Music and free haircuts were provided for kids in the neighborhood. We believe there was two groups. The protestors and the opportunists. The protestors were coming out to vent because they were hurt by injustice and their beliefs something was wrong. We have the opportunists that are criminals who mixed themselves in with the protestors investigators were on the scene of several burned out businesses, destroyed in the weekend riots. Agents are combing through the properties. They are working to determine who is responsible for the fires. Despite the fact there were crowds of people involved. Live in sherman park Myra Sanchick fox6 news steph thanks myra. The Waukesha County Sheriffs Department believes the gun with police was stolen from a home in the town of genesee. That theft happened back in march. The Sheriffs Department is working with the department of criminal investigations to trace the gun using its serial number. The sherman park unrest isnt the first time protests in milwaukee have turned violent. Nearly 50 years ago. People were killed and buildings burned during the 1967 riots. Fox6s Ben Handleman joins us live in the newsroom compare . Those riots in 1967 spanned several miles of the city and last around five days. And it wasnt just milwaukee. Similar riots were happening all across the country that summer. Take a look at video we pulled from our archives. Like today. Buildings were set on fire. Businesses were looted. And gunfire rang out. Unlike today. Four people were killed. More than 100 injured. And 15 thousand arrested in 1967. 50 caliber machine guns mounted on the half tracks to keep us out of the street, to enforce curfew. Thats how bad it was. Another point of contrast between the two protests. While the officer involved shooting death of Sylville Smith sparked this most recent unrest. Investigators say the driver of the striking vehicle, a 1999 Cadillac Deville, left the scene, and then abandoned the car about a block away. We do know . According to police, a man was were told the 22yearold victim was shot multiple times. And taken to a hospital. The four men charged in connection with the robberyturned homicide of rebecca wood will head to trial. 32yearold wood was killed july 13th. Woods body was found, shot, in her car near 28th and clarke. Deanthony bradley, william rounds, jeremiah flowers, and anton mukes are charged in connection to woods death last month. According to a criminal complaint, Deanthony Bradley pointed a gun at her head with bradley told police when the victim tried to drive away the gun went off killing her.
