eastern shore, so there are some thin clouds and breaks in the skies. there are a few sprinkles falling in montgomery county. here we are in baltimore and there's pimlico. let's take a look at the temperatures, because that's the other element of the forecast today. we're basically dry over the city. 64 is the temperature at pimlico. rain in the forecast today. maybe i should say a sprinkle or shower not rain. other temperatures at edge wooveed and 65, cockeysville is up to 63 and up west columbia 64. downtown it's almost 70 degrees. the broader picture of what's going on, more shower activity. here's baltimore. the rains are south and the strongest are off norfolk right now and the virginia beaches. but a lot of clouds around the area. there's a front stalled in virginia around western maryland right now. that's boundary. we can also see high pressure over new england pulling moisture off the atlantic ocean. so the combination of those things giving us fits as far as obscuring the sun. in the plains states that's where all the big storms are going to occur today. i think that will be the newsmaker weather-wise later today. here, not bad. clouds kind of holding temperatures down a little bit. we'll see mostly cloudy skies. maybe a spotty shower. >> the girls pushed me to put some element of sun in. so but also these spotty little showers or sprinkles could little bit of thinning in the cloud coffer. so some of that daytime heating may cause a shower to pop up as we go into the afternoon. we have hardly seen a raindrop out here today so things have been picture-perfect. i even saw a rainbow right over the grandstand so maybe that signifies something. you guys have to figure whute that means, some are saying it means a triple crown winner. as we go into the afternoon, 70 degrees. with all the cloud cover and bit of a breeze it feels chilly. so i have the nylons on. i went old-school with that. and i went roof top and it was pretty breezy up a lot of one of a kind pieces, too. >> and it's often you're going to be out there in the infield selling them. >> yes. so if someone doesn't have a hat you can get one there. >> and big hats are the way to go? >> yes. you want to go big. once you get there you realize even's is big so you don't feel like you're over-the-top the same way you would in another venue. >> like at home or in the car but this hat is gorgeous. tell me about this one. >> this is the quintessential racing hat. it's wide, feminine, has a bright color on it. and for preakness especially color blocking is big. or darker colors like these colors. you know, bold. >> yes. >> like with your dress which is navy blue, you could wear this hat with that. >> yes. you don't have to blend or match. 's more interesting and more avon guard if you just let it blend together and trust yourself. >> see the tan and tangerine and salmon color then we can go with some of the traditional yellows. >> this is the smaller brim nas ferret, because you can really ee and be seen and no mess where it's just amazing. >> and then the color blocking and this is preakness colors. >> absolutely, the black and the regarding orb. >> well, i think orb has an incredible chance to win, which is exciting, because he could twin triple crown. flat the favorite then you may only win two cents. so maybe bet on another horse as well. >> take charge is a dark horse, someone you may not be hearing a lot but has a chance. and take charge is my dark horse. he did well in the derby despite where he actually finished. he made a very nice eighth lengths pick-up in the race and i think is in a good condition. i expect him to be coming off the pace and flying at the end. >> how about departmenting? >> hasn't run this distance before. has not run this weight before. so i think he will be coming in at the end but i don't know if he will be right there. but it's a horserace, so it's hard to say what's going to happen. >> then my favorite. my loot which has the female jockey. >> yes. yet another one of the closers. i was a little bit disappointed with my loot's performance in the derby. my loot closed really well and was only a few lengths off the leaders. didn't fire. didn't have a heavy opportunity and take it. so we'll see i'm just not feeling comfortable there. >> is preakness your christmas? >> well, i get to spend the morning with you so how could it be like anything else? >> good answer! >> well, i'm in public relations. >> enjoy the day and stay with us for more preakness coverage coming up team coverage. >> ava marie and sarah sampson. good morning ava. >> good morning. i lost the card again i'm done with it. it's already warming up. we're starting to see even more sun peaking out -- peeking out of the from behind the clouds. a wlot of clouds still expected throughout the day and maybe even a shower, especially as that front is hanging down to our south. that's the front we have been tracking all morning. but it's not a washout of a pattern. overall it should be dry throughout the day but watch out for a light sprinkle in the afternoon but by the that afternoon 70 degrees will feel a little warmer. people are really starting to filter into the infield and in the grands. -- in the grandstands. we all got wanded and had our bagsal checked coming in, so that's something to keep in mind umbrellas are not allowed so even though we do have a chance for rain do not bring your umbrella, just bring a light jacket. >> now we'll head back to you girls. love the hat. >> it's down a lot. in the past couple of hours. when we first got out here around 5:00 a.m. the horses at emand y up and then the trainers were taking them out for sort of a gentle walk. they had a chance to graze. a few of them for about 307 minutes. now a lot of them are supreme court of hunkered back down. >> now he does have ties mad mother's day and a lot of people here locally are saying they would like to she him twin race and see the triple crown. we talked to many about the chance for rain and whether he thought that would impact orb's race. >> it shouldn't. he won a dishy -- derby in the slop. so it's fair for everybody. if it affects everybody, it does but i don't think it will affect his performance. >> and of course we have not had a triple crown winner since 1978 so a lot of people here would really like see that happen. now, i want to send you up to captain roy taylor who has a look at how things are looking from above. >> hi there. >> we are at 1700 feet looking over top of pimlico. we can tell you anybody working their way towards the track as far as going through security ou may have one or two minutes ait because it's -- advisor of some different traffic patterns on park heights and northern pea. northern parkway. plenty of spots still left in front of the stands. as far as both stages here we're seeing people stake out their locations in front of the colors to the south is where the heavier cloud coverage is. in the northeast corner of the state there's thin clouds and sun is actually bleeding through. we're seeing little pokes of sun here and there. sprinkle in carroll county and a few south of washington and annapolis at this stage of the game. and everything is moving to the east so in baltimore we're kind of on the north edge of whatever is occurring out there. let's take a look at temperatures around town right now. the clouds moved last night. kept the temperatures from dropping too much but then also prevented us from heating up too much during the day. this mix calls for mostly clouds, some sun. east winds at 8 miles an hour. at the airport, 66, annapolis 65. out at colombia 64 degrees. the general satellite and radar imagery shows the bulk of the rain to the south of us with the heavier rain in norfolk, virginia then there's this front out in virginia. this front combined with the high pressure, the front is kind of the trigger for the potential for rains. we have this chance for rain today. it's not a very big chance, but it's there. the biggest storms today are going to be out in the plains states. not a lot going on right now but it could be the newsmaker as far as severe swth concned. quiet day. mostly clouds. there will be some breaks and spotty showers. high temperatures 67-72, considerably warmer than yesterday's low 80's. here's the seven-day forecast. again, around 70 today and much the same tomorrow except more clouds tomorrow and a higher chance of rain. even higher chance on monday and we'll throw thunderstorms in the mix there or at least threat of it. then temperatures go into the 80's and we could see a few isolated storms out there. but now we want to put our focus back on the track and ava, who is your guest this morning? >> i am here with mike isabella and the chef of the infield. you are feeding a lot of people today. you have been featured on "top chef" and you're and it's just going to be a ton of food. first time they are bringing in a guest chef to do foot. to do the food, so i'm excited and i hope they like it. >> tell us abou
