Crowd size yet again with congressional leaders. It was clear this was still on his mind. And the handover. Trumps businesses now officially managed by his sons but is it enough . And the collapse. The governor of minnesota fainting while delivering his state of the state address. But despite that nobody wants to see that. We have an update on his condition this morning but well begin today with President Trump bringing Business Leaders back together for the second time in two days. This time the heads of the big three automakers sitting down for a breakfast meeting. And at 10 00 a. M. The focus shifts to capitol hill. Hhs nominee tom price sits down for an official hearing while at least five other nominees get an official vote and at 1 30, press Secretary Sean Spicer takes his latest turn before the media and we have the best team watching all of it. I want to start with Kristen Welker at the white house. Talk about the meeting with automakers. For donald trump to have day one, day two talking business and manufacturing hes sticking to his campaign promise, he wants to bring jobs back. He is, steph. I was just talking to a Senior Administration official who said the focus today is going to be jobs, jobs, jobs, again, as you point out yesterday, that was one of his key focuses as well. He talked a lot about trade yesterday but today drilling down on the Auto Industry and, of course, we have seen him already take aim at automakers for outsourcing jobs overseas. Is remember this tweet General Motors is sending mexican made model of chevy cruz. Make in usa or pay big border tax. In the wake of that we learned that gm was going to preserve more than a thousand jobs here. They say a plan well in the works before that tweet went out but it underscores, steph, that this is the way hes going to take on these types of companies. Hes going to meet them face to face, head on, tweet at them, invite them here to the white house, this handson approach, the question is to what extent does it promote real job growth . You have economists who say in order to create more jobs you have to tackle policy. He talked about that yesterday as well when he talked about decreasing regulations, lowering taxes so that will be at the fore here again at the white house when he sits down with automakers a short time from now, steph. Kristen, i want to bring you back in a second because we need to talk about Something Else donald trump has been doing and it starts with an l and it ends with an e. Short word. But first i want to bring in nikon necessa nikon fckock confessore, and th of a number of great books including why wall street matters. Gentlemen, welcome. Bill, i want to start with you. From a business perspective, donald trump started off strong. He brought in 10 manufacturing ceos, big ones, met with Union Leaders, hes bringing back mark fields, talking autos. When are we going to get the detail details . From a photo opportunity and a soundbite detail it sounds great, when do we get down to business . Well, steph, on the one hand its to his credit that hes meeting with these leaders and ceos and doing what he said he was going to do. Its a bit of a bullying approach. No ceo if you get to be the ceo of gm or ford you got there by hard work over a long period of time, you consider yourself a leader, too, and you dont like to be bullied by another leader and that is what trump is doing. He is bullying these guys into doing what he wants them do. But i spoke to people in the room yesterday who, yes, within 24 hours donald trump called and said show up at 9 00 a. M. Maybe they dont like to be called like that but they are coming off of eight years where people in the room said he sat down and talked to us in the roosevelt room, brought us into the oval office and said lets sit down, i want to cut your taxes and help you do big things and theyre coming off in Elizabeth Warren world where they felt like they were living in a regulatory overhang that was heavy so yes he might be bullying them in there but its not like theyre coming from nirvana. Its a very different approach than what happened with even with obama who obviously talked to ceos all the time but youre not getting blamed for everything like Elizabeth Warren did. On the other hand, if youre a ceo it takes a long time to make a decision about whether to build a plant in mexico or overseas or what and to be told you cant put the plant there because he doesnt want you to and he wants you to bring jobs back, that up sets your shareholders and theres only so much of that a ceo will take. Its fine now, were at the beginning with photoops, everybodys trying to be good to each other but at some point there will be a turn. From a man who has sold a number of goods here and not made them in the United States, nick, i want to talk about one thing donald trump hasnt said, especially as it relates to manufacturing and the fact that we have automakers here. One word we havent heard out of his mouth, innovation. Its all well and good the idea to bring jobs back but the main spend for manufacturers in the last ten years has been on innovation and automation, donald trump might want to bring things back to the good old days but living in the gold world we do, if you dont embrace innovation, the train will leave the station without you. The biggest killer of jobs in the industrial midwest is automation not trade you cant reverse that trend. But he has to somehow get out there and show hes doing something immediately for his voters, his base in those states so whats fascinating about this move is industrial policy is hard, a jobs bill is hard but a meeting with ceos to browbeat them and make commitments is easier than that which is why hes doing it right now. Its a fast deliverable for his voters. Fast deliverable for the voters but then you have to deliver. I want to bring back kristen welk welker. Thats not all donald trump did wemplt found out a meeting with congressional leaders trump wasnt just trying to run the country he is still litigating the election from two months ago, a point that truly blows my mind. Kristen, what is going on here . This is going to be a big talker throughout the day here steph on both sides of pennsylvania avenue. No doubt about that. According to our capitol hill sources, some of those lawmakers in the room say the president spent the first ten minutes of this bipartisan bicameral meeting with lawmakers relitigating the election saying he lost the popular vote, three to five million votes he thinks because of undocumented immigrants, folks who shouldnt be voting. That was how he started his meeting with lawmakers. That raised some eyebrows wondering why he is going back discussing this still days after hes already been sworn in, hes in the white house, hes already started his administration. Of course its something that rankles democrats so i suspect this is going to be another hot topic when we have the briefing with press Secretary Sean Spicer. It will be his second official briefing and i know the president will probably get a few questions today from reporters so well see if they ask him about this. Bottom line, this is something he seems to not be able to let go of, at least in the early days of his administration and some supporters saying its time to let it go. Move on, this is a widely bebunked claim. Stop repeating it. Jeff . It rankles democrats, koun foco independents. Nick, the New York Times led day four by calling the president of the United States by saying he told a lie. Now he didnt need to do that. He could have walked off of yesterday as a win. He didnt just meet with manufacturing ceos, he then met with Union Leaders. One leader walked out and said that was a good meeting. He made Bernie Sanders and Chuck Schumer and nancy pelosi happy with tpp. The New York Times wouldnt have had a choice, they wouldnt have had a choice. They would have said guess what . Good day for donald but he gave them a clear and unknows opening. Why is this happening . I think it goes to his personality and his world view. Right now reality and his sense of himself are colliding, he won the presidency but hes coming in office as the first president in polling history under 50 . He did not win the popular vote. He was protested en masse over the weekend and it gnaws at him that if his brand is winning and his brand is success to have this opposition. So weve seen instead of reaching out and having messages of inclusion he is doubling down and saying nobody, i won. Its a real insight into his personality. Bill, there are many inspects or people who did or didnt vote who are willing to stayay ill n the page and accept you as my president but hes not allowing them with continuing this behavior. Others are saying listen, just accept it, this is his personality are we to ten as the American People that lies are told or that untruths happen or alternative truths by press secretaries or unforced errors by the president . Its the job of the media and the American People to call out an individual if hes lying, especially when hes president of the United States. These are selfinflicted wounds. He had a pretty good day yesterday. He could have snatched victory from the jaws of defeat what does he do . Selfinflicted wounds, self selfinflicted wounds, hes got to stop. I know the donald a little bit. Hes capable of these things. Beyond it, he has to have a thicker skin and move on. If he plays it right he can split labor leaders from the democrats quickly, if he plays it right he can be a real problem for them, he can put that party in half but hell nail that and it will bring them back together if he doesnt play it right. And youll soon see Approval Ratings in the 20s. Forget the 40s, 40s will look great. Plus when you take 22 Million People off of health care they were getting and many of them are people who voted for you, they wont like that very much. Or if his policies start to work, if he puts people back to work will this stuff become background noise . Stephanie, you have to remember, the Unemployment Rate is 4. 7 now. That is quite a gift he got from president obama. Its also a bit of a curse. How do you improve on that . Hes talking a big game. Its not as easy. Capital decisions take time to decide what toe do. You cant snap your fingers and say okay, ill hire 50,000 more people because the president of the United States asked me to do it. Fair point, we have a lot to cover. Next, the Trump Companies have been handed over to Donald Trumps sons to run but the president still owns the company. Is it enough . And well speak to one of those labor leaders who met with trump yesterday. What he says the president promised. But next, a republican congressman who hasnt always supported trump joins us to weigh in. And before we go, on saturday millions of people marched in support of women but jimmy kimmel knew where the statement was made, the signs. Just watch this. I loved it. The biggest protest, it had the hands down funniest signs of any protest ever. Heres some of my favorites. These are real signs. We shall overcomb. Usually not a sign guy but geez. This march is terrific, we have the best marches. Trump skis in jeans. This sign isnt very good but neither is our president. Are you getting this . These numbers are off the charts. Sir whats the status . Theres a meteor hurtling towards earth. How long until impact . Less than a minute. What do you want to do, sir . Listen carefully. If we all switch to geico we could save 15 or more on Car Insurance. I like the sound of that. Geico. Because saving fifteen percent or more on Car Insurance is always a great answer. Wheyou wantve somto protect it. E, at legalzoom, our network of attorneys can help you every step of the way. With an estate plan including wills or a living trust that grows along with you and your family. Legalzoom. Legal help is here. I believe that we have to be honest with the American People. I think sometimes we can disagree with the facts. There are certain things we may mis we may not fully understand when we come out but our intention is never to lie to you. That of course was White House Press secretary monday afternoon promising truth to the American People but a few hours later President Trump seemed to once again verge into murky waters, repeating unfounded and widely bedunked claims about undocumented immigrants voting in the election, claims the New York Times describe as a flat out lie. I want to bring in Illinois Republican adam king singer. Congressman, the rest of the day seemed to go very well, then this. What is the impact of the president not only dwelling on the election but repeating claim wes know have been debunked. Obviously i think unnecessary is the best way to say it. I thought he had a great day with discussion about his vision and jobs a how to bring voice to people who have felt forgotten for a long time and then to repeat this claim. Its like taking what is good messaging and derailing it with bad. You saw that at the beginning of the inauguration with the fight over crowd size. Of course there wont be as big a crowd size. In 2008 barack obama was the first africanamerican president and also everybody that lives within metro ridership tend to vote democrat in this area so it was an unnecessary fight. I would recommend obviously focus on your message and maybe its difficult. I remember after i got elected to congress it takes time to understand the difference between kind of being in candidate mode and congressman mode. I hope thats the situation the president is running into now where hes trying to get his sea legs under him. He has great ideas but this derails that. Lets go from ideas to action. Youre on the house energy and commerce committee. I want to ask you about President Trumps decision to pull out officially from the transpacific partnership, tpp. Now, it wasnt moving forward whether it was Hillary Clinton or donald trump. John mccain called trumps decision a serious mistake. Im not surprised by it, nobody is. Hillary clinton said she would do the same thing i think we have to retalk about or go back to discussing the basics of trade. 25 of the worlds goods are manufactured in the United States and we only have 5 of the population. We have to export, this is how you do it. I have a very manufacturing intensive district. Its one thing to go rid of tpp, fine, he promised he would. Hopefully he enters bilateral negotiations with these countries to ensure we have good Market Access because thats the way those that live in the 16th district of illinois will export it to other countries. One thing donald trump knows how to do is negotiate. The guy is the art of the deal guy but when he talks nafta he says were either going to restructure but if america doesnt get a good deal well pull out. This isnt business where you can say im in the deal, im out of the deal. Are you concerned about the consequences . You pull out of Something Like nafta, the waterfall affect could be massively damaging, devastating, even. You look at our biggest trading partners, canada and mexico are among the top if not the two top. Its one thing to get three leaders a together and say how can we make this better for the American People and in the same time maybe canada and mexico have issues they want to renegotiate. You come out with a better package. This is 20 something years old. But when you threaten triggering the mechanism saying were done with nafta, you have to potential of starting a trade war and the idea of textile manufacturers that move to mexico and have since probably moved to asia that because of this theyre going to reshore back to if United States is not going to happen if you pull out of the deal. We have a very intense and thriving and growing manufacturing sector, we need to nurture that, theres way to do it. I want to go from optimism to realism. You are an Ardent Supporter of mike pompeo. When President Trump spoke at the cia on saturday he said im going to back you guys so much, youll want know back off. Do you believe given all thats been said that President Trump will be backing mike pompeo 100 . I certainly hope so. Obviously ive been disappointed with the back and forth between the Intelligence Community and the new president in the past. I hope that changes. The president has to trust his intelligence agencies and the intelligence agencies have to know they can give the president unfiltered the vice even if he doesnt like it. One of my concerns is Going Forward people are tending to only like facts that come port to their world view so i think when it comes to the intelligence agencies and news in general people need to see facts as facts and not only a fact if its something they agree with. Mike pompeo is a great guy. Sat next to him many years on the committee. Hopefully they have a great relationship for the sake of the American People not just the future of politics. Congressman, thanks so much for joining me. Before we take a break, i have to take you back to Kristen Welker. We have bre
