He didnt just say that we underestimated isil. He said we overestimated the ability and the will of our allies, the iraqi army, to fight. Thats true. Thats absolutely true. Reporter its a major intelligence failure. Islamic radicals were expanding in syria and iraq for two years. They bragged about their growing strength online. Foreign journalists often reported that foreign fighters were streaming into syria. We interviewed them as they went in. The rise of extremism in syria and iraq was no secret. Now the president said america is leading the fight against the radicals. America leads. We we are the indispensable nation. We have capacity no one else has. Our military is the best in the history of the world. And when trouble comes up anywhere in the world, they dont call beijing. They dont call moscow. They call us. Reporter so the u. S. Is now leading an International Coalition against isis and likely will be for years. Matt . Richard engel in turkey. There will be a lot of fallout from that admission over the coming days and weeks. The question, could those symptoms be linked to that dangerous outbreak that expanded from ten states two weeks ago to now 40 and washington, d. C. . Hallie jackson is in aurora, colorado. Good morning. Reporter good morning, tamron. The cdc is concerned because of this cluster of kids in colorado, so many kids dealing with these symptoms at the same time in the same place. Nine children have been treated at this hospital for weak or paralyzed arms or legs and were learning now there may be a tenth child suffering from this at a different colorado hospital. At this denver playground, the kids, all smiles. Some parents on edge. It actually terrifies me, having three kids and one who has severe asthma. A common cold is no longer a common cold. Reporter nearby, the hospital where doctors say nine children, all with respiratory illness, show symptoms similar to polio. At least four of those kids test ed positive for entro virus 68. It typically acts like a bad cold and can make it hard to breathe. It has been confirmed in 277 people, mostly children, across 40 states, plus d. C. It is a bit of a mystery right now. Just like any other mystery, we have some clues. Reporter dr. Larry wilkes says the nine children in colorado are uptodate on polio vaccinations. Still, the cdc and others are trying to figure out if theres some link of enterovirus 68, a similar virus hit in 2012. He had trouble breathing before his left leg stopped working. He was diagnosed with poliolike syndrome. I had to take a breath. It was the hardest thing that i think ive heard. Reporter she says she understands what the families in colorado are going through. My whole purpose is to let these families know, theres hope. Reporter hope this medical mystery may be solved soon. The cdc is asking doctors nationwide to report seeing similar clusters of kids with these symptoms across the country. Six of the nine children treated here have been discharged. No deaths from enterovirus 68 according to the cdc. The agency is doing some tests after a toddler in new jersey died after a respiratory illness. The real message to parents from doctors here, dont be alarmed. Just be aware. Theres new questions this morning about the secret service and its ability to protect the president. A searing report in the Washington Post claims the agency grossly mishandled the shooting that occurred at the white house in 2011. Kristen welker has more on that. Kristen, good morning to you. Reporter matt, good morning to you. The president and first lady were infouriated by the way the secret service handled that 2011 shooting, according to the Washington Post. This all comes as the agency is facing an unprecedented Security Breach when a man jumped the fence at the white house and opened the unlocked front door. With the secret service under scrutiny for this fencejumping intruder, new revelations about gunshots fired into the executive mansion three years ago. Reporter this is where investigators believe the shots came from. Reporter the Washington Post reports back in november of 2011, oscar ramiroortega parked nearly a mile away, fired shots into the white house. Stand down. Disregard. Its just a construction noise. Reporter it took four days for the agency to realize the white house had been hit seven times. The discovery came only after a housekeeper found broken glass on the truman balcony. There appears to be a bullet lodged in a windowsill and certainly a bullet hole in one of the Central Glass windows. That is, again, right outside the familys living room. Reporter sasha was home at the time with her grandmother. The president and first lady were traveling and didnt find out for several days. It was an usher who told the first lady, assuming she already knew. Aides have described the president and she as fuming. Reporter an investigation was launched immediately, other Law Enforcement agencies were notified. Hernandez was arrested and is now serving time in jail. I know the secret service is on top of this and will take every necessary step. Reporter concern on capital hill. I have questions about the secret service. Theyve had far too many problems. This is not something thats acceptable. Reporter now the secret service director, julia piercen, will answer some of those tough questions when she answers questions on capitol hill tomorrow. They have enhanced security and surveillance after both that 2011 shooting and again after the most recent Security Breach. One more point, that shooter, hernandez, is serving 25 years on terrorism and weaponsrelated offenses. Matt, now back to you. Kristen, thank you very much. Former secret Service Agent who served on president obamas personal detail. She was assigned to the white house residence on the day of the shooting. Nice to see you, good morning. Good to see you. Good morning. Were you aware a Major Incident had occurred . No. I didnt have any personal experience on that day with the incident as we rotate shifts and whatnot. There was that delay in which the shots were found. I think thats really what the consensus is here, this concern. Why does it take such a significant amount of time to find Something Like this out . When you think about what went on, five secret Service Officers on the white house grounds thought they heard gunshots. People actually witnessed the gunman shooting in the direction of the white house. A woman in a taxi tweeted about it. Firearm and nine shell casings were found that day and same night in a crashed car and two secret Service Agents were on the scene of that crash and yet it was a housekeeper, four days later who actually sounds the alarm. How does that happen . Complacency. Youre there, day after day. Day after day, nothing happens. It took place on constitution avenue. Its the inability to connect those dots. In addition to that, its also failure in the chain of command, when you have supervisors not really listening to the people undernea underneath. When you say complacency, when you get used to nothing ever happening, you fail to connect those dots properly when something does happen. When youre being there and theres not an incident thats actually happening. A lot of that job is waiting for the threat to come. So you have that combined with the fact that these shots were taken at a significant distance as well. How do you deal with complacency . When you add this to the prostitutes in columbia and the guy who climbs the fence and gets through the front door with a knife, how do you combine that with complacency. At end of the day its management style. This is where you have to stop investigating you have to investigate the incident itself but you also have to look inward and saying what are we doing collectively as a whole . That starts where, with leadership, with management. Why are we failing . Does leadership need to change . It needs to broaden its mind, bring in new perspective. Its kind of done its thing for a significant amount of time and its worked up until now. This is when you have to change with the times, be progressive, prevent stuff like this from happening. Evypompouras, thank you for your opinion. Thank you. George clooney finally tied the knot, attended by some of the biggest names in movie, music and fashion. The celebration is not over yet. Keir simmons, good morning. Reporter nervous moments. The couple have left their hotel. They are on their way here. More police, Italian Police have just turned up. So, expecting them any second, perhaps. They need to be here. Because in the building behind me, theyre going to sign the legal documents that will make them, for real, mr. And mrs. Clooney. But through the weekend they have had wedding celebrations that the brides father described as grand, but simple. Another way of putting it . Simply stunning. George clooney with his new wife wearing, yes, a wedding ring. Proof that he has finally made that lifelong commitment after decades as a committed bachelor. The bride, a british lebanese lawyer, amal alamuddin, is said to have worn a Wedding Dress by the same designer as kate middleton. They married in venice, traveling in a boat called amore, italian for love. One vessel seeming close to capsizing. He wore a tuxedo for the ceremony saturday in front of 150 guests, including matt damon, cindy crawford, bono and bill murray. While crowding on to every canal, bank and bridge, thousands of well wishers. This is not a private place to get married. Its not only not private, its probably the least private place you could choose to get married if youre a celebrity. Reports say wedding in a sevenstar Hotel Included Classical Music from a 12piece String Orchestra and was followed by a fivecourse meal, lobster and wild mushroom. Despite the excitement we enjoyed seeing the paparazzi as much as anything. Reporter it claims that the couple requested no photographs. Capturing the moment, this eternal bachelor says i do. And theyre expected any moment now to come around that corner and head to this official office to sign those papers. She, of course, is an accomplished lawyer. But she will not have experienced the attention that she is getting like this and that she will now have for the rest of her married life. Shell need all of that courtroom poise, tamron, to deal with this in her married life ahead. And poised she is. Its interesting how George Clooney has been so private, his life regarding dating and now hes like, here it is, the woman i love. Take it.
