She was taken to froedtert and pronounced dead a few hours later. 31year old nielya nielya owens was also a passenger. Doctors had to amputate part of her left regained consciousness and is breathing with a ventilator. Nat she was hanging out the window, leg and all. according to the criminal complaint, the driver, 24year old trejon price was driving the suv. He allegedly told police at the hospital he had been out at the club drinking with friends and suffered neck and rib fractures in the accident. When Milwaukee Police chief ed flynn changed the departments policy on vehicle pursuits, this is very thing he was trying to avoid. Send us medical, chase and manitoba. Motorcycles down. A motorcycle rider nearly killed. An innocent drivers car, totaled. 50yearold female complaining of chest pain and neck pain. The crash happened in 2012. A year after the new pursuit policy chase if he believes a violent felony has been committed. Speeding is not sufficient cause, and officer kurt kezeske knew that. So the 18year veteran of the force. Lied. 2233, you have the air. in the heat of the chase, he radioed to dispatch. 2233, ive got a motorcycle that tried to ram me. Attempting to ram a squad car would be enough to justify a chase. And according to a report by the milwaukee fire and police commission, story again and again to detectives and supervisors. Theres just one problem it never happened. He made it up. So the Milwaukee Police Department Fired him. Four years later, hes back on patrol. Just not in milwaukee. obviously, you look for areas around your community and eagle happens to be the place. the village of eagle covers little more county. Fewer than 2thousand people call it home. But they pay for their own, local police force. With three fulltime officers and a handful of parttime cops. roll call and they dont often get applicants who come with 18 years of experience. what is the officer pool that we choose from . but when village supervisor mike rice voted to hire kezeske full time earlier this year, he did not know Milwaukee Police had fired him. we all wor fulltime or are retired and we do this parttime. Were not experts at anything. So, we take the word that comes forward from people around us. Rice said he relied upon the recommendation of the 3member Police Committee, chaired by greg hein. Did you know about the background and what had happened in milwaukee . I, you know, its been so long. Id have to go back and look at my records to make sure, you know, that i had all the information. Sure. So, i really dont wanna answer yes or no to that question. Hein says the committee relied on the lesniewski. How do you feel about hiring an officer who lied to investigators . Ive said im not going to get in specifics. Thats a personnel matter. Kezeske is hardly the first fired cop to get hired by another department. The fox6 investigators asked the Wisconsin Department of justice for a list of every Police Officer in the state whos been discharged from duty since 2012 and where they work now. It took the department 42 days to turn over the list. And when they did, every officers name was department argue that releasing officers names might subject them to personal attacks and could have a Chilling Effect on recruitment. But the records they did release show that more than onethird of the officers discharged since 2012 are already back on the job somewhere else. I dont think it shouldve happened. Sharon royston says shes not surprised it happened in eagle. I was never allowed to see any background checks. Village board. 40 of our village budget is going towards the Police Department and i didnt think, and a lot of villagers didnt think, we were getting our moneys worth. It was royston who exposed a secret deal that allowed the last police chief to retire with a twoyear severance package. A highlyunusual deal the village is still paying for, but cant explain why. Because of a confidentiality agreement. Well never know. They are prevented from telling any spearheaded an effort to eliminate the eagle Police Department and have Waukesha County patrol instead. But voters shot it down. That was all before officer kezeske was hired fulltime in may. I think were gonna have to. I dont know what were gonna have to do, to be honest with ya. After the fox 6 investigators started asking questions, the eagle Police Committee met to talk about their hiring practices. But they declined to talk about any officer, in here, because were not in a closed door session. obviously, we didnt do a good job with this. Rice says he never wouldve voted to hire officer kezeske had he known about his background. The biggest thing is the falsifying reports and thats, of course, uh, i think would concern anybody here. But the one man who admits he knew. did you know about the background . I did. You did . And you were ok with that . Doesnt seem to share his concern. After the fox 6 investigators go supervisors voted to release officer kezeske from his duties. He did not return multiple calls for comment. As for the other 446 officers discharged statewide since 2011, the department of justice says they may or may not have done anything wrong. The state doesnt keep track of which officers are discharged for cause. And since the state blacked out all of their names, we have no way to find out how many committed actual misconduct, before being hired investigators. Thanks, bryan. And you will certainly not see me again for any offenses after this. the judge sentenced riedlinger to 30 days in jail and 18 months of probation.
