a really solid position because of those poll numbers. But, again, weve seen Elizabeth Warren sort of chip away at all demographics and especially in places where joe biden is struggling like with young people in moving her numbers with people of color and really coming up in a way that, perhaps, the Biden Campaign was not expecting. Wburs kimberly atkinson, the boston globes james pendle and the Washington Post eugene scott, thank you all for being on this morning. Coming up, whether its Paul Manafort, hunter biden, or donald trump, ukraine keeps popping up in the news. Gq correspondent julia joins us ahead to explain why. Dont start humira if you have an infection. Ask your doctor about humira citratefree. Heres to you. What we can claim now is the victory over isis, over al qaeda to this point. The but thats not we can claim, i didnt say it was true. Wait. What . Well, i mean, this is but this also happens, stuart varny when he was confronted by joe walsh, he just lied. As the president ever told a lie . No, hes not, hes never told a lie. But, willie and mika, what i really see happening here is, i mean, you look at the fox news poll that shows 51 of americans wont the president removed from office. What im seeing the walls really are starting to close in. The baghdad bobs of trumpism are becoming more hshrill. Theyre openly saying hes got to lie, hes got to lie. And the president has no place to hide. I think really for the First Time Since donald trump went down that escalator, the majority of americans are finally on to him. And, perhaps, just perhaps, he cant march into the middle of fifth avenue, willie, shoot somebody and get away with it, for the first time, mind you. And, mika, everybody who goes on tv now is absolutely reeling. The few who will still go on tv in defense of the president , whether its ron johnson on meet the press or jim jordan on a different show or lou dobbs saying i reserve the right to say the thing even though its not true, i can still say it. Thats the best hes got right now. Welcome back to morning joe, i think. Its thursday, october 10th. Still with joe, willie and me we have White House Reporter for the Associated Presson that lemire. And joining the conversation, editor of the new yorker magazine, David Remnick. This is big. This is big. This year marks remnick is back. The 20th annual remnick speaks. New Yorker Festival which kicks off tomorrow. Nice to see you. David, i can start with you really quickly . We talked about this before offline about what you wrote as you saw the states starting to fall on election night, 2016. You were over at a friends place and nerd that you are you had a laptop with you. Actually you never carry your laptop you told me, but that night you had come from the office and you just sort of by chance had the laptop with you. The truth is, the new yorker had prepared, as i think, most news organizations had prepared lots of material about the first woman president , Hillary Clinton, all the rest and we had barely a scrap for the unexpected, which was poor planning on my part, god knows, as it turns out. And i sat there that the place in the corner and wrote maybe more emotionally than i might have in normal circumstances. But unfortunately i think even that dire piece turned out to be understating the case, that well, actually the tragedy has turned out to be a daily catastrophe. And it gets worse and worse and worse. Actually and you get criticized, the media gets criticized, you to, i do, all the rest for somehow benefiting from this. I dont see it. I would be a much happier american if this were not the case. Oh my god, nobodys benefitting from this. Other than maybe Rudy Giuliani with ukrainian contracts possibly. I want to read this, though, because, of course, weve all known for several years that this presidency was a disaster. But somehow it keeps getting worse and worse by the day. Republicans not pushing back against this man becomes more and more negligent by the day. But i want to go back to hours after donald trump was elected president of the United States. This is what david wrote on that night. And sadly it is too prescient. The election of donald trump to the presidency is nothing less than a tragedy for the american republic, a tragedy for the constitution, and a triumph for the forces at home and abroad of authoritarianism, misogyny and racism. Trumps shocking victory and his ascension to the presidency say sickening event in the history of the United States and liberal democracy. On january 20th, 2017, we will bid farewell to the first africanamerican president , a man of integrity, dignity, and generous spirit and witness the inauguration of a con who did little to spurn endorsements by forces of xenophobia and white supremacy. Its impossible to react to this moment with anything less than revultion and anxiety and it reminds me of that moment in broadcast news when holly hunters editor said it must be wonderful being right all the time. And she started crying and said, no, actually its awful. Im sure you wish that you had been that this assessment had been overblown. Of course. But sadly it may be understated. It may be understated. At the end of that piece i said and i still feel that the only thing that holds us in place, the only possibility, is the u. Success sustenance of our institutions, whether its the press or all the rest. Thats the bat approximately. Say guy whos unchanged. 1990 twon 2 george h. W. Bush had the pleasure of meeting donald trump. Donald trump came up to the newly elected george bush and said i should be your nuclear negotiator. And heres how i would do it. Id skip the first meeting and make them wait for me for five hours. And then the next one i would say i would curse them out. That was his and, you know, bush thought he was ridiculous and appointed richard burr, of course. And of course this is the guy in the presidency now. Yeah. Its not like hes a changed individual. No. Its not like he inherited the mantle of the presidency and became another person. No. I think actually were now seeing the ramifications of his prolonged presence in the presidency. Its now its no joke. Its now showing itself out and the consequenceser here. Lets go through the latest fox news poll in which 51 of voters support not only the impeachment inquiry, but also trumps removal from office. Thats up nine points since last month. 43 do not, down seven points. Those who support the impeachment probe include 13 of republicans, 39 of independents, and 85 democrats. Compared to previous administrations, more than half, 51 , said that the Trump Administration is more corrupt. Up five points since last month. 25 said it is less corrupt. And 18 said it is about the same, down six. Now, twothirds of voters polled said that it was inappropriate for trump to ask foreign leaders that investigate his rivals. 25 said they believed it was appropriate. When asked what trump said on the call with ukraines president , 43 called it an Impeachable Offense. 27 agreed it was inappropriate but nonimpeachable. And 17 said the conversation was appropriate. And finally, almost half of voters, 48 , said the impeachment inquiry was trump getting what he deserved. 37 believed people are out to get him. Joe. Well, weve gone over these numbers before, willie. You can look at the fact that the majority of americans want him out of office. They want him impeached, they want him convicted, they want him removed from office. I think, though, again, we talked about it last hour, the number that may actually sting donald trump worse singing more, is the fact that almost half of americans are saying trump is getting exactly what he deserves. Yeah. This isnt a deep state conspiracy. This isnt nancy pelosi, this isnt adam schiff, this isnt fbi directors past in the isnt ghosts of christmas past. This is donald trump getting exactly what he deserves. Almost one out of two americans believing that. That undercuts just about every narrative that comes out of his paranoid twitter feed. And the number right there that we have on the zrescreen, out to get trump, that lines up roughly with his base, with his Approval Rating. The cnbc Approval Rating last week had him at 37 . Those people as weve been saying over the past week as these impeachment polls come through, theyre not going anywhere. Theyre the ones that believe if he shot somebody on fifth avenue they would rally around him and see some conspiracy that was out to get him. But if you look, david, at the polling just over the last week, the president and the white house, as jonathan pointed out earlier, they did can can no loy theres a movement happening and when fox news has a screaming headline that the majority of americans want President Trump impeached, that says something to the president. If youve got a base snaes where between 37 and 42 , which has been the steady base for the Trump Administration and Trump Presidency for coming on three years, if you start seeing fissures in the Information System for those people, fox news, rightwing sites online, social media, when that starts to get complicated, as i think is inevitable and as youre starting to see already. I dont mean just chris wallace. Then those numbers too could move. And that means that people on the republican side and the senate and the house could themselves feel free to be honest with themselves. That is the dynamic that were starting to look at. Thats very complicated. Also it shows you another poll number there about the majority of the high numbers of people that think that the call was inappropriate shows you that the white houses attempts to explain this and defend this has have not worked. The president has tried several times now to normalize that call saying i was trying to root out corruption. I would do this for any american citizen. He it was perfect. It was a perfect call at the talked about china to normlize normalize it. When he was asked if he asked any down the get information on someone that wasnt a political rival he said he didnt know hed have to get back to you. Now they go back to the sto stonewalling. But that could inflame people further. Add to americans obviously believe this is a legitimate inquiry, that weve seen a majority who want to see him removed from office, and its a white house that is flailing and been unable to sort of shape the narrative whatsoever and potentially, as you just said, the republican senators, the republicans are still the president has very high Approval Ratings against republicans. It will be with republicans. It will being it interesting tf that starts tracking down. The moment Lindsey Graham in other words, he has denounced the president for did he trag kurdish allies. The minute he decides its impair riff on him to say that the president has also betrayed Constitutional Values and his own domestic institutions, then youve seen a huge sea change not only within the soul of Lindsey Graham and the consciousness of Lindsey Graham who used to denounce donald trump on a daily basis, it should be remembered. But when that happens, and it comes across the board in congress, i think the game is done. But we shouldnt leap ahead. Uhuh. You know, david, you talked about 37, the Donald Trumps range of support has been between 37 and 42 . I remember when we were going up to the 2018 election and everybody was trying to figure out what was going to happen, would democrats win swing districts in the house . Would they take over the house . I remember just going back and forth and looking at data and these projections. I said hes a 40 president. 40 president lose. That means 60 of americans are opposed to donald trump, which, of course, probably explains why the house why democrats had recordbreaking victory that night if you look at the vote tally. Im just wondering, has the media focused too much on that 37 to 42 and all of the articles and all of the comment tears sayi commentaries saying hes gotten away tw with it. His party faced a horrific rebuke and i dont know how a 40 president gets reelected in 2020. Well, first of all, he won in 2016. Its not as if his base was so much bigger then. He was running against somebody who had turned out ran a poor campaign, he was working off the disaffection of a lot of people, all kinds of dhaurnts wecurrene gone over and over and elsewhere that came into play and he lost the popular vote by 3 million people. It was an extremely narrow victory that maybe if you ran it ten times over it would only happen just the once, but it happened. It absolutely happened. So we cant ignore and should not ignore journalistically or in any way this large bafs people who clearly made a devils bargain, to some extent, with donald trump. That felt so passionately and deeply about certain things were willing to overlook the racism, the illegality, the shady business dealings, the very rich biography of darkness in donald trump because they wanted certain things. Now, some of those voters, some of those voters are, you know, have ugly feelings on when it comes to race and misogyny, all the rest. But there are other people whose deep recentmen deep resentments had to do with other things. And there will come a day thats post trump, and those people will still be there and struck willing wi suggest willing a struggling with a lot of things. The income equality thats radical, how are we going to deal with it . So much is at stake. The very fate of the earth, the environment is at stake and were never talking about it because were obsessed with this craziness in washington. Lets bring in correspondent for gq magazine. Her latest reporting takes a look at why ukraine pops up in so Many American scanned anlds s ska scandals and she writes this. It pops up in our scandals because its in the middle of a tug of war between the russia and the west. It is full of people with funny slavik names. Even if that disstarts whats really happening on the ground. The problem in doing so is that we become unwitting participants in someone elses games. And how many different ways, julia, has that happened in this current scandal . Well, a few different ways, which is why i decided to write the piece. We keep seeing people going over, americans going over to ukraine earning ungodly sums of funny money and it keeps coming back to bite them in terms of the american political game. And what do you mean by funny money . Well, if you look at some of the sums that have either been asked for by american Political Consultants or business consultants, if you look at the money thats been earned by people like Paul Manafort who made nearly 13 million in cash off the books in just five years, hunter biden was being said to, you know, even though theres no evidence of wrongdoing, was being said to be making as much as 50,000 a month. Ted divine who was person with n de Bernie Sanders top strategist was earning 15,000 a day not including travel. This isnt money they would be making out of the west in the is all proportion with their qualifications. And then you get into the realm of the president dealing with ukraine in terms of investigating his political rivals. And strategically that ends up going back to one of the huge relationships with his presidency, what is putin. Can you explain that . Visavis ukraine . Uhhuh. Ukraine became, like i wrote, like the prize and the tug of war, geopolitical tug of war between ukraine. Paste president s seen it, george w. Bush, barack obama seen it as an important battleground to kind of show that the western liberal model of democracy and governance and free markets, et cetera, is the better way to go. Russia has been trying to show the opposite, that its way of, you know, oligarchy and authoritarianism is the better way to go. Julia, sorry to interrupt you. Its willie. I want to ask you what it is about ukraine that offers up so much of what you call funny money . Why is this small nation a magnet for people like Paul Manafort and people like hunter biden . It has to do with the way that ukraine was privatized in 1991 after the soviet union collapsed. The soviet industrial gems, ukraine say very rich count ukraine is a very rich country. Unlike Russia Ukraine say competitive democracy, it is a d ukrainians think that american Political Consultants are good at helping them win elections, doing things like polling, consulting, voter targeting. On the business side, a lot of these Companies Like burisma, the Energy Company that hunter biden whose board hunter biden sat on want god bigger and expand its reach past ukraine. For that you need a big name, a big western name for window dressing to kind of dress up an otherwise murky and opaque company. And you need western lobbyists so shake the trees in washington and make the aid come in and, you know, fill out the coffers in kiev. Julia, youve covered post soviet russia and post soviet ukraine and many other places in the region. And is ukraine unique in this way . Is ukraine uniquely corrupt in the post soviet space . Its not. But it is unique in the sense that its emerged as this battleground that we Pay Attention to because of what happened in 2014 with the russian invasion of the east of the country, the illegal annexation of the crimea insurance pla, an peninsula and the way that kazakhstan is not being divvied up between russia and the west or belarus isnt as much of a prize. So we focus on it more. Its also, you know, we have more access to the corruption, again, because its freer, its closer to the west. It does want to be european. There are forces that do want it to be more western, more transparent, less corrupt. But, again, its more accessible than a place like belarus or kazakhstan or russia. Julia, thank you so much. Well be reading your new reporting for gq magazine. And David Remnick, thank you as well. The 20th annual new Yorker Festival kicks off tomorrow in new york city. What are you looking at, by the way, with the festival . Well, nancy pelosi is a guest. John kasich is a guest. Interesting. And you wouldnt put john kasich and patty smith together necessary. And as somebody wrote in a very, very powerful article today, they didnt help us in the second world war, they didnt help us with normandy as an example. In addition to that, we have spent tremendous amounts of money on helping the kurds in terms of ammunition, in terms of weapons, in terms of money, in terms of pay. With all of that being said, we like the kurds. Mr. President , the kurds helped the u. S. Defeat isis and by allowing this offensive is it going to be more difficult in future times of need to develop alliances . No. It wont be. It wont be at all. Alliances are very easy. But our alliances have taken advantage of us. If you look at how much money we spend on nato and how much money countries from europe who are really a much bigger beneficiary than we are, okay, theyre there and were here, were many miles away. Our alliances in many cases have taken tremendous advantage of us. If you look at nato, i got them to pay 100 billion more. Out of the 28 countries, 20 of them are delinquent. You know what delinquent means, thats an old real estate term. Hes delinquent with his rent. Theyre delinquent with their payment. They owe us a tremendous amount of money and they never pay us back. They owe us hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars. I dont look at that time that way. Joining us now, former u. S. Ambassador to the United Nations and former National Security adviser to president obama, susan rice. Shes out with her new memoir, tough love, my story of things worth fighting for. And look forward to talking about that, i just have to start, though, so many questions i could ask you but why dont i start with our are alliances easy . No, mika. Good morning, everybody. Morning. Alliances take hard work. They are a twoway street. And that clip that you just played encapsulates the rot at the center of Donald Trumps foreign policy. He has no conception of how america has been strong and a Global Leader over the course of the last decades. Its because we have an Unmatched Network of alliances and partnerships, countries that are willing to join with us when we face a challenge, whether its after 9 11, will its to defeat isis, whether its to fight ebowlla or deal with russ, we need allies. And because he trashes them at every corner, he makes them weaker and far less willing to trust us when we need them most. Hi, i want to get your perspective as someone who has served closely with president obama about the process here. All the reporting is that President Trump got a phone call from president erdogan the other night. President erdogan prevailed on the United States to make this decision to pull back troops and let turkey into northeast syria. That the chief of staff mic mulvaney scrambled to call the secretary of defense to tell them this was happening. In other words the secretary of defense was not consulted. There was no process, it was the whim of one man. Well, thats exactly what weve seen throughout the Trump Administration, its frightening. And one of the things i try to do in the book is to remind americans what a proper National Security decisionmaking process looks like. Whether in the Obama Administration, the bush administration, or a Clinton Administration. Doesnt mean that every decision is made perfectly. But it means that the analysis, the assessment, the intelligence is done properly and due consideration is given to the risks and benefits of various different options and a racial decision gets made. And then it gets rolled out in a responsible fashion with our allies consulted, congress consulted in something other than a tweet. This man has arrogated unto himself all authority out of complete and utter ignorance or created selfinterest and has made decisions like this one which dont take account of anything relevant to our national interests. You know, ambassador rice, i know it will shock you but sometimes we on this show and other shows sit back and we make judgments and assessments of president s and leaders. But without thinking about what Henry Kissinger said that sometimes there are no right answers, sometimes you choices, it seems that syria always presents that opportunity. Youve said youve been on the book tour, youve faced criticism about syria and yet i remember an npr interview where hearing you say that actually your biggest disappointment was syria. Can you talk about that country, still a troubling situation, and talk about the bad choices that you all had to sift through and in trying to move forward with the policy there . A policy that many people still criticize today . Well, joe, yes. I write at length about the challenges we faced in syria and how we wrestled with them. And i say that in my judgment, anyway, syria was and remains the toughest policy problem that we faced. Whether we were dealing with the threat of chemical weapons, which, in fact, we did manage to get 1300 metric tons of those chemical weapons out. Or whether we wrestled with the civil war where there was no satisfactory answer. But, you know, today were talking about isis and, of course, it was the fight against isis was one that president obama initiated, got 65 or more of our partners and allies to join with us and put isis on the path to defeat. President trump came in and continued that fight appropriately. And now all of a sudden when erdogan places a phone call and asks President Trump for this extraordinary capitulation to our partners and allies, President Trump said yes. And you have to wonder why. Its not just because hes sick and tired of wars in the middle east. This is a very economical investment that the United States has made with very minimal u. S. Personnel on the ground. We learned the lesson the hard by that iraq and elsewhere that when you work with partners and the kurds were our partners, they were the pointy end of the spear doing the fighting. We were advising and training. So this was a very wise investment proportionate to the risk that we face from isis. And now hes upended all of that. Well, an extraordinary investment, a wise investment, a measured investment, and a Sustainable Investment that actually kept russia, syria, turkey, iran, and isis in check. Hard to criticize that. I want to go back to syria one more time, though, just for leaders who are watching. And what they what they need to get out of your book when youre reading that crisis, because i remember on the show we would report 10,000 people dead in the civil war in syria, 20,000, 40, then it was a hundred, then 200,000. And im just wondering with the gift of hindsight if you could go back, is there something we could have done to prevent that killing or is it like vietnam . I remember after watching ken burns documentary on vietnam i just said, my god, there is nothing we could have done. That war was doomed from the start. Well, joe, i think its very hard to look back even on something as proximate as the civil conflict in syria and say with center, and i dont aim do this, that nothing could have been done differently. I point out in various places that at times we created a gap between our rhetoric and expectations and actions in terms of followup. But i also wrestled very directly in tough love with the question of should we have intervened militarily, the United States, in syrias civil war . We provided extraordinary amounts of humanitarian assistance. We trained and equipped and supported the rebels. We supported the neighboring states. We were actively engaged for years in robust diplomacy trying to end that conflict. But president obama made the decision and, in fact, he made it multiple times as we confronted this that weighing the risks and the benefits of the United States deploying ground force in another conflict at a massive scale necessary to depose assad, and this would have been before the russias intervened, that weighing those risks and benefits he determined it was not in the aggregate, in the United States interest to get involved with that civil war directly with our own forces. I know how painful that decision was for him and for all of us who were part of it. I say they were there easy answers and nobody can feel good about the outcome. But in all honesty, joe, and i wrestled with this as i wrote the book and thought through how i feel about it, i dont feel that was the wrong choice. I think wed be in a very, very different place had the president decided to get actively involved militarily with u. S. Forces on the ground in syria. And that would be what it would have taken to depose assad, as we found in iraq, quite frankly. Yeah, i was going to say, there also is the context of being in afghanistan for over a decade, the tragedy of iraq, all of the mistakes that were made in iraq. Do you suspect the decision may have been different if america had not been in those two kwak mires f quagmires for more than a decade . Yes, but think its hard to weigh. Because what we learned from iraq and from a different and lesser extent from afghanistan is the extraordinary price of fighting a terrorist threat or deposing a dictator in the case of iraq where it requires hundreds of thousands or tens of thousands, over 100,000 u. S. Ground forces there on a sustained basis in bloody conflict as in places like fallujah. I personally like President Trump obama, in fact, oppose the original iraq war because i didnt think that was a war to deal with terrorists in the first instance orht it was corr into afghanistan after 9 11 and to deal with the terrorist threat there. But in both cases weve seen that its a very, very deadly and costly endeavor. What we learned from iraq and afghanistan and applied in syria is that we can fight terrorists with partners. What the military calls by, with, and through partners. Thats white kurds were such valuable allies. They took that fight to isis. And when donald trump says we gave them tens of millions of dollars or billions of dollars in equipment and training, we didnt give them that. They fought for us and we enabled them to fight on our behalf. If that is not a smarter way to deal with the terrorists threat, i dont know what is. Ambassador rice, its jonathan lemire. Congrats on the book. Switching gears to ukraine, you obviously worked in the Obama Administration with Vice President biden. I have two questions for you. First, set the record state in terms of the prosecutor who was fired from ukraine and how that came about. But secondly, was the Obama Administration aware that hunter biden was working in ukraine at the time and was that appropriate . That information, think, jonathan, as you know and others have documented was in the Public Domain at the time. But going back to Vice President bidens role, Vice President biden was executing declared, clearcut, transparent u. S. Government policy on behalf of the administration, on behalf president obama. He was executing a policy that had strong bipartisan backing in congress which was to root out corruption at a time when the United States and our western partners and the imf were trying to provide billions of dollars to help establish and support the new government in ukraine. So he was transparently pursuing u. S. Government policy. Thats in stark contrast what donald trump did, which was to try to extort the Ukrainian Government with up to 400 million in u. S. Military assistance that they desperately needed because theyre in a hot war still with russia and utilizing a white house visit not to advance u. S. Interests and u. S. Policy, but to advantage himself politically against his perceived opponent. That is entirely different. And then tried to hide it on a classified system that is not suited for that kind of communication. So these are apples and oranges. This is a classic donald trump effort to lie, to distort, to confuse, and, you know, we have to be responsible consumers of that information based on facts and distinguish between lies and reality. Ambassador, base dollad on a youve said and seen, do you believe President Trump should be impeached . Willie, i think that every day, including this past few days with selling out our kurdish partners and basically giving a bunch of isis terrorists a get out of jail free card to attack our partners in europe and potentially here, come to the United States, i cant begin to quantify the number of abuses that this president has committed in broad daylight. I support the impeachment inquiry, i think its absolutely necessary at this point. But i think its wise to let the inquiry play out and the facts emerge and then members of congress can make a decision as to how theyd vote. I dont i dont have that vote. You talk in your book, ambassador rice, about joining the Clinton Administration with a baby on your hip. The challenges of balancing work and family life, which i know mika will want to talk about. But you also talk about a certain encounter with richard holbrooke. Tell us about it. Well, multiple encounters with richard holbrooke. I think the one youre referring to . Well, the one where you flipped him off. Yeah, that one. Oh my gosh. That came, yes, after he declared in our very first meeting which began when he waited he staked out my office and sat there for an hour and he greeted me and i greeted him and he said, you know, i already dislike you because youve beaten my record as the youngest regional assistant secretary of state. Our relationship went downhill from there, quite frankly, joe. And as i write in the book, my father taught me something from a very young age. That ive taken to heart. Which is dont take crap off of people. And so when here, here. In a meeting some mongs months later he bullied me and tried to denigrate me in the middle of a policy dispute in front of about six or seven ambassadors who were my direct reports who were 20 to 30 years my senior, he said very sarcastically dripping with contempt, ah, i remember when i, too, was a young assistant secretary. And rather than respond in words, i responded with a gesture that he pretended not to see but im quite sure did he see. And then i absented myself, excused myself a few minutes later because i figured i better tell the secretary of state and National Security adviser that their assistant secretary had just flipped off a member of the cabinet. And when i reported that, i must say that the response was more than encouraging. It happens. Willie. I want to ask you about another encounter in the book, page 382, 2015 white house correspondents dinner. I hadnt seen this reported previously, but this is about six weeks before donald trump declared his candidacy for the presidency and you describe a scene where youre seated at a table and a big man comes up behind you, grabs you by the shoulders and whispers something to you. Well, willie, he grabs me by the shoulders and sort of pulls me up out of my chair. And i turn around to find that its donald trump. And then he hugs me. Ive never seen this man in person before, never met him. He hugs me and while hes hugging me he whispers into my ear, i think you were very unfairly treated over benghazi and youre doing a great job for the country. And i couldnt have been more shocked both by the hug, which was i hasten to say the hug itself was not gross, but the whole thing was kind of creepy because id never met this man before. But then what he said was most striking because as you know well, he spent many months and years before that and then every day since assailing president obama, questioning his citizenship, and trashing people like me who served with him, with the president every day. So it was a remarkable encoun r encounter. An early indication, i guess, the gap between what donald trump says privately and what he actually thinks and what he says publicly. His hugs can be gross. So [ laughter ] ive gotten one. So, susan, i love this part in your book where you talk about being a breastfeeding mom at the state department and ruffling some feathers. Talk about that, because you were working and we all know, i mean, my dad had your job, its 24 7. Its not like you can put things aside. Right. Well, just to be clear, mika, i wasnt breastfeeding as National Security adviser, i was a little bit past that. But all these jobs are 24 7. As assistant secretary of state for African Affairs i started that job when our son jake was 3 months old. And thankfully i was serving under secretary of state madeleine albright, our first female secretary of state who was extremely supportive. And, but i, you know, i had to wrestle with what do i do . I doesnt want to stop breastfeeding at three months. I wanted to be able to do that as long as i possibly could. And so i brought jake to the state department and he would come occasionally for feedings and, you know, when i couldnt feed him personally i would be pumping and storing my milk, you know, everybody out there, every mother out there understand whats this is about. And, you know, i also spent time with jake, tried to walk with him in the halls of the state department. Thats where he learned to walk, pushing a little truck as a push toy. And wed walk by these offices in the state department on the sixth floor down the hall from my office and horrified people would look out the door at us as if we had, you know, pooped on the carpet or something. It was a strange, strange culture. And i do think that, you know, in addition to being very young in that role, being a breastfeeding mother raised some eyebrows. But i frankly didnt care. I felt like, you know, i had to do what i had to do for my son and i didnt diminish my ability to do my job. And if there was some people who didnt like it, well, then, that was going to be their problem. These jobs are 24 7. Is jake now the one at stanford . Yes. As president of the College Republicans . Yes, thats the one. Oh, boy. Hes past president of the stanford College Republicans. But his views have not changed dramatically from that point. Yeah, you know, ive got two kids, mika. Ive got the wonderful jake at stanford and a wonderful daughter who is almost 17 years old. They have dramatically different political perspectives and im very proud of both of them and love them both very much. Another thing you have in common, my dad had susan rices job and my brother ian is a republican, my brother mark say democrat and then theres me all of the place in the middle. And its great to have a family that can have great debates. Well, we do have those, among other things. Yes, some of them can get out of hand. But anyhow, the book is tough love, my story of things worth fighting for ambassador susan rice, thank you so much for sharing. Thank you guys for having me. Its great to be with you. Still ahead, Vice President mike pence is about as close as you can get to donald trump. But when it comes to ukraine it seems like hes trying as much as he can to get as far away as possible. Vice president mike pence was asked by nbcs Vaughn Hillyard yesterday whether he knew if the Trump Administrations holdup of ukrainian aid money was tied to President Trumps desired investigation into the bidens. Take a look. Reporter were you ever aware, mr. Vice president , the interest in the bidens, interest in investigating the bidens was basically part of the reason for aid to ukraine being held up. I what i never discussed the issue of of the issue of the bidens with president zelensky. Were you ever aware of the administration what i can tell you is that all of our discussions internal, the president and our team and our context, in my office with ukraine, were entirely focused on the broader issues of the lack of european support reporter but you were aware of the interest and skrupgs. Reporter and was it tied to aid being held up. Thats your question. Let me be very clear. The issue of aid and our efforts with regard to ukraine were from my experience in no way connected to the very legitimate concern the American People have about corruption that took place, about things that happened in the 2016 election. Reporter but were you aware of this administration having those conversations. Or about the issue that former Vice President biden had his son on the board of a major Energy Company in ukraine at a time that Vice President biden was running the United States efforts in ukraine. I think the American People have a right to know what was going on, but all of our discussion, all of my discussions with the leadership in ukraine was entirely focused on President Trumps priority. Thats having it so many different ways at once. It is really hard to unpack it all, but we will. First of all, yes, it was Vaughn Hillyards question and you did not answer it. You skirted it. You jumped around it and then you actually admitted that it was the question, and then you tried to basically filibuster by taking as long as you cannot answering the question. That was pathetic. Just answer the question. The problem for you is that the answer to the question doesnt work well, especially if you are testifying before congress. Jonathan lemire. The Vice President was able to keep the russia probe largely at arms length. Hes been unable to do so with these ukraine questions. Of cost, it was going to be his trip to the ukraine president s inauguration that was cancelled by President Trump in light of because of these negotiations about wanting to investigate bidens request to investigate the bidens. We have seen a real attempt in recent days by the Vice President and the people around him to try to draw a line between his office and the oval office. I didnt do anything, you know, but something might have happened but i didnt do anything, but he knew about it. And theres real he saw it and he did not stop it. Thats right. And theres real concern here that he cant push back too hard because theres still some nervousness around the Vice President , that he could be pushed off the ticket. Theres at least enough discussion there that if trump sees that as needing a hail mary, you know, sometime next year if his poll numbers continue to slide he might try to push pence out despite how popular he is among evangelicals and conservatives. The Vice President is in a bind leading to dodging answers like that. He said the week before, you have to look at mike pences phone call too. The president is trying to draw the Vice President into the conversation. The president was flailing again yesterday and theres no good answer because the American People have seen the summary of the phone call between President Trump and zelensky, they have seen the whistleblower record, it is all there. The smoke screens about the bidens and ukraines, looking into what ukrainians did in 2016 with the crowdstrike theory, that stuff is to the side. Eyes on the prize. It is not that hard. Up next, much more on the fox news poll that shows that more than half of americans now support President Trumps removal from office. Plus, a live picture over Northern Syria right now as we enter day two of turkeys advance against kurdish fighters. We will have the latest as President Trump defends his decision to let it happen. White house reporter for the Associated Press jonathan lemire, republican communication strategist and msnbc political contributor rick tyler and former nato supreme allied commander retired four Star Navy Admiral james stavitas. Chief analyst for nbc news and msnbc and the author of the forthcoming book sailing true north, ten admirals and the voyage of character. Thats out next week and we look forward to that. Cant wait for that. But we begin with yet another poll showing a big jump in support for President Trumps impeachment. This time it is the latest fox news poll in which 51 of voters support the impeachment inquiry and trumps removal from office. Thats up nine points since last month. 43 do not, down seven points. Those who support the impeachment probe include 13 of republicans, 39 of independents and 85 of democrats. Compared to previous administration, more than half, 51 , said that the Trump Administration is more corrupt, up five points since last month. 27 said it is less corrupt, and 18 said it is about the same, down six. Twothirds of voters polled said it was inappropriate for trump to ask foreign leaders to investigate his rivals. 25 said they believed it was appropriate. When asked about what trump said on the call with ukraines president , 43 called it an Impeachable Offense. 27 agreed it was inappropriate, but not impeachable. 17 said the conversation was appropriate. Finally, almost half of voters, 48 , said the impeachment inquiry was trump getting what he deserved. 37 believed people are out to get him. Joe, these are important why . Well, theyre breathtaking actually is what they are for anybody observing politics for donald trump. For people close to him in the white house, these are breathtaking numbers, staggering numbers. Remember, these poll numbers are occurring at the same time they are raising hundreds of millions of dollars and spending tens of millions of dollars to burnish their image on television, in digital ads. That money is being burnt. If you are giving your money to donald trump right now, it is literally going up in flames in these digital ads because the more they put out there, the more his numbers collapse and the more erratic he gets. Just going through these numbers, willie, 51 , a majority, say that donald trump is more corrupt than past administrations. Of course, 51 saying that he should be removed from office. My gosh. This is a staggering number. Richard nixon went through two years of watergate before reaching that number. Now 51 saying he should be impeached and removed from office, ive got to say of course, 66 say that that call that donald trump said was perfect to the ukrainian president , they said it was wrong. Twothirds of americans said it was wrong. But, willie, what about this final number that almost half of americans say donald trump in this fox news poll say donald trump is getting what he deserves . Far less number of people actually clinging to their conspiracy theories that suggest that people are out to get trump. Bad news on all fronts from this fox news poll. It is a remarkable day, joe, when you go to fox news. Com, foxnews. Com and the screaming headline is record support for impeachment. As you point out correctly, it is not just support for the impeachment inquiry. It is 51 of americans saying they support donald trump being impeached and removed from office in a fox news poll. There are a lot of polls, jonathan lemire, he dismisses. He cited incorrectly poll numbers yesterday that were so wrong i wont even repeat. But there are a growing number of polls that the president cant ignore that show a majority of americans believe he should be removed from office. The white house is keenly aware of the polls and we know the president is keenly sensitive when one is from fox news. He believes them, that they should be part of the fox news news operation, which he, of course, has told people around him and said on twitter he thinks should more or less be working for him. This shows you, again, the white house is just now getting their hands around how fast this story is moving and how dangerous it is to them. They were caught flat footed after the phone word of the phone call came out. They thought releasing the transcript, the memo about the call might help. Every step theyve taken since to try to change the narrative has failed, much to the president s anger. We have seen him explode time and time again not just on twitter but in settings in the oval office, at the white house. He is frustrated and angry at his staff that they havent been able to change anything. What weve seen this week is they finally have come forward with some sort of strategy and that is to completely stonewall. The letter they sent to House Speaker pelosi a couple of days ago has legal justification. It is essentially a political document. Experts we talked to said it doesnt hold up, probably wouldnt hold up in court. In fact, it cites cable news appearances more than it does case law. But this is their attempt to stonewall, to fight, to try to make this to rally jonathan, let me interrupt you here. Sure. Let me interrupt for a second because i alluded to your article that you wrote, i think it was on sunday, where you talked about the very things that donald trump did to get elected, the very things he did for the first twoandahalf years of his presidency to help him survive scandals are now working against him. This is a prime example when you have over 55 , 56 , 57 , 58 of americans believing that the impeachment inquiry is legitimate according to abc news polls and wall street journal news polls and the president stonewalls it . My gosh, 58 of americans are thinking he is stonewalling a legitimate investigation. You can look and see what he did yesterday. I mean the attacks that he received from republicans were without a doubt the fiercest he has received since he has won the partys nomination back in the summer of 2016. You know, again, this is donald trump, hey, lets change the subject, lets create another controversy, would be thats even going to inflame people even more. And what happens . It just makes republicans turn on the man even more. I just think youre really on to something here, that his traditional untraditional moves actually that have worked for him for the past twoandahalf years wont work now. This is the first time the man couldnt walk out on fifth avenue, shoot somebody and get away with it because it seems that a majority of americans are finally on to him. Thats right. Thats exactly the point i was making here, is that what has happened is he tried to change the story with what has happened in turkey and syria and all its has done is alienate the people he needs most, republican senators, who actually control his fate in their hands, and his attempts to deflect, discredit and attack the integrity of the investigation, which we saw was the key to his playbook during the Mueller Probe and key to hi after they took control of the chamber. Thats not working right now. The American People are not buying it. They believe, as these polls reflect, this is something thats worth pursuing, investigating, and in that fox news poll perhaps even sending him out of office. Right now the standard tactics he has used arent effective. He is flailing and theyre going to have to come up with Something Else because all this does now is risk turning more and more of both the public and potentially lawmakers against him. You know, were going to show, rick tyler, some screen shots of some tweets from republicans, especially Lindsey Graham but also from Eric Erickson and others who are looking at what is happening with Donald Trumps betrayal of the kurds. Brit hume, others that usually usually you can count on to defend donald trump, and if not at least defending outright, then certainly to take an anti antitrump post. Eric erickson was saying it is hard to imagine how a democrat could be worse than this. Lindsey graham was extraordinarily fierce. Brit hume talking about the blood of the kurds being on donald trump, this was a stain that was not going to go away. Thats actually what the almost the entire republican allies, the Republican Party said. Isnt it fascinating, rick, that the president who blamed barack obama for inventing isis is now being blamed by republicans republicans, in his own party, who have feared a tweet from him in the past, they are now blaming him for isiss resurgence. Saying, you are responsible for the resurgence of isis and the blood of isis will be on your hands. It really is remarkable. This is the one thing republicans have finally found a backbone to stand up against the president on, and perhaps it is because some of these poll numbers. The number that sticks out to me is the 48 getting what he deserves. You mentioned that poll numbers have moved rapidly recently, and that is true. Nixon, it took two years. But i would put a thread through the whole thing. A conventional president if they had just been through two years of investigation about russian interference, which a Bipartisan Senate finance committee has now once again confirmed, you would think a normal president would avoid any appearance of trying to get a Foreign Government to interfere in an election, yet thats precisely what he did and now he is in deep trouble on that. It is in my view an Impeachable Offense, whether he gets impeached or not or convicted is another story. What does he do . He splits the Republican Coalition by betraying the kurds, and now i cant resist but mentioning yesterday that he actually suggested that the kurds deserved this because they didnt help us in normandy. Im sure thats probably true because the kurds didnt bring their naval fleet to help us with the invasion of normandy. You know, it is just a remarkable thing. Look, i am glad to see the republicans coming out strongly against the president s betrayal of the kurds, but i just cant help this lingering feeling of too little, too late. Still ahead on morning joe, President Trump puts a price tag on the value of american allegiance. How he is explaining away the sacrifice of the kurdish fighters who helped beat back isis. Thats next on morning joe. Mirez mom maria Maria Ramirez. Mcdonalds is committing 150 Million Dollars in tuition assistance, education, and career advising programs. Troops from Northern Syria turkey launched airstrikes, fired artillery and began a ground offensive against avenat allied kurdish forces. Turkeys president announced the offensive in a tweet outlining a mission to prevent the creation of a terror corridor across turkeys southern border and to bring peace to the region. President trump released a statement saying, the u. S. Does not endorse the attacks and has, quote, make it clear to turkey that this operation is a bad idea. But a Senior Advisor to turkish president erdogan said that President Trump and president erdogan, quote, have reached an understanding of precisely what this operation is. Here is how President Trump defended a decision that many see as abandoning the kurds. The kurds are fighting for their land, just so you understand. Theyre fighting for their land. Reporter mr. President , the kurds helped the u. S. Defeat isis and by allowing this offensive is it going to be more difficult in future times of need to develop alliances . No, it wont be. It wont be at all. Alliances are very easy. But, you know, our alliances have taken advantage of us. If you take a look at how much money we spend on nato and how much countries from europe, who are a bigger beneficiary than we are, okay, theyre there and were here, many miles away. Our alliances in many cases have taken tremendous advantage of us. If you look at nato, i got them to pay 100 billion more. Out of the 28 countries, 20 of them are delinquent. You know what delinquent means . It is an old real estate term. Hes delinquent with his rent. Theyre delinquent with their payment. They owe us a tremendous amount of money and they never pay us back. They owe us hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars. So, no, i dont look at it that way. My god. You know, willie, with such foolishness there you could look at certain times at mark meadows face in the background and look at the humiliation he felt for being there with the president. Of course, hell have to deny that if he is asked today, but he was feeling humiliation for being there when the president was saying this alliances were easy. Mark meadows doesnt think what the kurds did was easy. Mark meadows doesnt think that the kurds fighting to defeat isis was easy, sacrificing thousands of their lives, having their families blown to pieces to defeat isis. He said that the kurds werent at normandy. It is such a foolish, idiotic statement that i know mark meadows and others have to be ashamed this morning to be affiliated with donald trump. They wont say it publicly, but they are. The president , again, saying things there that just show he is unfit to be americas commander in chief. Well, mark meadows will be in that snapshot of history yesterday and he will be in many others. He will have to live with that. But when you listen to the president say that the kurds werent there for us storming the beaches of normandy, your first instinct is to laugh at the absurdity of the comment until you get to how deadly steerous th ste serious that
