Doug right now confusion in maynard over a vital resource. Residents are being told theres a high level of some chemicals in the water supply, but town leaders say its not an urgent explains why residents are concerned. The Drinking Water in maynard is safe to drink. Pam maynard town leaders say t. T. H. M. s were detected in one of four water samples in december. Theyre working with the state. We got that information sometime in january. We have 90 days to come up with a remediation plan. Pam tuesday this week the state said the town had ten days to notify residents. They posted a message on the maynard website friday and sent notices which should arrive this week. Were very upset. Pam nate markey and his wife laura, who are expecting their baby in days, saw a link to the towns message on facebook. It states pregnant women, infants, and women of childbearing age may be more at risk to the effects of t. T. H. M. s over time. Theres been correlations to Bladder Cancer over longterm consumption of water that has elevated t. T. H. M. s, miscarriage in the first trimester, some birth defects. Pam the standard for t. T. H. M. Is 80 parts ber billion. In maynard it was 89. In other parts of the world, 100. But the couple wishes they knew about it earlier when the elevated levels were first detected. My wife is due on monday so theres not a lot that we can do that changes how it affects us. We have to hope for the best, and hopefully there wont be any impact. Doug and an outbreak of the mumps hits a local college campus. The warning and the potentially lucky break for students. Danielle mild air on the way in but along with it a chance of ill have a timeline on the karen to your health this morning. Frank is back with the new medical concerns on a local college campus. Frank School Officials are warning students of a mumps in manchester, New Hampshire. There are two confirmed cases and three pending. All of them are players on the mens hockey team. Symptoms of the virus include fever, severe headache, sore throat, and vomiting. While nearly all College Students are vaccinated for mumps, the vaccine is only 88 percent effective so its still possible to get sick. Any future cases are expected to be mild, but doctors want to be proactive to protect those who are more vulnerable on campus. We do want to prevent this from spreading to other individuals who may not being totally immune, people who may not be able to get the vaccine. That includes pregnant women or people compromised which can result in more serious infection. Saint as students are now off campus for spring break. Typically the mumps incubation is 25 days, so the school is in that window now which does help lower the risk factor. Karen thanks, frank. For anyone on spring break, danielle and doug are here right now with a look at the weather. Doug, you go over and hang out with danielle. Will you . Danielle and ive got this on. It feels like spring break because its warm. Doug isnt it nice. Danielle im enjoying it. We are in the 50s or going to the 50s, not there yet. We will be for this afternoon. I do want to talk about something though. With the mild air comes the chances for some rain. The first chances actually coming tomorrow late morning into early afternoon. Then again late night on tuesday. This will become steady, heavy rain on wednesday. Widespread too so everybody is impacted. And it could even end as some light snow especially the farther north and west you are. More on that chance a little bit. But first that rain for tomorrow morning coming from this cold front. This area of low pressure you see right now. We already have some snow showers ongoing in parts of northern vermont. Closer to southern new england, just some clouds out there today but were going to see these clouds break apart later this that should lead to more sunshine by, say, 2 00 or 3 00. But a cloudy start out there over boston. 38 degrees. The wind out of the south and west at 11 00 so you see that camera shaking just a bit. If youre stepping outside right now, it feels more like 30 degrees. We have wind gusts in excess of about 20 in beverly to about 23 miles an hour in hyannis so pretty strong winds out there today. The temperatures though will warm up into the low 50ings in worcester and orange. Low to even mid 50s along parts of Merrimack Valley and the north shore. Boston 52. 52 in taunton. In the upper 40s on the cape. Then tonight eighths mild night. We only drop back into the 30s and 40s. Well have a partly cloudy sky and tomorrow as that frontal system comes through, we are leaving in a chance for some rain. It will be hit or miss though. Not everyone is going to see it. Notice we stay in the 50s closer to the coast. The only exception is the interior could stay in the upper will get to you sooner and cool back the temperatures so here we go. 8 00 in the morning. Vermont seeing a couple of showers. By 11 00 though its in Worcester County and metro west, i think. By 1 00 probably boston. By 2 00 or 3 00 exiting the cape and the islands. And then here comes the second cold front. This second cold front is going to bring in a little bit of cooler air but not cold by any means. And then were watching this area of low pressure out to the west. You see this one here. This is going to gather some moisture from the gulf of mexico so as this gets to our area overnight tuesday into wednesday , its going to bring a bit of heavy, steady rain. That will continue pretty much all day wednesday and may turn over at the tail end especially north and west of worcester i think through the berkshires into a little bit of snow. Not looking for anything in terms of accumulation but in terms of rain totals from this one anywhere from about a half an inch to an inch does look likely from this system. And then on friday, this is the big thing. Because not every model is indicating this yet. Its still several days out. There is one of our models that we trust in the wintertime. It is showing the potential for a coastal storm to develop and strengthen and it will be cold enough to support all snow pretty much for our area. This could be accumulating snow starting friday afternoon into saturday morning, the best bet, of course, was the coastal storm would be southeastern mass. Of course, as were still seven days out were going to continue to fine tune that forecast. In the meantime lets just settle in on those 50s. Karen and doug. Doug a good idea. Karen well take it. 8 17. Stories were following right now. Doug three middle school girls in florida are now charged with trying to poison their teacher.
