Milwaukee Police Responded to a possible snowrelated death early this morning. Morning. A 55yearold man collapsed while shoveling snow. And later died at the ho. Hospital. Police got there just before 6 am shoveling is a regular part of life in wisconsin. But sadly we report on a handful of snow shoveling deaths every year. We spoke with doctor amar ambardecker from Aurora Health care. Who says these deaths are often caused by heart attacklifting heavy snow in the cold can be hard on the elderly or people with preexisting conditions. But people 3 3 when its colder outside, your blood vessels constrict, it gets a little harder to the blood flow to the heart so it can exascerbate symptoms that may not have really been there if the temperature was normal normal when youre out shoveling, make sure you go slow, take breaks, and listen to your body. A wrongway drunk driver on her way home from karoke hit a Milwaukee County plow truck early this morning it happened on 894 near 51st street. The Sheriffs Office says 51year old Joann Quesada was going about 55 miles an hour in the wrong direction when she hit the plow. She was found unresponsive. But was taken to shes since been released to the jail. Shes facing owi and recklessly endangering safety charges. 3 a Milwaukee County sherifff deputys car was hit during the peak of the weekend snow storm. Heres a look at the dam. Damage. It happened on i41 near the hampton road exit around 745 yesterday morning. The deputy was taken to the hospital for back pains. But is expected to be alright. The driver who hit the deputy was ticketed. In order to keep the roads safe. Dpw says theyve been working around the clock to drop salt on the streets. And today a new shipment arrived. Salt arrived arrived in the port of milwaukee. It was shipped in from canada to help replenish the citys stockpile after the weekend storm. Its always good to have enough salt we did run out a few years ago. You dont see any trucks here today but tomorrow you can expect abot 500 trucks down here shipping o out. Most of the salt will be used for treating roads. Some of it will be packaged and sold. The port of milwaukee gets in about a million tons of salt each year. 3 sunday morning as the snow piled up. That meant a trip to the tow lot for some who didnt move their cars. Heres cbs 58s julie parise here at bardo towing off w lincoln ave they did upwards of 350 tow jobs this weekend. And counting. Counting. Workers here tell me when the forecast calls for snow, they get excited. They work 24 7 with almost no sleep, but it means big profits for them. One tow driver here told me that business started picking up came, because of a lot calls for dead car batteries. Then once the snow started falling, calls picked up because of accidents along the interstate. While a lot of us in wisconsin could do without the winter weather, for tow truck drivers, this is a great time of year. Year. As soon as it starts snowing, we see money signs. You know, theres always going to be a vehicle on the road. People forget how to drive for the first snowf all, for some reason. A judge decided the two young defendants should be tried seperately. One of them, Morgan Geyser appeared in court this morning. Cbs 58s Kyle Aevermann has the details. Its official both Morgan Geyser and anissa weier will be tried seperatly. This morning morgan gesyer and her attorneys were in court. A competency report was received defendants would be tried separately. As part of this mornings hearing, we heard from former Waukesha County sheriff deputy paul rinkas. He arrested geyser after finding her and wier at the edge of a forestline back in 2014. Rinkas said he read geyser her miranda rights. And she agreed to it. That geyser told him that she was forced to kill her best friend and made references to slenderman. Rinkas said he had never heard of slenderman before that. We also heard testimony from an officer from the Waukesha Police department who arrest. And it was the first time he as well heard of slenderman. Both geyser and weier have pleaded not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect and will be tried as adults. Geyser will be back in court on feb 13th for an oral hearing. In late july sean out into a pond and held the baby under water. Despite witnesses trying to intervene, the child died. Flowers will be sentenced january 25th. Hes facing life in prison. In the past year he emerged from homelessness. With his dignity and a giving nature his dignity and a giving nature intact. Only to be murdered over the weekend. His name was Anthony Sanders and we first him at a Christmas Party last year wher adopted a homeless person for a hotel stay over the holiday. Anthony was the life of the party. After the 10 day recount it turns out donald trump woe that we first thought. The recount added 131 votes to his more than 22thousand vote margin of victory. Today officials wrapped up the recount with a press conferencethey thanked the clerks and volunteers for pulling it off ahead of schedule. In all less than twothousand votes that werent counted on Election Night were added to the total. The vast majority of the changes were due to either writing in the wrong number or some sort of human error. There were virtually no changes that were due to tabulators. There was one situation where theres an outdated machine. Thats another thing that i think we want to think about as we go forward trying to update some of the voting equipment in the state.
