Breaking news on manhattans east side. A pane of glass fell from a hotel hitting a person on the sidewalk. Valerie castro has more. Reporter maurice, we are here on 51st just east of lexington and the sidewalk below from where that glass fell is actually still closed right now. Its across the street. You can see where that section of glass fell from, its about 25 to 30 feet off the ground. Within the last hour, a worker was sweeping up the broken glass from the sidewalk. We know one person was hurt as they walked by and the glass fell. This happened around 3 30 this afternoon. Witnesses say the person was transported to the hospital with a cut on his face. They say it was a slash across the nose. They were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The Fire Department responded and called for the department of buildings to investigate exactly how that piece of glass worked its way loose. A shooting at a bus station in virginia, several people were shot. A state trooper is dead. Cbs 2s dave carlin live in our newsroom with more on this. Dave. Reporter maurice, at least 6 people were shot including Virginia State troopers. It was just before 3 p. M. This afternoon when a shooter opened fire at richmond, virginias Greyhound Bus station. The public is still being kept back from the scene, which you are looking at right now. It is across the street from richmonds Minor League Baseball stadium. Police say the shooter fired fire. Police sources in richmond tell our cbs affiliate the shooter and one of the troopers is dead. Police are not releasing the name of the suspect and any possible motive. We are also awaiting word on the conditions of those injured. At least two are in critical condition. And when we get more information, well make sure to get it to you. Live in the newsroom, dave we do have a commuter alert. A disabled amtrak train causing problems on the lirr. The train is stuck outside one of the east river tunnels and a rescue train is on its way. But the lirr says to expect cancellations and also delays. Governor christie says there will be no fare hike for nj transit commuters this year. Fares did go up nine percent last year because of a budget shortfall. This year they face a projected 57 million budget gap but the governor says the railroad will have to find another way to close it. Christie says a deal reached with the Union Rail Workers will not affect fares until at least next year. Thousands of airport workers across the country walked off the job today at eight major airports including newark, laguardia and kennedy. Reporter hundreds of airplane cabin cleaners at sweeps on planes walked off the job and protested today. These employees of United Airlines subcontractor prime flight aviation are commanding a salary hike, 15 an hour up from 10. They also want safer working conditions. [ yelling ] reporter the same goes for these cabin cleaners at jfk airport who went on strike, too. The crews work for three subcontractors. They also walked out at laguardia. All of these workers search for hazards on the aircraft including hypodermic needles and explosives. We have been exposed to working in darkness to hypodermic needles, to syringes, to needles. Reporter when youre cleaning the seats. Wheel we are cleaning the seats, yes. No protective gear, nothing. No gloves. Reporter this is one of those workers. He says he is not given enough time or proper training to do a thorough inspection. The publics lives are at risk. Reporter when we told passengers about these claims its not good.
